As it was in Rouen...

Title: As It Was in Rouen…
Pairing: Will/Edward
Author: Abeille deVerte
Rating: R – implied sexual relations
Feedback: Yes, please. Greatly appreciated.
Summary: Prince Edward and William reflect on their relationship as they face each other in their last joust.
Author’s Notes: While this takes place directly in the movie, it is still AU, and if that wasn’t immediately obvious, you need to use your brain – all fanfiction is in the Author’s Universe. I am making no money from this, and I claim no ownership of the characters, the actors, or anything that I do not create on my own, and those that I did create would be listed here. Even though I *wish* I owned Edward. And Roland. But that’s for another time and place.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING RELATING TO THIS, OTHER THAN A COPY OF THE MOVIE. I AM NOT MAKING MONEY FROM THIS, AND NEVER WILL BE.

As It Was in Rouen…

It seemed like it had been so long since they had last seen each other. Last night as they lay together had been pure bliss.

Edward sighed. After all the months he’d spent building his personality and reputation as Sir Thomas Colville, he had finally been found out. Unfortunately, it was by the one person he never wanted to know. Now that Count Adhemar knew, it could only mean trouble for his beloved William.

William didn’t know that he knew; Edward had discovered his secret the first time they met. Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein had aroused suspicion from the first, and all it took was another charlatan to see through his disguise. William’s companions tried so very hard not to blow their cover, but in private, they could never keep from using his real name.

Now, it was all lost. His brief reprieve from playing was no longer an option for him. Adhemar, knowing how close he was to William, would waste no time crashing any and all possibility of William forgiving him for his deception.

Sir Ulrich faced his best friend and sometimes lover across the pit. Chaucer was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, trying to figure out what Adhemar was thinking when he forfeited.

There. The flag was over his sigil, and Edward looked ready to throw himself onto his own lance if he didn’t get a fight. He charged, and Edward answered a moment later.

It was over. “Well fought, Sir Ulrich, as it was in Rouen.”

“And you too, Prince Edward.”

“You knew? And still you charged?”

“It’s not in me to give up.”

“No, nor me.” They nodded, and parted ways. William was quickly surrounded by his compatriots, Wat doing his best to strangle him.

Sir Ulrich never saw the tears in his sometimes lover’s eye, nor Adhemar’s angry gaze.

Edward let himself be led away by his faithful squire, who was doing his best to cheer him up.

“Just… stop. I want to get home, now that I can’t joust. Get my things ready, we’ll not be staying for banquet.”

As William never saw his tears, he never saw William’s. “Come on, you lot, we’ve things to do.”
