True Love

Dracula... such a tragic story! I have to admit that, the first time I watched Bram Stroker's Dracula, (the one with Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder), I was not really interested. However, when I watched it for the second time, a year later, I was bewitched by the story and by, I must admit, Gary Oldman's irresistible acting! Most of the time, people think that "Dracula" is only a horror story... and they are wrong. At least, in this movie, it is not the case. It is based on the wonderful love story between Dracula and his beloved, Mina.

I dare say that many parts of this movie are simply poetic; some lines are remarkable and just took my breath away. Dracula's tragic story inspired me this text and this poem. I just put myself in his shoes and imagined what feelings must torture him night and day (please note that I took one sentence directly from the script, the first sentence of the second paragraph... I don't want to be accused of plagiarism! I just "embroidered" aroud it a little). If you have seen the movie, imagine that the text is read when Dracula finds Mina's photo; the young man to whom he talks is Jonathan (Keanu Reeves). The poem is a view in Dracula's bleeding heart. I wish I could read you all this... if you have the soundtrack, listen to track 11 while you read, and try to hear Dracula's so enticing Transylvanian accent!

True Love

Listen, young man, listen... listen to these angels of the night! Listen to their complaint, to their painful tears flying to the moon! Let them teach you all you should know about everlasting love, faithfulness. Let them teach you what loneliness is, when you are condemned to walk, lost, in the darkness, in the cold darkness of your solitude!

Yes... the luckiest man who walks on this Earth is the one who finds true love. The man who can say, when he thinks of his beloved, "When she looks at me, I see the rising sun. Every time she laughs, the stars shine a little brighter. Her breath gives birth to the first soft breeze of the summer. Her voice is the murmur of peace that sleeps in each man's heart. Her curves are the mountains and the valleys of the Earth. Her head moves with the grace of a snowflake dancing with the wind. She blesses the ground she walks on with her step . Her heart always beats in concert with mine and together, we give birth to each wave of the oceans. Her soul, as pure as the moonlight, is the echo of mine. In her hands resides the power to bring me closer to God than any man has ever been. Her arms are my grave, her lips on mine, the last prayer I could say and her hair, the ground where I want to rest, until the end of time."

Everlasting love...
The quest of so many hearts,
The waste of so many tears,
The damnation of so many souls!

I am deprived of this light.
I shiver in an eternal night...
Yet I love this darkness,
This soft velvet,
As black as the stars' shadows,
That caresses every part of my skin.

This is an ardent embrace
And a boisterous dance.
My soul is intoxicated with freedom,
My hands, raised above my head,
Will never touch the sky.
My heart is empty,
Quiet and painless again!
No name to whisper,
No lips to crave for,
No words to hope for,
No comforting warmth to dream of.
Free, free!
And alone.

My place is there, in the night,
In the soft darkness,
Where you do not need to look around for your path;
You just follow what your soul dictates,
As you can listen to it
Now that everything in your head is quiet.
And it is what keeps me alive;
I would stop walking,
If I did not hear all the music of my soul.

It tells me that, one day,
I will see the moonlight with other eyes,
That a laughter will make the stars shine just for me,
That the oceans will move under my command,
That my breath will become life
And that I will walk on blessed ground.
Yes, one day, I will find my grave,
Pray like I have never done before
And find the ground where I will rest in peace,
Until the end of time.
