Prologue
Slam!
Slam had stolen ten years of his life and he wanted it back. He finally succeeded, taking out a few guards and stealing the first ship that he saw. He returned to Planet Deep after leaving that hellhole on Planet Dread. He bought himself a cover by renting a room from a blind woman. He’d be safe because she couldn’t identify him if mercs came hunting for him. He found it easy to take rest during the day and prowl the streets at night. He had become a regular at the local bars. He drowned the loneliness of his existence in alcohol and temporarily cured it with women, who had fallen for the mysterious stranger. There was one in particular whom he had charmed in and out of bed…

It was a beautiful spring day on Planet Deep. Jada sat quietly in the grass and her back rested firmly against the tree she’d placed Jenna’s play pin under. She watched her 7-month-old daughter as she rolled onto her back and began to watch the leaves on the tree blowing in the cool breeze. She was a beautiful baby. Her fair skin was still just as soft as it was the day she’d been born. She had the softest jet-black locks and the biggest set of bright brown eyes Jada had ever seen. She felt so blessed every time she looked at her. Jada was so happy that she had decided to have Jenna instead of terminating the pregnancy as she started to do. She had gotten herself involved with a few men at the time and wasn’t quite sure which had fathered her daughter. She often times thought of herself as foolish for being in love with one man so much that she would sell herself so short to make him jealous. Especially since he never cared anyway.
She was just a fling to him or at least that’s the way he made it seem the day he walked out of her life. All she ever wanted was for him to love her but he had a different plan. He was not from this world but from some place unknown. She’d known this small city like the back of her hand and had never really seen him before in the daylight. But it didn’t matter, he was attractive in any light she was sure. He was always very quiet and kept to himself when he came around, the strong silent type and that turned her on. His body was breath taking. You could tell he was strong and his arms looked like they had been sculpted. Every time he came into the tavern, when she wasn’t slinging whiskey, she would just watch him and wonder how good it would feel to be held in those arms.
As she stared off into space daydreaming, Jada had almost forgotten where she was until she heard Jenna’s bellow. She got up from the grass, went over and scooped her little girl up.
“It must be time for your lunch,” she said.
Once inside the house, she went into the kitchen and placed Jenna in her high chair. She paused for a second to take a long look at her before she moved to the fridge for food. She bit her lip. She stared long and hard at her baby as she did often, trying to figure out if she looked like him. She could never really tell because while he was as fair skinned as Jenna, so was she. He kept his head shaved bald so she never really knew what his hair would look like and his eyes were definitely like nothing she had seen before and Jenna’s were not the same.
