The Force as Gemini
Title: The Force as Gemini
Author: DarkTemplar
Genre: Poem
Notes: An experimental piece that toys with the idea of the Force as two entities divided by Light and Dark. There’s a conversation between the two over a particularly harrowing moment for Vaderkin on Mustafar. The Light side verses are marked with an “L”, The Dark Side with a “D”.
**********************************************
A writhing figure cloaked in fire, raises his head to the smoke filled heavens.
Summoning every ounce of strength left in him, he lets out a roar of pain.
Its echo is matched by splintering rock that reigns down around him.
The sound is so deafening, but like to a clarion call they have heard and come.
Anchored to this fixed point in time and space, something has changed.
They can almost feel as well as hear the pain of that wretched, prolonged cry.
One gasps in sympathy while the other simply sighs in response…
(L)
Oh…He was so beautiful.
His flowing mane of gold; gone.
His long lovely limbs; lopped.
(D)
Oh…He is so beautiful.
Sulphurous yellow those eyes that I adore.
Eyes are the windows after all.
(L)
Yes…And in those eyes, I see his tears.
I would suck up his sorrow, if I could.
Drink in such despair pooled at his lips.
(D)
And yet…The fire as he spits out his hate to the other one.
Oh to be corporeal, so I could lap at the spittle.
Like sweet nectar I would sip it, such wonderful hate.
(L)
No hand to take him by, to lead him away.
Would that I even could touch him like that.
I would not grasp that mechanical abomination, what’s left of him…
(D)
What’s left of him is mine, and besides, what of the flesh at any rate?
His new master will give him new limbs and he will be whole again.
But, I, I will show him what he can be.
(L)
I wanted to show him what he could have been…
(L)
He was so strong.
(D)
He is still strong.
(L)
So much less than he was…
(D)
So much more besides…
(D)
And the other watches him burn, rejoices in his victory.
So much for the light side of compassion…
(L)
No, there is no victory in his heart, just despair.
His heart is broken, his nightmare has just begun.
(D)
Good! He had no right!
(L)
Wrong! He had every right!
(D)
Ha! My side has bested yours.
Look! His new master comes for him.
All will be well and soon.
(L)
But also look to his old master.
He has taken his weapon to give to another for another time.
And judgement will once again be metered out.
(D)
And I suppose we shall come together again as we do now.
Re-unite to witness that judgement, when it happens, if it happens.
After all this one is special.
(L)
Yes, He is our child of the Force.
He is of Us, and like a swirling vortex, things are in motion around him.
Hard to tell how things will fall.
(D)
For now, I have the upper hand.
(L)
Really? So I shall weep then at my loss?
(D)
Yes. As I laugh at my gain.
(L)
Then let it be so.
(D)
You relent then?
(L)
For now…I relent.
And then a shadow comes over him, an apparition?
A hand comes out from ample folds of heavy cloth to touch his burnt forehead.
Everything has changed, but he is alive and he will survive for his new master.
