Chapter1: Safe
Trey had just slipped on his black slicker. Now he was ready. His plan was simple and nothing would alter it: drop Blake off, get Gibb and get the hell out of Springwood. It would have been easier to just have left, but after his dream-no, revelation-he knew he had to save her. Save her before even him.
At that exact moment, Gibb was at Lori’s house, along with Kia. She leaned against the open window, a lit cigarette in her mouth. What she failed to notice was the deformed face that stared at her back. The face hidden behind the hockey mask…
Traffic sped by like the cars were standing still, Trey pushing the car harder, faster. Blake sat next to him, slightly pale from Trey’s insane driving. It didn’t help that now a rain was falling. “Dude, ease up. We’re going to get killed.” Slam! Trey turned onto Elm Street and gunned it for Lori’s, so close now, so close…
Lori had heard the car squealing but didn’t think it was going to stop at her place. She heard car doors opening and slamming hard. Gibb had left to answer it, but before she could, the door flew open and Trey stormed in like he was in running of the bulls. He looked like hell-hair disheveled, eyes wide with fear (?!), jaw clenched tight, fists tighter. He spun around, nearly toppling over, grabbing the front door at the last second.
Gibb grabbed him and had to pull with all her strength to get him in the house, the door shut behind him against the furious storm outside. “What?” she had asked, feeling his body tremble with a fury unlike anything she’d ever felt.
He didn’t answer. He spun around and grabbed the door. “Come on.”
Gibb looked at him, unsure of what was going on. “Trey, what’s wrong.”
He shook his head. “Come with me.”
“Where?”
“I don’t care where we go, but we have to go. Now.”
God he’s acting weirder than ever-and that was saying something. “Trey, slow down and try to explain what’s going on.”
“Fine. As soon as we cross state lines between well anywhere. Just please no questions for now.”
By then Lori and Kia were standing in the front room as well. He nodded at them and turned back to Gibb. “We have to go now.”
The lights flickered. “Why?”
“We are leaving. Now.”
He said in a way that was different from the normal way he talked. Before she could question or argue with him, he scooped her up in his arms, threw a wad of paper at the other girls, and opened the front door. “Will says hi and take everything in those papers seriously” he called over his shoulder, not bothering to see Lori’s reaction.
The rain hit them hard and Gibb was slightly shell-shocked. This is it. He has finally snapped. He eased her into the passenger side, raced over to the driver side, started the engine, threw back the gearshift and heard the tires squeal across the wet pavement.
