Jareth stood quietly over Sarah’s sleeping form. Her hair had lightened beautifully over the years, an almost honey color. His cool ivory hand ghosted across her soft, tanned cheek. He still loved her, though she would never know. He hadn’t spoken to her; he had only dared attempt these silent visits whilst she slept.
These last ten years, he had watched her grow, the only girl that had ever escaped his labyrinth, had become a woman before his very eyes. And what a beautiful woman she had become, shapely, intelligent, and talented. She had encaptivated him, the fire in her eyes, when she fought to save her brother, that incredible smile that graced her soft rosy lips, that same smile, which warmed his icy heart. Just as the laughter of the goblins did on those dark days, when he dare not go and see her.
Jareth slowly and reluctantly withdrew his hand, and leaned down to press his cool lips to her cheek. This chaste kiss was hardly managed. He wanted to ravage her mouth as though he were to die without her sweet lips against his. He slowly stood erect and backed away, unable to tear his eyes away as he dematerialized into the night, returning to his throne in the castle beyond the Goblin City.
Sarah awoke with a start, a cool sweat rolling down her cotton clad back. She had felt it again, the soft lips of her King against her cheek. His kid leather gloves ghosting over her skin. She closed her eyes, his perfectly sculpted face swimming into view before them. That high cheekbone, those thick luscious lips, those steely eyes, the thought of him alone gave her dizzying sensations. She leaned back against her pillows, and held her temples a small sigh lingering on her lips. She did dearly miss, not only the sight of the Goblin King, but of her friends to. Hoggle, Ludo, Sir Diddemus and Ambrosious as well, they had been so kind to her while she fought with them through the labyrinth. She smiled at the memories.
She brushed her hand through her honey hair and sighed. Maybe she needed a cup of cocoa to get her back to sleep. She sighed and slid from between the sheets. The thin white tank top clung tight to her trim figure, the short pink boxers hanging loosely from her hips, swaying as she walked. She made her way down stairs to try and assist in lulling herself back to sleep.
All of this, Jareth watched, from his balcony through one of his precious crystals. How gracefully she seemed to flow as she walked, though as often as she might dance through his dreams, it was not as beautiful to him as she was when she was awake. He passed many more evenings this way than was permissible for a king. He wondered what other courtiers might think. He chuckled at the thought, other courtiers.
Jareth was a solitary creature, though his family was always in close company. His parents before him had once ruled over the Goblin City. His parents were fortunate enough to have passed on in the comfort of one another’s arms while Jareth and his siblings were still quite young. Jareth was the eldest, so he soon lost his treasured childhood to the life of a king. Through seeing the pain and suffering of the people that lived beyond the palace walls, his heart grew cold, and hardened, like marble. His only sister, Elisa was fifteen years younger than Jareth, and the complete opposite of her beloved older brother, she had a heart of gold, and the warmest personality that someone could posses. Younger still than Elisa (18) were the twins, Remus and Rygell (16) and finally, rounding off their little family, the baby, Zenith (9). Indeed, his name was unusual, though he loved it. This small, tight knit family was all Jareth had left in the world, and his sister, was one of the few people that could coax him from his trans-dimensional spying.
A soft knock on Jareth’s door stirred him from his thoughts, his sister opened the door and slowly peered in, “Jareth, you need to come and eat your dinner. It’s going to get cold. Now, get up and come eat. I won’t have you skipping meals to stare into that silly little crystal.” She said stepping fully into the room and putting her hands on her tiny hips. She flipped her long blonde hair as though daring him to tell her otherwise.
Jareth smiled and shook his head, when she acted like this; she looked just like their mother. “Alright Elisa, I’m coming. Are the boys already downstairs?” He asked tossing the crystal into the air as it disappeared. “Also sister dear, why haven’t you been tending to yourself lately?” He asked quietly, “I know that you haven’t been practicing your lessons. You’ve been keeping yourself occupied much like I have. Now, do I have to ask you who have you, been keeping your eyes on in the other realm?”
Her ivory skin turned a little pink as she looked at a spot on the wall, “that my dear brother is not any of your concern. So what If I share your love of viewing the other world, the place that you used to tell me bedtime stories about. About the little human boy that you let me play with before Sarah saved him.” She smiled a little, “I like to see how Toby turned out.. And how Sarah is doing after all the stories, I can’t help but be curious. You should be glad Zenith hasn’t caught other-world fever like the rest of your siblings.”
Jareth smiled, it was true, all of his siblings, save his youngest brother, had caught what they called, other world fever. Elisa had caught it from Jareth when she was young, and in turn, the Twins had caught it from Elisa when she had retold the tales. Zenith, however, was not so fascinated with the other realms. He was more excited about going outside and working in the castles’ gardens. He loved the smell of fresh earth under his hands, and even though he was only nine, he knew the value of the dark brown earth. He moved and took his sisters arm to escort her to dinner with their family.
Sarah sighed, she had been up for hours, and been able to do nothing more than sit and stare at the walls. Her hand clutched a lukewarm mug of cocoa. She wanted to call Toby.. He could always talk to her, and help calm her nerves. She sighed and shook her head checking her watch. It was nearly four am.. He’d be up for classes in just a few hours. She thought and nearly slapped herself, he had finals in the morning. If she had been stupid enough to disturb him, who knows what repercussions that could have had on his course work.
She ran a hand through her hair and rested her head on the table, Why was she dreaming of the enchanting Goblin King? His face seemed to swim to the front of her mind. Those handsome features, high cheekbone, steel colored eyes. She shivered at the memory. She sighed and held her knees, “I wish I could go back to him..” She said speaking quietly, she set her mug down on the kitchen table and rested her nose on her knees, “I wish I knew the words..”
