Title: What Time Is It?
---------
Local basketball star, Troy Bolton, groaned, rolling over onto his stomach, nose pressed firmly into the pillow, brown hair falling over his ears but doing little to stop the annoying beeping of the alarm clock by his bed. Unfortunately, lying perfectly still and not breathing didn't help so the teen pushed himself up and smacked a hand on the top of the alarm, effectively stopping the sound by pressing the snooze button. Smiling faintly, he had just settled down against his pillow again when his door was opened and someone stepped inside.
"Troy. Get up. You can't be late for your first day."
His mother's voice didn't really do much to make him want to get up and start moving, though the loud beeping starting was enough to make him jump. Blue eyes wide, he looked around the room before flipping the switch on the side of the clock and sluggishly moving off his bed. He grabbed some jeans and a polo shirt before making his way across the hall to the bathroom, washing his face at the sink and brushing his teeth.
Somewhere along the line he had gathered the energy to pull off his t-shirt and switch it for the polo, jeans getting pulled over his boxers. He combed through his hair and leaned close to the mirror, giving himself a complete look over before he heard the faint sound of a catchy jingle playing from past the door.
Leaving his clothes for his mom to handle, he bolted out of the bathroom and grabbed his phone, a hand grabbing the beltloop of his pants to keep them from falling down.
"Hello."
Damn...why didn't he look before answering it?
"Hey, Captain. We gonna take that trophy again this year?"
Chad, of course. Who else could call him at seven thirty in the morning and get away with it? Troy balanced the phone between his ear and shoulder while he pulled up his pants and grabbed a belt.
"Of course, Man... Who else could take it from us?"
His eyes closed at the laugh on the other end while his fingers worked the belt through each looped and hooked it tight enough to keep his pants from falling off but loose enough to let his jeans rest low on his hips.
"No one! What team?"
Troy grinned. "Wildcats!"
Both boys laughed before a knock at the door interrupted the cheer.
"Troy. Breakfast is ready. Come on. Get your shoes on. Your father already left."
Chad had started passionately explaining a new play that he had thought up yesterday while Troy's mom was talking and Troy only caught the end of it. "Yea, Man. We'll do that at first practice. I better go before Ma has a heart attack."
"Great! Later, Hoops."
With a snap the phone was closed and Troy was heading downstairs in his socks, stepping into the kitchen and shoveling his breakfast into his mouth at an alarming rate. Once finished, he glanced around.
"What time is it?"
"Time for the bus."
Troy inwardly groaned but slipped on his shoes, grabbed his bag only to be pulled into a hug by his mom.
"You're not too old to give me a hug bye."
Troy sighed but hugged her, smiling anyway before turning, "I've really gotta go. I'll see you after practice!"

The jerk of the bus snapped Troy back to the world and he was stepping off the bus, smiling and waving to just about everyone in the school that wanted to say hi. He didn't linger outside and after a quick look around the yard. Gabriella was probably already in home room, talking to Taylor.
When he hopped into class he bumped into a blonde, hat wearing Evans boy. Though, after blinking, he noticed said bump had caused the Evans boy to knock into his Evans sister. Thankfully the younger of the twins had caught his sister around the waist before she fell but she didn't seem any happier about the situation for it.
"Ry! What are yo-" She yelled, blonde hair flipping about as she turned and her brother released her. Her brown eyes locked on Troy in an instant and she had wriggled out of Ryan's arms and rounded on Troy. He frowned faintly and looked around the classroom, only to see Ryan approaching Gabriella with a friendliness that he wasn't sure he felt comfortable seeing.
"Troy! You're going to audition with me for the winter musical, right? I had our new concert pianist write a song for us. I thought we could just sing it, you know?"
"Sharpay...I... What? I wasn't even planning on auditioning...and there might not even be a winter musical this year." Troy said, eyeing her suspiciously. "Aren't you auditioning with Ryan, anyway?"
"Of course there's going to be, Silly." Sharpay all but chirped before flipping her hair over her shoulder. "We've already talked to Mrs. Darbus. He wants some supporting role so he has to audition seperately." She said with a shrug, speaking as if auditioning with someone other than Ryan was as natural as performing with her twin.
Troy was about to protest, eyes darting back to Gabriella who was happily chatting up the male Evans twin before looking back to Sharpay to find her face in a pout.
"You...didn't sing with me. You promised, Troy. We were going to do a duet..."
Something stung within Troy's chest. He sighed, letting out some of the tension with the breath. "Yea. Sure. I keep my promises. We'll just tell Mrs. Darbus that I'm just going to sing with you. Not really auditioning." He smiled hopefully and took Sharpay's excited expression as a good thing.
"Fabulous!"
If anyone could pull Mrs.Darbus in any direction, it was one of the Evans twins.
The warning bell sounded and suddenly more students started filling in and Troy took his usual spot infront of Chad's usual seat without thinking.
"Troy!"
He turned his head, smiling at the smiling face of his girlfriend. She gave a wave before Chad moved fluidly into his seat and waved a hand infront of Troy's face, distracting him.
"Hey, Man."
Troy could almost swear that they started every conversation the same way, but he opened his mouth, amazingly holding a grin when the second bell chimed and the door shut.
"Mr. Bolton. Speaking after the bell...not a good start to your final year here." Mrs. Darbus drawled, stepping up onto the miniture stage in her classroom, eyeing all of her students. "I hope your summer went well..."
As if on cue, Jason raised his hand from behind Chad. Troy's eyes were fixed on the front but he could practically feel Chad's inward groan and hear him slumping in the chair behind him.
"What did you do this summer, Mrs. Darbus?"
The class groaned and Mrs. Darbus looked pleased and began telling the class all about her new ideas for the winter musiCAL. Certainly, it sounded fine and all, but Troy wasn't feeling terribly interested in it. All he could think about was exactly what Sharpay was going to make him sing in a couple weeks.

A/N - Okay. That's chapter one. Pairings...haven't been decided. It'll probably be slash. Since I'm not too good with the other stuff. I can write it...just not the main pairing. If it wasn't obvious...Troy's the main character. If you don't want to see him breakup with Gaby and end up with a dude...then... you'll probably not want to go on to the next chapter. I don't know WHO he'll end up with...but it won't be an original character... It will probably be Chad or Ryan...I dunno. I haven't decided yet. Maybe Jason. I think Jason is sweet. Who would you like to see?
