Connection

This is an old story that I am just now posting. It was originally untitled but I gave it a title for the sske of posting it. Title is the title of the song Connection by Sean Paul ft. Nina Sky, which I was listening to as typed the summary and whatnot. In a way it kinda sorta goes with the story. .....enjoy!
Pairing: James Norrington/Will Turner
-

“Excellent Mr. Brown, you have assisted in the capture of a wanted fugitive.”

“Just doing my civic duties,” the old man slurred. I couldn’t believe it. I had risked my life to stop a pirate. It didn’t matter. It was something I had grown accustomed to.

“I trust you will remember this as the day Captain Jack Sparrow almost got away,” the commodore said. “Take him away.” I turned away, pretending to clean up while the words of Captain Jack Sparrow rang in my mind. ‘This shot was not meant for you.’ As the guards proceeded to carry Sparrow off, Norrington spoke with Mr. Brown. “Mr. Brown you have been of great help. If you would please follow the guards, I’m sure they will arrange for your reward.” I heard the old man laugh greedily and scurry after the guards.

“Thank you Will.” I had slowly began putting things where they belonged. “For what?” I asked him. “Well for the sword.” I froze. How is it he is the only one that ever gives me credit for my work even when Elizabeth doesn’t know that it was my hands, not that drunk old man’s, that makes every sword this shop sells?

Elizabeth. She was the reason I fought Captain Sparrow. I love her, but not as one would think. I love her like a sister. “And for stopping Sparrow.” James was now close behind me, speaking softly into my ear. No one knew or was to know about James and I. On my nineteenth birthday, he had one of his men tell me he needed to see me in his office. I was terrified. This had never happened before. When I got to his office, he asked me to have a seat. He said he had something important to tell me.

“Mr. Turner,” he began.

“Please. Call me Will.” He looked at me for a moment.

“Will,” he began again. “Since your arrival here, I have watched you grow into a fine young man. What I mean to say is...what do you think of me?” I looked up at him, blinking in surprise.

“You are a good man, sir.” He looked at me, searching my eyes for something unknown to me. Finally he stopped searching and took a step forward, closing the space between us. Slowly, he leaned forward until his breath tickled the bridge of my nose. Then he spoke.

“I like you very much William Turner.” And with that he placed his lips on mine. My arms grew minds of their own and wrapped themselves around his neck. He pulled me closer so that our bodies were touching. That was the first time James had shown me any emotion and certainly wasn’t the last.

“James.”

“Yes Will?” I thought for a moment before turning around to face the man behind me. He looked at me, waiting to hear my question so he could give me an answer. I sighed.

“How’s Elizabeth?”

“She’s fine. Do you want to go check on her?” he asked looking at me questioningly.

“No.” I said a little too quickly. He smiled at the slight blush on my face and kissed me.

“Are you worried about her?” I looked at him.

“A little,” I admitted.

“Well don’t be. She is fine. Sparrow got to her in time.” My eyes widened.

“What?!” He looked down at me.

“It seems Sparrow was the one who saved Elizabeth from drowning.” Jack Sparrow, a pirate, saved Elizabeth from drowning? Again his words rang like little silver bells in my ears. ‘This shot was not meant for you.’ The commodore’s voice brought me back to the smith shop.

“Are you alright Will?” he asked looking at me quizzically.

“Yes,” I replied. “Just a little tired that’s all. Shouldn’t you be going now? The guards might come looking for you.” I needed time to think, but felt bad when I saw the hurt look on his face.

“Right,” he said taking a step back, once again in the open space. “Perhaps we can meet later?” I nodded. We walked to the door and stopped for a moment.

“Well. Until tonight then.” He leaned down and placed a kiss on my lips before straightening himself and walking out of the smithy. I closed the door and turned around to clean the mess that had been made by my fight with the infamous Jack Sparrow.

After I had finished cleaning I went to wash up. I boiled some water and took a hot bath in hopes of relieving some of the pain in my muscles. I scrubbed off all the marks of the fight that would come off with soap and water. After I was clean and my muscles felt a little more relaxed, I got out and got dressed. Mr. Brown would not be coming home tonight. He would be at a pub, drinking down his reward. I left the shop and headed for the beach where James would be waiting. He was already there waiting, just as I expected. I have never gotten here before him. I walked over to where he stood, looking out at the ocean. “It’s beautiful.” I said admiring the way the moon and stars reflected off of the surface of the water.

“Yes it is,” he said. I looked over to see him no longer looking at the water, but at me instead. He stepped forward, closing the space between us for the second time that day.

“I love you, William.” And with that, he kissed me. I ran my tongue over his lips teasingly, which caused him to do the same. I opened my mouth allowing him access. He happily complied, sliding his tongue into my mouth to explore what it had so many times before. It stayed that way for what seemed like an eternity. Then we broke apart.

“Will. I have something to tell you.” He held me a little tighter.

“What is it?” I asked, beginning to worry when he hesitated.

“I...I asked Elizabeth to marry me.” He looked away. I, however, could not do the same. I felt my stomach churn.

“But we can still be together.” I couldn’t believe it. How could he say such a thing?

“Elizabeth is like a sister to me, I could never do such a thing to her.” I didn’t know what else to say.

“Will,” he said “I am only marrying her because her father expects it.” I looked at him, shocked and angry by the fact that he could sound so cruel. He took notice of this and quickly tried to reassure me.

“I love her Will, but not the way I love you.” He leaned down and kissed me again. But this one didn’t last very long. I broke the kiss and stepped out of the arms that had held me against the man I thought loved. He looked at me.

“I’m sorry. I have to get home before Mr. Brown gets back.” I knew he wouldn’t be back until sometime the next day but I needed to get away for awhile.

“That old fool won’t be back anytime tonight,” he said, knowing what the old man was like.

“I...I have to go,” and with that I turned and headed toward the smith shop.

When I got home I went straight to bed. Thankfully , Mr. Brown was, indeed, at a pub getting drunk. I don’t know how long I had lied in bed before I finally fell asleep. It wasn’t, however a peaceful sleep. I dreamt that I was back on the beach in James’ arms. Then all of a sudden he stabs me with the sword I made. As I lie in the sand dying, Elizabeth walks into James’ arms and they go, leaving me to die. I woke up drenched with sweat. That dream scared me. Could they really be capable of such brutality? Knowing I would not be going back to sleep, and noting that it was still nighttime, I began a new sword to take my mind off things. The clang of the hammer striking the metal and the anvil had become a soothing sound.

I was nearly finished when I heard it. A silent thunder that started within me, replacing my pulse with a beat much stronger and more menacing. It seemed to beckon me. I walked to the window and looked out. There was no one around and a thick fog blanketed the streets. I sensed something. Something big. It was coming for me. I closed the window and went back to working on the sword. However, it had lost all the comfort it had just a second ago. Whatever was coming wasn’t good. I could sense...evil? It wasn’t long before I heard the cannon fire. A loud blast heard all throughout Port Royal no doubt. Not too long after came the shouts. A mysterious ship was headed straight for the harbor, firing the cannons which were aimed at Port Royal. For some reason I couldn’t explain, I felt the need to go and fight. I grabbed my favorite sword and a hatchet and headed for the door.
