At one point in the first book of the Dune series, called, of course Dune, Feyd fails to assassinate his uncle, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, thus gaining the throne. As punishment, the Baron makes Feyd kill all the female slaves who serve as his lovers. He explains to Feyd that he must learn the price of failure.
