Enterprise – star date 3506 Wednesday

Captain James T Kirk let out the breath he was holding for two hours as the damaged Enterprise limped into the Federation docking bay Magellan. It was just a two-week excursion into deep space to provide protection for workers rebuilding a strategic satellite but it turned into something even worse.

~Two weeks earlier~

A federation warship called the Anacept roamed the region 154gid where the satellite repairs were beginning. The captain of the warship took exception to the Federation’s command to leave his patrol. Apparently, they thought the Enterprise was better than his warship. Anacept was three times as big and as fast. Her weaponry out-classed the Enterprise and as for the captain, Kirk and his crew except the communication officer, Anacept were the best of the best.

Klingons roamed this space and they wanted him to leave it. The captain of the ship Anacept Lawrence Nelson argued that he was far better equipped than the Enterprise to handle a possible fight with the two Klingon vessels that patrolled there.

Lawrence looked at his dark haired communication specialist Sasha Petton and ordered her to close the link with the Enterprise so he could talk with the Federation alone. She was not exactly sure how to do that but pressed a few buttons and nodded back at Nelson.

“Look I have been here for two years and no Klingons have ever defeated me. If I leave here they will win because neither Kirk nor his crew of incompetents can handle the demands of a starship.”

“We know that this is his first command but he is exemplary in his decision making. Besides, the Klingons respect him and keep their distance when they know he is around.”

“Are you saying they do not fear the Anacept?”

“What we are saying Captain Nelson is that we want the Enterprise to this babysitting you are needed at the space station Magellan.”

It was all a lie. They wanted to replace him. They thought he was not in the right ship. They wanted Kirk to have the top of the line warship. They always wanted James T Kirk. Lawrence was always second best to them. They looked over his sacrifices but Kirk’s disobedience and reckless behavior they rewarded. So many looked up to the young captain the Federation was no different.

Lawrence looked at the communication console where officer Petton sat and saw the red blinking light. A feeling of dread and rage filled his body.

Jim heard every word Nelson screamed over the com at his communication officer once he realized that she did not close the link to the Enterprise. After a few seconds, the link went dead. The crew of the Enterprise was silent.

Eventually the warship Anacept left the vicinity and passed four Klingon vessels on the boundary of the claimed space by the Federation. They were not poised for any type of attack. They regularly invaded the boundary when he patrolled but now they sat quietly almost at sleep.

A slow smile began on Lawrence’s face as they prepared for warp drive.

“Captain there was an energy surge from the Anacept right before she went into warp drive. I do not know what she was shooting at?” Chekov’s voice met dead silence. The officer looked up from his console and at the large viewing screen on the bridge. Four Klingon vessels surrounded them with weapons at the ready. It seemed their respect had dwindled away.

Warship Anacept – star date 3506- Wednesday

Lieutenant Sasha Petton paced angrily inside her cell while her superiors decided her fate in an adjacent room. She had lied to them. She was not a graduate from her studies of Linguistics. She never finished her classes because of her psych evaluation stating that she possessed violent and corruptible tendencies. However, Sasha told her instructor her departure was due to her ailing mother. Vivian Petton was ill but did not want her daughter anywhere around her.

It was her mother’s fault she was mentally unstable as the doctor concluded. Sasha never felt love from her mother she only felt control. Her friend Lonni thought she was a dutiful daughter when she informed her she was leaving to see to her mother. She was not dutiful just thorough. This would be the last time Sasha ever spoke of her mother. Death by suffocation was a humane way to silence the unkind words of that came from the old woman’s lips.

After her mother’s death, Sasha managed to secure a job with a flight transport. A talented hacker she proved to be when she broke into Lonni’s personal files and read up on her friend. To assume someone’s career she had to know her degree of education and Lonnie was a good student. Sasha supplemented her knowledge by secretly reading Lonnie’s notes when she went to visit her from time to time. She still portrayed the loving daughter act and lied that her mother was still alive. It would take them several years to find all the pieces.

For one year, she continued to bolster her goodwill and love for Lonnie until graduation day. She waited in Lonnie’s room and when the new graduate arrived, she struck. Dressed in all blue because it was Lonnie’s favorite color Sasha committed another act of rage and murdered her friend.

Sasha nibbled on her thumbnail as she tried to think of something to say that would make them release her and have pity. She was good at manipulation and the captain had his quirks, as did the others. She could use them to her favor.

“She had all the proper documents.” Doctor Jeri frowned at the computer screen as she spoke.

“She lied to us and possibly put this entire ship in the path of destruction.” Lawrence scratched his blond head in frustration. His vision of his perfect crew was falling apart. His communications officer was a liar and possibly a murderer. His Doctor sold organs to the highest bidder after performing needless operations. His first mate was a Romulan named Grattan that still professed his allegiance to Nero in secret. His security force was a bunch of bullies that only listened to him, not that that was bad but he could not keep his eyes on them all the time.

The only one that seemed to have innocence within was his head engineer named Hasda. However, his violent outburst at Lawrence for the firing on the Klingon war vessels landed him in quarter confinement since their return to the star base Magellan. This only added to the Federation's annoyance with him. He knew his days were numbered, and as soon as Kirk returned, his days as captain of this warship would end.

Grattan watched the pronounced veins in his frustrated captain’s neck pounded furiously in rage. He was losing his grip on this situation he made for himself. This crew was incompetent and he knew it. What captain Nelson did not know was that soon Grattan’s race would score the most devastating blow against the Federation since the terror bombing last week on the star base Dina. He sent word to his emperor and hid them among the Romulan citizens living on the star base Magellan. The federation was no longer suspicious of them now seeing that their own kind caused the greatest problems. Grattan would have to thank his captain for being the greatest problem of them all.

A loud roar interrupted Nelson’s brooding, he touched a button on the control panel before him, and one of his crewmembers appeared on the screen wearing a smile as those behind him cheered. Most of his crew was on the star base only those loyal to him remained behind so he thought.

“What the hell is going on?”

“The Enterprise has returned. They made it.” The others behind the man cheered as the announcement rang throughout the space station.

A cold chill ran through Nelson’s body as he turned off the monitor. It seemed his life would end as well as soon as Kirk found him and he was sure that was his first order of business.

Enterprise~

“Scotty you have the com, make the necessary repairs and I will see you tomorrow. Mr. Spock, Sulu, and Uhura I need you to come with me.”

“Captain, Admiral Henry is hailing us.” Uhura turned to face Kirk but knew that right now he did not care. He was out for blood it was all he talked about from the second the last Klingon vessel perished. Nelson would hurt today.

Uhura removed the earpiece and stood. “Shouldn’t you take McCoy instead of me I am sure you wil…”

“He has a picture of you in his room. He has several pictures of you in fact. He fought hard to get you aboard his ship but lost to me and that fuels his rage. I am sure you want pay back for our lives being in danger but he will not come out for me. For you though, he would fight a legion of Klingons.”

Jim walked towards his lieutenant with a smile on his face. He knew she was angry he even thought he heard unladylike words come from her when they were in the heat of battle.

“So you want me to be the bait.”

Jim looked at the beautiful woman standing before him and lost his smile and let his anger shine through. “Yes, I do.”

A slow dazzling smile formed on Uhura’s lips before she answered. “Okay,”
