You Keep What You Kill

Vaako remembers in exquisite detail the day Riddick Claimed him.

He remembers fighting with his wife for his utter lack of interest in her machinations and the quiet taunts and whispers of "traitor" from his enemies.

He remembers the quiet discussion with the Lord Marshall as to how one could place a permanent claim on something that belonged to someone else. To the confusing questions he had only one answer: You keep what you kill.

Vaako remembers the dull meetings with the higher ups and the way the Lord Marshall had been distracted and even more irritable than usual. He remembers the summons of the Lord Marshall calling all the Necromongers to him.

He remembers Riddick's large arm wrapping itself around his throat and locking across his opposite arm, cutting off the breath he needed to keep living. Remembers the looks of glee as his enemies believed he was finally getting his due from the Lord Marshall.

He does not remember being laid on the floor like a favored child nor does he remember the Lord Marshall calling a medic forward to check that he is indeed dead. He does not remember his wife thinking that this means that Riddick wants her and rushing to his side only to have a shiv appear almost magically between her breasts, blood welling as she fell dead where she stood. He does not remember the Lord Marshall ordering him to be revived.

Vaako remembers his first painful breath of rebirth, remembers opening his eyes and seeing Riddick staring down at him with a faintly amused smirk on his face. He remembers being pulled to his feet as the crowd stared down at him in awe and perhaps more than a little envy.

He remembers questions being shouted and Riddick's answer, proof of his acceptance of the Necromonger way.

"You keep what you kill."

He is still the First Among Commanders, but now he is so much more than that. He is the only one who can approach Riddick about anything without fear and as such has become the unofficial liaison between Riddick and the menial classes. He knows all the secrets Riddick permits him to know, things no one else ever knew. He can touch Riddick when ever he wants, revel in the heat and power barely contained in his surprisingly soft skin. He is allowed to stand in Riddick's blind spot and he has Riddick's trust that he'll never stick a knife between his shoulders.

But above all Vaako is Riddick's, a thing more precious than any honor bestowed on him, any trust given to him.

Mate, pack, pet, anything Riddick wants him to be. All Riddick has to say is

"You keep what you kill."
