Summary: Kirk is bored and impatient. McCoy decides to show him that good things are worth waiting for.
A/N: Improv, unbeta’d ficlet. This was written last Fall and was the consequence of me finishing a hellacious week in school where I'd had three term papers due in three days and I spent a LOT of time in the library to get them done. Aside from my Trekmas fic, this was my first real entry into the Star Trek fandom.

Jim Kirk was fucking bored.
He and Bones had been in one of the Starfleet Academy libraries for hours, and he was running out of things to do. He’d already finished his assignments for Advanced Phonology and Tactical Analysis, written a paper for Interspecies Ethics and had even completed a project for Stellar Cartography that wasn’t due for another two weeks. He was now reduced to reading some of Admiral Archer’s old dissertations to pass the time, which was just pathetic, in his opinion. After reading the same paragraph four times, he looked up at his companion and scowled.
“Bones,” he whined, “I’m tired, I’m bored, and I want to get the fuck out of here. It’s Friday. We should be out drinking or hustling people at pool. Or both.”
Looking up from the stack of PADDs that surrounded him, Leonard McCoy rolled his eyes. “Jim,” he replied. “In case you hadn’t noticed, not all of us work as fast as you. I’m not finished with this paper for Forensic Pathology. After seeing the body and reading the autopsy reports, it’s obvious the instructor is an idiot,” McCoy groused, “since he missed several telltale signs of coleibric hemorrhage in the Cardassian cadaver he had us examine. He’s trying to pass of the man’s death as an aneurysm, but I know better and I’m going to prove it.”
“Bones, you’ve been proving it for the better part of ten hours now,” Kirk sighed. “If we stay here any longer, I’m going to want a coleibric hemorrhage of my own just to kill the boredom.”
“You can’t have a coleibric hemorrhage, kid,” Leonard replied as he went back to his work. “You’re not Cardassian.”
Rolling his eyes, Kirk groaned. “Fine. I’m not Cardassian. But I am going out of my mind here. I’ve read the same goddamned paragraph four times. Archer’s boring enough the first time. Come on, Bones,” Jim griped. “You can show off your medical genius later. Right now I need a drink and you need to relax. I’ll even buy the first round.”
Shaking his head and laughing fondly at his friend, Leonard looked over at Jim. “Easy, kid. I just need a few more minutes and I’m done. Ten more minutes, twenty tops, then we’ll leave. I promise.” Taking in the annoyed glance he was rewarded with, McCoy chuckled again and reached across the table, squeezing Jim’s hand to soothe him. “Just a few more minutes, Jim. Please?”
“Oh, all right,” Kirk huffed. “But you owe me for this,” he said, pointing a finger at McCoy.
Arching an eyebrow, Leonard looked askance at Jim and replied, “You need to learn patience, kid. Just give me the time I need and I’ll make it up to you, okay?”
Muttering under his breath, Kirk stood, straightened his cadet reds and said, “Fine. I’m going to go walk around. When you’re done, come find me or comm me.”
Watching his younger friend walk away, the brunette shook his head and smiled to himself. He and Jim had been roommates for two years, and the blonde man still couldn’t sit still, especially for studying. Jim was the kind of man who preferred to operate on impulse, moving and working hard in rapid bursts then casting all work aside when he was done to go out and drink, fight, fuck, or some combination of the three. Leonard, on the other hand, had a quieter, more thorough nature, allowing him to spend hours on end working on medical reports, reading a good book, or savoring a glass of good bourbon at the end of a long day. It was a skill set that came in handy as a surgeon and doctor, and it fit his more laid back temperament just fine. Besides, he’d already sown his oats at Ole Miss and had no desire to act like a frat boy all over again.
He really had to give Jim Kirk a lesson in the value of patience.
Quickly finishing the section of his paper he’d been working on and satisfied that he’d made enough progress for the weekend, Leonard packed up his belongings and left the library. He walked out of the building and wandered around the nearby courtyard and across the gardens until he finally found Jim leaning against a rather impressive willow tree as he stared out at the bay, the light breeze ghosting through his short blonde hair. Kirk’s posture was relaxed, and when he looked over and saw McCoy approaching, he smiled a brilliant flash of white teeth, his blue eyes flashing in amusement.
“Finally!” teased Kirk. “I was starting to worry that you’d be in there all night when there’s perfectly good booze to be had, Bones.” Jim let his eyes wander over Leonard’s body, and he unconsciously licked his lips. The cadet reds clung to his larger, athletic frame in all the right places, giving Kirk some interesting mental images, mostly of stripping that uniform off the other man’s body and having his way with him. Setting aside that train of thought, Jim stood idly by and waited for Leonard to join him.
Looking back out over the bay, Jim continued to think about his friend. McCoy might be a doctor, but Jim also knew he worked hard to stay in shape. Alcohol consumption aside, Leonard took his own health as seriously as he did Jim’s, making sure they both ate properly and exercised daily, and it showed. He had a toned, muscled body, broad shoulders, and the softest dark brown hair that Jim had ever seen. It flopped just so over his eyes making the younger man want to run his hands through it and push it out of his face, but he’d always set those thoughts aside. McCoy was his best friend, and he didn’t want to jeopardize things by making a move that might be unwanted.
For his part, Leonard had seen the look in Jim’s eyes, and a single thought went through his mind: Perfect. Moving to stand in front of Jim, Leonard cocked his head to the side, hazel eyes raking over the, lithe, toned form of the man before him. “We’ll go in a minute, Jim. First, I believe there was a matter of me owing you?” he smirked. “Well, I’m here to pay.”
Reaching out and drawing Jim into a deep kiss, Leonard’s tongue traced the outline of the younger man’s full bottom lip as he tasted Jim’s surprise and pleasure. His hands were lightly grazing over Kirk’s waist and hips as he pinned the blonde to the tree at his back. A startled gasp and the doctor slid his tongue past Jim’s lips, licking his way in and probing the wet heat of the mouth below his.
When air became an issue, the two men came apart, and hazel met blue in amusement.
“Bones, what…?” asked Jim. “This is unexpected. Nice, too. But anyone can see us here. We’re in public.”
Shaking his head and chuckling, Leonard looked at Jim and replied, “You’re not the only one who understands tactics, kid. It’s dark outside and I’ve moved us to an angle that isn’t immediately visible from the Academy. Plus, at this time of night most folks are either heading to dinner or heading out to the bars and clubs. There’s no one around. I can do what I want to you now, and nobody here will be the wiser,” he whispered, leaning in and kissing Jim once more, his right hand going to the zipper of the red slacks Kirk was wearing, and opening them to him. Reaching in, he took Jim’s hard length in hand and lightly stroked it, eliciting a moan from the young man.
“Now,” he drawled, “what’s the best way to pay what I owe?” McCoy asked rhetorically. “I think showing you the value of patience might be a good start,” he smirked, Leonard sinking to his knees before Jim.
Fisting his hands through the dark brown hair of the man in front of him, Jim groaned and threw his head back as Leonard’s mouth closed over his cock, taking him in. Jim looked down in disbelief as the full, sinful lips he’d fantasized about were now wrapped around his dick, the sight sending spikes of lust through his body and vaporizing all conscious thought. Using a sure, soft stroke to trace the underside of Jim’s shaft and circle the crown before taking him in once more, Leonard began a steady rhythm that was quickly driving Jim wild.
“Fuck…Bones…don’t stop…” Jim moaned breathily, as he began to meet McCoy halfway, thrusting into that warm, wet mouth. Over and over, Leonard met each of Kirk’s thrusts as he kissed, licked, nibbled and sucked on the younger man’s shaft, using what he liked and the noises Jim was making as his guide for what would get Kirk off the fastest.
Jim was in a daze, his mind swimming in lust. The sight of McCoy on his knees sucking his dick, the excitement of being in a semi-public place, and the idea that this was only the beginning of something between the two of them drove Jim closer to the edge, his climax starting to pool at the base of his spine. He soon found himself desperate for release and Jim traced his right hand across McCoy’s jaw and tightened his grip on the brown hair under his left hand. This drew a moan from Leonard, the vibrations sending another wave of pleasure through Jim. Finally, something snapped inside Kirk. His body stiffened, hands lacing into McCoy’s hair as he came with a low moan, Leonard swallowing every drop.
After licking Jim clean, tucking him back into his briefs and refastening the cadet red slacks that he wore, Leonard looked up at Kirk with an amused gleam in hazel eyes. Jim groaned and pulled McCoy up into a deep kiss, tasting himself on the other man’s lips. He moaned in contentment and broke the kiss to look at Leonard; taking in the other man’s flushed face and swollen mouth, he decided he wanted to see that look more often. Every day and twice on Sunday, if possible.
McCoy grinned and pulled Jim into his arms. “Been wanting to do that for a while, kid,” he confessed, his voice rough and low.
“How long?” whispered Jim in disbelief. He wasn’t sure he’d ever come down from tonight, but he had to know.
“Does it really matter?” shrugged Leonard. “I was just waiting for the right opportunity. Patience is a virtue, after all.”
“I’m beginning to see that,” answered Kirk. “Any chance of more opportunities later?” he wondered, waggling his eyebrows as he spoke.
Rolling his eyes, McCoy’s mouth quirked into a grin and he looked at Jim. “We’ll see, kid. Now, I assume I’ve paid back what I owe?” he said.
“Oh, most definitely,” grinned Jim, sated tone in his voice. “You’ve paid me back and then some.”
“Good,” Leonard replied. “Now let’s get out of here, kid. I seem to recall you offering to buy me a drink.”
“After that, Bones, I’ll buy you the whole damned bottle,” laughed Kirk as he pulled McCoy in for a soft, sweet kiss. As he slanted his lips and deepened his connection with Leonard, a thought crystallized at the back of Jim’s mind. He wasn’t sure what would happen between them after tonight, but for once in his life, he found that he really didn’t mind waiting for the answer.
