Commodore Norrington stood stiffly behind Will Turner as the young blacksmith slid a hammered blade into the cool water beside the anvil.
"Congratulations, Commodore, Elizabeth told me she accepted your proposel."
"Ah, yes, I was, er, wondering about that." Norrington was only slighuncouncomfortable in the younger man's presence.
Will laid the hammer down and turned to face the other man. "We decided, Elizabeth and I, that we were better friends, that we weren't meant to marry." Will gave a smile smile to the officer. "I can't give her what she wants, and she can't give me what I need. I don't know what I need." He confessed, wiping his forehead with a cloth.
"She'll always be my friend, my best friend and I'll always love her. As a sister. "
Norrington relaxed just a little, shoulders loosing that stiff, wooden look. "So you are all right about this, then?"
"Just know, if you hurt her, you'll be very sorry." Will smiled gently, brown eyes meaning every word. "And I wish you every happiness in the world. Take care of her, Commodore, she deserves the best."
Norrington nodded. "I shall. I swear, Elizabeth shall never want for anything."
