Chapter 1
Luke groaned as he entered his apartment on Corusant. He had just returned from settling a dispute…yet again. As much as he loved being a Jedi Master, he hated dealing with politics which unfortunately came with being a Jedi.
‘It’s good to be home.’ he thought as he dropped onto his sofa. He sighed as his commlink went off. “Skywalker,”
“Luke, it’s Karrde,”
“Hello Talon. What can I do for you?”
“It’s Mara. She went on a trade run for me three days ago. Normally I wouldn’t be worried except she hasn’t checked in yet. That’s not like her. Just a short time ago, we located her homing beacon on her ship,” Talon explained.
“Where is she? Is she alright?” Luke asked as he sat up straight.
“That’s just it. We found the JADE’S FIRE on Naboo, but no Mara. She made the drop, but no one’s seen her since,” Talon answered.
“Send me the information you have. I’ll head for Naboo within the hour,” Luke instructed.

Mara slowly sat up, holding her throbbing head. She looked around to try and figure out where she was. Right away she noticed two things. One, she was in a cell of some kind. Two, she was on a ship and it wasn’t the FIRE.
‘What did you get yourself into now Jade?’ she wondered as she got to her feet.
Just then, the door opened. She glared at the two men who entered. “Glad to see you’re awake Jade,”
“Who the hell are you?” Mara demanded.
“I’m Corsen and this is my second in command, Devilon,” Corsen replied.
“Fine. Where am I and what do you want with me?” she growled.
“You are on our ship. As to what we want, simple. The Empire has a rather large bounty on your head and we plan to collect,” Devilon answered.
“The Empire? Don’t you mean former Empire? There’s not enough left to conquer an asteroid field,” she shot back.
“It doesn’t matter, you are worth a lot to us. If you wish to remain in one piece, I wouldn’t try any of that Jedi nonsense,” Corsen warned.
Mara snarled at them as they left. With a heavy sigh, she dropped back onto the cot. As she buried her fingers in her hair, she hoped that by now, Talon had located her ship on Naboo.

Luke made his way to the palace in Theede. After the fall of the Empire, Naboo had re-established their former system of government. It was shortly after the defeat of the Empire that he and Leia had discovered their mother was a former Queen and Senator for Naboo.
“Master Skywalker, we received your message. Queen Amielia is waiting for you,” Governor Parnaka greeted.
“Thank you Governor,” Luke nodded as he and Parnaka entered the palace.
As they headed for the throne room, Luke couldn’t help but imagine his mother walking these very halls. From what he had learned of her, she was a very strong will woman and a wonderful ruler and Senator.
“Greeting Master Jedi Skywalker,” Amielia nodded.
“Thank you for seeing me on such short notice your highness,” Luke bowed.
“It is my pleasure to assist the son of Padme Amidala. She was a wonderful Queen and person. Now, how can we assist you?’ she smiled.
“I’m looking for a friend, her name is Mara Jade. She was here making a trade delivery for Talon Karrde. Her ship was found in the hanger, but Mara is missing. I was hoping to uncover some clues as to who may have taken her,” he explained.
“I remember Trader Jade. She was delivering parts for our fighters. She and I had lunch to discuss her delivering some spices and other agricultural items to Coruscant for me. She said she would speak to Trader Karrde. That was a week ago,” she said.
“Your highness, during her delivery, was there anyone unusual hanging around or asking questions about her?” he asked.
“I don’t know. Governor, who oversaw the transaction?” Amielia questioned.
“Captain Lewston,” Parnaka answered.
“Send for him immediately,” Amielia ordered.
Lewston arrived at the palace and was quickly filled in on the situation. He was eager to help anyway he could.
“Captain, was there anyone suspicious around the hanger when Mara made her delivery?” Luke inquired.
“Yes, now that you mention it. There were two men who kept staring at Trader Jade. Everywhere she went, they went. They were always close by. When I escorted her to her ship, I saw them following us,” Lewston replied.
“Did Mara know they were following you?” Luke asked.
“If she did, she didn’t say anything to me nor did she show it,” Lewston said.
“Do you know who they were?” Amielia spoke up.
Lewston pulled out his data pad. After a few minutes searching, he found what he was looking for. He quickly handed the data pad to Luke. Luke felt his blood run cold when he saw the two men’s names. They wanted him to know who had taken Mara.
“Master Jedi, are you alright?” Amielia asked worriedly.
“No your majesty. I must go immediately. Thank you for all your help,” he answered trying to keep his voice calm.
“Go with the Force Master Jedi Skywalker,” Amielia bowed.

Mara came out of her meditation when her cell door opened yet again. She remained silent as the droid sat a tray of food at the end of her cot and left.
“What do you think Devilon? Do you think she suspects anything?” Corsen asked.
“No. She still thinks she is being taken to the Empire,” Devilon chuckled.
“I can’t wait to see her face when she discovers the true reason behind her capture,” Corsen grinned maliciously as he and Devilon continued to study Mara.
Mara finished her meal and laid on the cot. Ever since she woke up in the cell, she had been trying to piece together the information she knew together. Something about this puzzle just didn’t fit.
‘I know they’re lying about the bounty. If the Empire did have a price on my head, Karrde would have told me. Okay, I was captured to lure somebody here, but who?’ she thought.
She let out a relaxing breath and reached out to the Force. That’s when she felt it. A block. Not like yslaimiri, but close enough to keep her from fully tapping into the Force.
‘Great. Some much for calling Luke,’ she sighed heavily.
Mara tried to levitate the tray, but was only able to lift in a few inches off the floor. Though she wasn’t as reliant on the Force as Luke was, she still didn’t like being cut off from it like she was.
‘Whatever this stuff is, the ship must be coated in it. This adventure just gets better and better,’ she grumbled silently as she laid back down.
************************************************************************
Luke stared out the cockpit of his X-Wing. He had been trying to reach Mara through their bond, but kept hitting a barrier of some kind. He knew whatever it was, it wasn’t good and could cause problems once he did get to her.
‘I knew I should have told her about them. How could I have been so stupid,’ he chided himself.
*Flashback*
“Hey Farmboy,” Mara greeted as she entered Luke’s office at the academy.
“Hello Mara,” Luke smiled as he put a data pad in his top drawer.
“Am I interrupting?” she asked.
“No, just finishing up actually. What brings you by here?” he answered.
“You sister. She asked me to stop by and check on you. To make sure everything was okay. She seemed worried for some reason,” she explained as she sat on his sofa.
“You know Leia. I don’t come by to visit for a few months and she gets worried,” he laughed. *I know what you’re doing Leia,*
*She needs to know Luke. They threatened her too,* Leia argued.
*I’m not going to worry her over nothing,* Luke sent to Leia and gently closed the connection to his twin.
“You alright Skywalker? You look mad,” Mara questioned.
“I’m fine Mara, just telling Leia not to worry about me so much. SO, you staying for dinner?” Luke grinned.
*End Flashback*
Luke sighed as he replayed the threatening messages he had been receiving. Each one more descriptive than the last.
If you care about Mara Jade, you will cease interfering in our business.
It would be a shame if anything were to happen to Jade. Of course, I’m sure we could have some fun with her before we kill her and deliver her body to you.
How far would you go to protect your precious Mara Jade? Would you kill for her? Would you give your life for hers?
Luke gave an angry growl and slammed his eyes closed, trying to control his anger. If only he had told Mara that day two months ago, she might have been prepared. ‘I won’t let anything happen to her. When I find her, I’ll tell her. I’ll tell her how much I love her,’ he vowed.
************************************************************************
“How are we today Jade?” Corsen asked.
“I’ve been better,” Mara stated.
“Awww, and here I was hoping your were enjoying your stay with us,” Corsen laughed.
“Why don’t you just tell me the real reason you have me? I know it’s not for bounty,” she said.
“You are a smart woman. Very well, as much as I would love to prolong this, I guess I could let you in on the surprise. You, my dear Mara Jade, will be the destruction of Master Jedi Skywalker,” he hissed.
“Me? Why would Skywalker care about what happens to me?” she questioned, trying to remain calm.
“Why? You are the one person he would give up everything for. Even I know that he loves you. It will be my pleasure to have the last thing he sees is you die and he helpless to save you,” he growled.
Mara sat frozen on her cot. Corsen’s words slamming into her heart like a block of ice. He spun on his heel and left her alone. She let out a strangled breath as she buried her face in her hands.
‘I should have told him. For the past two years I had plenty of opportunities but didn’t. When I get out of this, I won’t run away anymore. I love you Luke,’ she thought tearfully.
