Chapter 10
The silence from the Avicks clan made the men in the pit weary. They could no longer see Jason nor hear his breathing. Ted Frost sent him on a mission of death. He was to plant a small explosive device in the egg chamber and destroy what was left of the Queen.
Harold argued against such a move. He felt it would bring about their deaths faster if they caused such an infraction. The Captain dismissed the Doctor telling him this was a military decision and he no longer had say in anything anymore.
“You have killed my son.” Harold glared at Ted resting in a corner of the pit.
Ted opened his eyes. Now Harold showed his fatherly side when all was lost. It was all for show to get the men in the pit back on his side. Ted frowned at the angry Doctor.
“Your greed has killed every child of this colony and the wives of the men here.”
Harold, Leonard, and Rheese noticed the men surrounding them. “We did what we thought was right.”
“You did what you wanted all the time. Jason knew what you were about and he was right. You are crazy and you are going to kill us all.”
Ted stood and stretched. “I am going to save what is left of this colony and get the fuck off this planet. You and your group can stay here and communicate with the bastards I do not care.”
“No you do not understand what I was trying to do.”
Ted smiled and looked at the men surrounding the good doctor and his associates. “Why don’t you tell Frank what you were trying to do and why Helen had to die for it?”
Harold glared at the Captain. “If it was so wrong why did you help us?”
“You controlled the robots and they controlled everything in the colony. We needed time to find their weakness and we did.”
“You found a weakness in the robots?” Rheese asked annoyed that his design could have one.
Ted shook his head. “You are an amazing group of people. You do not give a damn about the lives of anyone here only yourselves. Jason and I worked tirelessly on this and we are going to live along with the rest of the colony.”
Noise from up above signaled that Jason had returned. He peered over the side and nodded at Ted. They refrained from communication since the Queen’s robot monitored them so closely. They resorted to sign language a basic form of communication that the army learned incase of machine revolt.
The Robot beside the sleeping Queen watched in fascination at the communication between the two humans. He was unsure what they were doing but decided to investigate. He walked towards Jason and the communication stopped.
“What are you doing human?”
Jason kept his back to the Robot trying to conceal the detonator from his scanners. “We are trading recipes you fucking bastard.”
“Such language is not necessary but your species has not evolved to realize that.”
Jason kept his back turned and the robot walked away. He slid the device into his boot and slid down the side of the pit.
“We are not to be here Kel’her‘re we are off course turn back.”
The angry clicking coming from the General made the others on the bridge stop their duties and listen. The Elder’s son ignored the advice and continued towards the forbidden planet. He was in charge not some cook’s son that became general.
“When we bring back the bounty of this planet Jai’n I will be sure to tell all that you were against this.”
“You have no idea what lives on this planet. Your father knows and that is why it is forbidden!”
Chuckling came from Kel’her’re as he turned from the growling Yautja. “You are not the one in charge Jai’n and that is the only reason for your disobedience.”
“You will kill everyone if you go to this planet.”
Kel’her’re clicked his mandibles in amusement as he walked away from the angry General. “Plot a course for the planet and prepare for a hunt.”
“Yes Kel’her’re.”
Jai’n angrily walked from the bridge to go prepare for battle. He would bring as many of his clan back with him as he could or he would be the only one left to tell the Elder why his son died.
The Predator ship quietly flew over the Avick’s clan territory and onwards towards its rival’s land. Their scanners picked up activity over the hard water and continued in that direction. The invisible craft softly landed in a forest of ice-covered trees and shut its engines down.
Kel’her’re raised his mandibles in a smile as the General stood behind him with an angry expression.“This will be my greatest victory Jai’n and you will be remembered for your failure.”
The General remained silent and placed on his helmet. Kel’her’re turned back towards the rest of his Hunters a group of twenty and raised his spear.
“Let the hunt begin.”
A roar of agreement came from those assembled except the General.
Redd stood at the entrance of the cave listening to the sounds of the night. He could tell it was night from the reduced heat in the air. He knew the human was moving around in the cave and that the strange smelling device he carried would mean harm to his clan but he would let him keep it. He would wait for his chance to strike.
He felt something in the air fly over him. The wind from the object told him it was very large and not of flesh.
They had come. Their old enemy from all time had arrived. Redd felt the energy continue across the river. They would attack their rival first and then come for them. Redd turned from the entrance and headed back towards his mother and Leanna.
Something was happening above they could tell from the hissing of the queen and the robots sudden movement towards the pit.
“It seems that we have an unwelcome visitor.” Ted said watching the warrior aliens moving towards the weaken Queen.
Harold began smiling. ”It is the Yautja that they fear and they know with the Queen weak they will lose this battle.”
The men in the pit began smiling sensing that they would be liberated by the Avicks clan enemy.
Jason frowned at their smiling faces. “Are you forgetting someone?”
They heard the steps coming towards the edge of the pit and looked up to see the shiny black head of Redd looking down at them. He snarled at them and raised his tail.
The smile on the faces of the men faded when the other warriors joined Redd around the pit. They knew they would fight to defend their Queen as they had done before. They also knew that they would not leave the pit, well not alive.
