Chapter 10: Bon Apetit

Chapter 10: Bon Apétit!

Dawn came quickly and without much more mental action for the girls. They were able to rest in peace for at least a few hours. This tranquility was short lived because in each one of their rooms, three goblins were jumping on the girls, cackling, screaming, and enjoying tormenting the barely conscious girls.

“Shove off!” screamed an irritated Kerri as she flipped her feet off her bed allowing the overjoyed goblins to fall to the floor. She looked out the windows and noticed that the sky was still dark, “Man what kind of place is this that gets up before the sun is high in the sky?” she whined. Kerri walked to the dresser, as did Keaira, and noticed that there were clothes neatly piled up, much like those provided to Sarah. The difference was that Keaira’s clothing was all deep red, black and dark blue. In Kerri’s case, they were all orange, golden yellow and red. On top of this pile, all three young women found a neatly folded note which read:

“[Name of the girl it was addressed to], you will begin your day in the kitchen.
(The goblins that woke you will lead you there.) From there, the kitchen staff
will inform you of your tasks. The goblins will be back to fetch you in half an
hour and I’d be ready if I were you.
Signed, Jareth, Goblin King

For now they took this seriously and knew that to exact their revenge they had to bide their time. After they read the note, they took a quick bath and dressed themselves in the nice clothing that the king had given them. It wasn’t long after until their little guides brought them to destination.

Keaira, having been in the room directly across from the kitchen, stood there awaiting her friends, whom arrived 15 minutes later, and the upcoming task. Upon noticing each other, a group hug quickly formed of good mornings and good lucks.

The reunion was hastily broken up by a loud clearing of the throat. Curious as to what made that noise; they looked around until their eyes fell to the floor and onto Zana, the goblin.

“His majesty wants you to prepare breakfast for him and his guests. The food and the recipe is on the counter, make it quickly or he might just dump you into the Bog of Eternal Stench as he would us.” Zana scuffled away without another word.

“Let’s get to work girls…” Keaira stated.

“…on sabotage!” finished Kerri. Keaira and Sarah looked incredulously at Kerri like she had just spoken in a foreign language and wasn’t aware of it.

“What are you planning?” Sarah asked, positively intrigued. Kerri merely motioned towards the counter where the food and the recipe lay. Picking up the piece of paper, she quickly read the ingredients and saw that it was for regular pancakes. Her face twisted into a sly grin and she said: “Let the sabotage begin!” The girls started throwing all the normal ingredients, flour, milk, oil and eggs, into a big bowl. Once that was accomplished they added other random things such as hot sauce, jalapeno peppers, anything they could lay their hands on to add to the flavor. Sarah was about to poor their disturbing concoction to be cooked before Kerri motioned for her to stop. Curious once more, the girls observed Kerri questioningly as she stuck her hand into her pocket and pulled out a small package. As she unrolled it, they could see that it was Ex-Lax.

“What in the world are you doing with that here?” Keaira asked, seriously confused.

“I never leave home without it!” she said as they all started laughing. When they had regained their calmness, they removed a few caplets, crushing them to dust and stirring it into the wonderful meal. Without further ado, they cooked the feast for their wonderful host and his guests. They divided the “pancakes” equally between three plates, which they each took one and walked towards the door leading to the dinning room.

At the far end of the room was a long table where there were six chairs, three being occupied by men. Jareth was one of them and then there was a blond man, Griffith and a black haired man, Gareth, all seeming to discuss politics. As the girls walked towards the table, they were consumed in conversation that they didn’t really pay attention to the table and the people they were going to serve.

Upon arrival, Jareth, seated at on end of the table, greeted the girls.

“It is high time you arrive. We will have to work on your punctuality.” He affirmed. Sarah advanced with the plate that she was holding and placed it in front of the Goblin King. His hand then rose to point to the two other men who had their backs turned from their servants. First was Griffith, “Keaira, Sarah and Kerri this is my brother Griffith.” He turned his head to face the girls. When Kerri’s gaze settled on him, she nearly fell backwards in shock. There was no possible way that her dream had actually foretold the future. Her mind was racing for some sort of logic, anything to make this sight make some sense to her. She was frozen in shock but no one seemed to notice a thing but Griffith himself. This was because he was aware of the dream that she had had the previous evening because he was the one who had sent it, to make his progress a slight bit easier. Griffith interrupted the seemingly interminable silence.

“May I have my breakfast? I seem to have been patient enough.” He said indignantly.

“Of course, Kerri would you be capable of handing Griffith his meal?” Jareth asked. Keaira had to nudge her sister back to life. Just as soon, she was walking over to the familiar man and gave him his food.
With that, Jareth resumed with the introductions and directed towards the other man “And this is my other brother Gareth.” When he turned around to face them, Keaira was the one that was now awestruck…”There’s no way…” she thought to herself. A slight grin drew upon her face which she quickly erased. Without hesitation, she brought the plate of “pancakes” she was holding towards him.

“H…Hi.” She stuttered very low, out of shyness and slight intimidation. He didn’t say a word, he completely ignored her. She wasn’t surprised, she knew that her dream had to have been nothing but a dream; it was just pure coincidence that he was the one in her dream. He looked malicious and self-absorbed and that was probably what he was, she had created an illusion based on pure emotions, without logical judgment. She walked away, resolved with the thoughts she had just convinced herself.

“We are not done here.” Jareth informed. “Please sit. We might require your assistance throughout the meal and it will be much simpler if you join us.”

“No, that’s okay.” Sarah said. “We have our own food ready back in the kitchen. Plus, we wouldn’t want to impede on your visit and your business conversations.” They walked away at the fastest pace that they could so that they could enjoy the upcoming scene at a safe distance.

When they arrived behind the swinging kitchen door, Keaira, Kerri and Sarah, left the door slightly ajar as they peered at the sight that was laid out before them. They were chatting for a few minutes before anything that was of any interest to them happened. Jareth was the first to take a bit of his odd breakfast. They watched as he took a bite, brought it to his mouth and began chewing it. At that point they had all at least taken one bite. The funny part was when their face went from entertainment to pure disgust to the Oh-My-God-I-Think-I’m-Going-To-Be-Sick face. They seemed to have difficulty swallowing and didn’t seem to move once they did. Suddenly three loud gurgles were heard echoing throughout the massive hall. In the next moment, quick as a flash, the three men were running away with a loud screeching of the seats backing up on the hardwood floor.

As soon as they were out of sight and earshot, the girls shut the door completely and doubled over in laughter. They couldn’t breathe for an eternity, sore in every possible place.

“Great job girls!” Kerri screamed as she raised her hands to the height of her head, waiting and receiving the high fives from Keaira and Sarah. Laughter quickly took over again and they bent over trying to rid themselves of the laughing cramps they were having. All fun died away when a sinister feeling crept through the room and six boots appeared before them.
