Epilogue

The pregnancy had been tough, but the minute she laid eyes on the tiny brown eyed baby, she knew she could never love anything more. She moved to the out skirts of the city, thankfully her previous job took her back immediately, and gave her maternity leave almost immediately. Her mother and father located a small house out side of town, not much square footage, but it had a little yard, where her father set up a swing set and slide. Her sister, Sarah, moved to Gotham so she could move in with Arien and help take care of growing Colt.

"Arien!" Arien climbed out of bed rushing to the living room where her sister sat bouncing a on her knee. As soon as she enter the room, the boys head craned and let out a squeal as he located his mother. His plump arms reached up, fingers grabbing towards Arien as she reached down swooping him up in her arms. Colt laughed as his mother bounced him up and down bending at the hip to dip him down, and then pulling him up. She reached up smoothing the crown of dark brown hair planting a kiss on his head.

"Sarah, why's Colt so wet?" Arien lifted the baby up to her shoulder examining his wet pants.

"We were outside." Sarah whispered quietly. "Arien?"

"Hm?"

"Promise you won't get mad?" Arien looked up from her attention to Colt's soaked rear.

"What happened?"

"Okay we were outside playing, right? I heard my phone ring, and I mean come on, Colt's not going to be able to crawl to the road faster than I can run! So I ran to the house to get my phone. I picked it up and I ran immediately outside! I promise I did!"

"Get to the point." Arien tapped her toes looking over at Colt and shaking her head.

"When I came back out there was a man."

"A man?" Arien shot her sister an odd look.

"Ya, he was just sitting there talking with Colt, and when he saw me he waved! Like it was no big deal to be sitting in someone else's yard! Anyway, I went out to get Colt and he turned, hopped in some van, and left."

"Maybe he was a delivery guy, did he leave a package?" Arien said her brows knot together.

"Not…exactly." Arien looked down her eyes following her sisters to a stiff piece of paper crumpled in her child's hands. Carefully, Arien pulled the paper from Colt's hands to her surprise with little protest. Her eyes widened as her finger straightened the object out.

"Sarah."

"Ya?"

"Call Commissioner Gordon." Arien flipped the card over, a joker, to reveal a message marked in black sharpie. "Then pack our stuff. Tell Mom we will be there in a little bit. " Arien rushed to the back grabbing her and Colts belongings things necessary for a long trip, and began shoving them in a suit case. Reaching under her nightstand she retrieved, oddly enough, a Colt 1911, a small hand gun her father had left for her their first night in the new house. Making sure it was loaded, she turned on the safety and stuffed it in her purse. Gathering her things they rushed to the car, leaving behind the crumpled card with it's three word message.
