Chapter 12

He was there again.

In blank space he stood in front of her, darkness contrasting against light.

“Don’t hurt me anymore,” he whispered, long slender fingers brushing against the side of her
face. His eyes were child-like at that moment.

“Hurt you?” Sarah pondered out loud. “I would never........”

He tore away from her, a crystal suddenly appearing in his hand.

“My darling girl,” he smirked. “You truly are such a naive little thing.”

She watched as he threw the crystal into the blankness and it tore apart their world.

Waking up in a cold sweat, Sarah leapt out of bed, still fully dressed. The dream was quickly
forgotten and replaced by the previous day’s events. How she had ran to him. How he had told
her the truth. How he had hurt her. How the last thing she saw before she fell asleep was his face
in the moonlight....

‘You’re a fool,’ she scoffed at herself and peeled off her clothes, moving into the steaming water.

Her cheeks burned with shame.

He knew her so well she had not even realized. She was selfish. She was all the things he had said
and she could not deny it. She tried so hard to deny it, but all she could give him were her tears of
bitter truth and shame.

What was this about him that caught her attention? She knew and it was time that she admitted it
to herself.

She loved him. It was simple and pure.

She loved him for the way he treated, and mistreated, her. She loved him for his kindness and his
cruelty. For everything that made Jareth, Jareth and for everything that made him the ruthless and
cunning King that he was.

She felt sick to her stomach. She had admitted this to him. She had told him she loved him, but he
simply scoffed at her. To him, she was a child in his eyes. Yet was she really? Does one seduce a
child in the gardens? Does one chain a child and seduce them?

A tear slipped down her already wet cheek.

How she wished for a normal child hood, to be ignorant of all of this.

She wanted to be home even if she hated her stepmother.

She wanted Toby and Dad and Merlin.

She wanted her room.

She felt too young for this and perhaps she was. But she knew that in the Labyrinth one matures
and grows much faster than in the world above. They have to in order to survive, especially if they
have dealings with the Goblin King on a regular basis. Her tears almost never fazed him, except
yesterday. It was his moment of weakness. She replayed it in her mind. It was beautiful.

She would cry a million tears just to have him look at her like that again. That look of undying
love, hurt, and compassion. It was something she had never seen before, but was ever so eager to
relive again.

Drying herself off and slipping into new clothes that were already laid out for her, she walked out
of the bathroom and went to her vanity, running a comb through her damp tangled hair. When she
was to her own liking, she opened her door.

And to her surprise, the Goblin King stood smiling at her.

“Good morning, Sarah,” he said. “Sleep well?”

“Well enough,” she smiled. “I was going to get breakfast.”

“So was I,” he smirked. “May I join you or would you like me to sit on the other side of the
room?”

Sarah laughed. “No, no, you may join me. Just as long as you don’t chew with your mouth open.”

“I would never-,” he began, but she laughed again.

“I was joking,” she smiled. “Really, you need to lighten up. You’re so serious.”

“Your jokes are so very crude,” he smirked, “Are all the jokes from above ground like the ones
that you tell me?” Sarah rolled her eyes.

“Well at least we have jokes,” she countered.

“The Underground has jokes!” Jareth insisted. “We just don’t like to tell them.”

“Why not?” emerald eyes turned to him inquisitively.

“Because the ones that we tell are quite lethal,” he replied quietly.

“Lethal?” Sarah’s eyes widened. “You mean deadly? Your jokes are so funny that they kill
people?”

“People, dwarves, fairies,” he waved them off with his hand. “Anyone unfortunate enough to hear
one will die.”

“That’s horrible,” her eyebrows furrowed. “No wonder this world is like it is. There is no
laughter.”

“But there is,” the King disagreed. “Jokes are not the only source of laughter.”

“Then what is another source?” she asked.

“Jesters,” he answered simply and walk past her into the dining hall.

“Not funny,” she ground her teeth at him, eyes flashing.

“Oh yes,” he smiled. “It is. Now sit down.”

To Sarah’s surprise, the breakfast was a pleasant one. They actually had a decent conversation
about a book that both enjoyed from the Aboveground.

“Oh please, the relationship between Hamlet and his mother was obviously quite incestuous,” he
smirked at her.

“No it wasn’t!” Sarah protested. “They were just close.”

“No mother and son are that close,” he said and then huffed under his breath, “Trust me.”  She
laughed again.

“Well it is certainly not how I would look at it,” she smiled down at her half empty plate.

After breakfast, they walked down to the gardens together, talking as if they were old friends who
had much to catch up on. Yet it was not their last breakfast together. In fact, after several months,
it was routine that they would meet and spend most of the day together (unless Jareth had work
to do), simply talking and laughing.

She had actually started to see him as a friend. She trusted him with all her heart, yet even despite
their friendship, she could not make herself bring up her love for him.

One night however, he brought her out to the garden to watch the fairies in their courtship ritual
dance.

“They always gather here for some reason,” Jareth muttered, apparently annoyed at this. “As if
they don’t have anywhere else to meet.”

“Well your garden is beautiful,” Sarah had said absently, looking in awe at the display before her.
It was a beautiful gathering, each fairy emitting a soft golden glow that glittered as they floated
along in no particular pattern. A pair of fairies floated too close to Jareth and he flicked at them,
sending them veering off in curses and little shaking fists.

“Jareth!” Sarah glared at him. “That was unnecessary.”

“It was very necessary, my dear,” he said cooly. “How else will they learn?” She rolled her eyes
and continued to watch.

“It’s so beautiful,” whispered Sarah. Suddenly, she felt Jareth’s fingers on her face, gently moving
her to look at him.

“Beauty compliments beauty,” he whispered to her as he closed the gap between them, his lips
practically touching hers. “Beauty deserves beauty.”

His kiss was soft and gentle, yet there was a need, a hunger that she felt only she could quench.
One hand gently cupped her face as they kissed and the other rested on the small of her back,
pressing her into him.

Yet she kissed back with a passion twice as fierce. Long had she waited for this kiss. Too long.
But no more would she have to wait. She wanted this. She needed this. Just as he did.

He pulled away, still looking at her, and then snapped his fingers. She gave him a questioning
look.

“So curious eyes will be averted,” he said softly, bringing her down the ground. She felt a burning
desire that she had never experienced. He seemed unnaturally beautiful by the light of the fairies.
His eyes met hers and she almost gasped at their intensity, shying her own away. Yet his fingers
on her chin forced her to meet his gaze.

His fingers slowly undid the ties on her dress, but she did not care. She merely wanted him and
went to work trying to figure out how to disrobe him.

“Don’t bother,” Jareth laughed softly, pushing her hands away. Quickly he had her down to her
nothing. She shyly covered her breasts with one hand. He grabbed the wrist connected to this
hand and brought it behind her back, marveling at her delicate beauty.

With a flick of the wrist, his clothes seemed to disappear from his body. Laying her down gently,
his mouth descended to her breast, where he whispered to her, “Watch the fairies.” It would have
been quite a humorous thing to say, except for the fact that there really were fairies above them
and it was a beautiful sight.

Sarah groaned softly as his tongue lapped at the flesh of her nipples and then descended lower still
until she felt his breath on her inner thigh. As his tongue invaded her, she moaned, still obeying
him, still watching the fairies as he continued give her his kiss. When she was writhing, he had
stopped, much to her objection, and spread her legs gently.

He traced long fingers up and down her inner thighs, making her want him even more.

The Goblin King brought up one hand to move her damp hair out of her eyes.

“I will be as gentle as I can,” he whispered to her. “I love you.”

“I love you,” she said to him, her eyes filled with desire. Positioning himself, he slowly entered
her. Watching her bite her lip at the pain and furrowing her brow, he found passion and a burning
desire in her pain. Yet when he would easily begin thrusting as he did with others, he had
promised her gentle kindness and that is exactly what he would give her. Slowly and gently, he
rolled his hips forward into her and then back, a gentle pace, a slow pace. And one that made her
moan in pleasure. As his motions increased, so did the volume of her pleasure and she voiced that
pleasure, to his delight. She felt like she was at the edge of reason, of space, of time. There was
nothing like it.

Both succumbed to release within seconds and lay in each others arms, enjoying the sight of the
fairies and each other’s company and warmth. It felt good to lay naked next to him and feel
comfortable.

Secretly, Sarah wanted to stay there forever. With him. With the fairies. In that garden. She
wanted to stay and live happily ever after, for after all wasn’t that the end of every fairy tale?

Yet while Sarah was dreaming, Jareth contemplated his actions from here on. Would he truly
break her now? Now that their flame was ignited? Or would he make her his queen? Would he sit
with her for eternity and forgive her for her sins against him? Or would he get his revenge?

His mind burned with questions and in that moment, he decided exactly what he was going to do.
