Chapter 12

The low growl that issued by the door drew Nyx’s attention, and she looked up, seeing the two Predators that had just entered the room. A red flush saturating her face, she gasped and scrambled for something to cover herself up with.

“Get out!” she cried. She watched as Teddy took a few steps towards her before he was jerked back by the older Yautja. She watched in shock as Li’ct-ha turned and smashed his fist into the face of his mentor, and went for the wicked-looking knife that hung from his belt.

Blade roared and grabbed the reaching arm, moving so fast that Nyx almost had trouble following it. Before any of them could blink, Teddy was thrown from the room and into the wall across the corridor. Blade paused in the now open doorway, tilting his head in her direction.

“Dress yourself. I will be back shortly.” He commanded sternly. His tone reminded her of her father when he was angry and restraining himself from doing something stupid. Nyx nodded as he exited the room, her body shaking as she grabbed her clothing and pulled it on. For a moment, the brand on her forehead burned, and she took in a hissing breath.

“Stupid. Their sense of smell is stronger, and their nature is more primal. Stupid, Nyxlyn.” She chided herself roughly, slipping the shirt over her head and pulling it down over her stomach. She gave thought to how bad it could have been for her if Blade had not have been there. A small voice in the back of her mind put in that it wouldn’t have been so bad; just a nice roll in the furs with the creature haunting her dreams, but Nyx knew better. She wasn’t stupid. If the sheer size of either of them were anything to go on, she would more than likely be torn apart in the act no matter how careful, and from the sound of it, Teddy had had no intention of being careful.

She shivered and noticed that she had been pacing. Halting her repetitive walking, she glanced over at the door, noticing the food that Blade had dropped when he had gone to restrain the Youngblood. With a sigh, she grabbed the fruit off the floor and shined it on her shirt, taking a bite out of it as she wandered back to the bed. She had a feeling that Blade would verbally rip into her as soon as he got himself straight.

Zazin dragged the angry Youngblood behind him, ignoring the thrashing of the smaller Yautja. A few of the others that passed regarded them cautiously, one of them even stopping to ask what had happened to make the young one go so insane. Zazin remained silent, still trying to banish the scent and sight from his mind. She was not of their kind, and while his curiousity about the human race was vast, that was an area that he couldn’t let himself wonder about.

He reached his own quarters and pushed Li’ct-ha inside, locking the door behind him via code so that he couldn’t get back out.

“LET ME OUT!” the Youngblood roared, going for the door. Zazin allowed him to pass and sat down, one of his clawed hands tugging at a dreadlock as he calmed himself.

“She is too small, Li’ct-ha. You will kill her if I allow it.” He stated, turning red eyes onto the other Yautja. That seemed to make the Youngblood pause. He stopped and turned to stare at Zazin silently.

“I know well enough that you saw her, Li’ct-ha. She was on display. There is no way she could take a Yautja male and live through it. She is too fragile, and we are too rough. Even if you were to go into it as carefully as possible, we lose our control too easily. She. Would. Die.” He emphasized.

The Youngblood seemed to slump then, head drooping low as he stared at the floor. His chest still rose and fell, but Zazin could see the effort he was making to reorder himself.

“She couldn’t handle it, young one. It is best to just forget those thoughts of her.” He said as gently as he could. The Youngblood nodded after a moment.

“My apologies, Zazin. I lost my head.”

“I am well aware of that. Human women are always in heat, and their pheromones are strong; much sweeter and more enticing that what we are normally used to. Perhaps it would be better if you no longer see her.” Zazin said. Li’ct-ha looked at him, his eyes suddenly fierce, and shook his head.

“I will not abandon this. I swore I would stay by your side and hers! I keep my word.”

Zazin stood from his seat and clapped his shoulder, gripping it tightly. “Then keep her mortality in mind, even when it is difficult. You swore to keep her safe, and that means keeping her safe from yourself. If we have another situation like this again with your losing control, I will make you stay away. You are a good Youngblood, Li’ct-ha, but I will not risk it, especially with Paya’s mark on her brow. Now stay here while I go discuss what happened in there with her.

>.< Oh my god, it’s been forever. I know, I know, you guys know ALL ABOUT how long it’s been, and I’m so sorry for making you wait. Unfortunately, life happens and there is nothing that can be done. I’ve lost two grandparents within two months, and gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl after being on bed rest for a month and a half. Needless to say, I’ve been just a tiny bit distracted and stressed, and not at all in the frame of mind to write something for you.

Because it’s taken me so long, It might take me a couple chapters to get back into the swing of things with this fic, and I’m sorry the chapter is so short and shitty. >.< Just bare with me a little while longer and I promise it will get better. I just wanted to give you something, even if it was just a little something.

I will try to get another chapter up soon, and I will be posting in my blog more often! This includes when the new chapters will be up, which will again be posted on a weekly basis.

Much love,

Fires
