Chapter 15 - Surprises
Cold water splashed over his prone form and he opened his eyes sharply in shock. Oria stood fully dressed holding a bucket which had once held water and was now distinctly empty with the water over him. Wiping the beads of water from his eyelashes and beard he glared at her threateningly. Being soaked with ice cold water first thing in the morning was not his idea of what waking up entailed.
“I did warn you.” Oria smirked at his insulted expression and lowered the empty bucket.
“You know it’s rude to awaken a man when he’s sleeping. Plus you just wet the bed.” She raised an eyebrow fighting back a grin.
“It’ll dry out, get up now Sparrow. I’ve got another bucket much colder than that one if you need another wake up call.” She pointed down to the one at her feet. Jack stumbled to his feet half-dazed but intent on not being sloshed any further with icy water.
“I see why Mr Gibbs says it’s bad luck to have a woman aboard.” She dropped the bucket onto the floor and stalked towards him.
“Next time I could always let sleeping dogs lie but where would the fun be in that?” She pressed her lips to his gently, “Savvy?”
“Well best wake me up more often then.” Oria chuckled and stepped away carefully extracting herself from his grasp to toss his clothes at him.
“What, those activities over already?” Oria glared at him pointedly and nodded towards the windows where the sun was already out of sight.
“It’s nearly noon, Will is going to be having kittens if you don’t hurry up. We’ve both been up since dawn listening to you snore away down here.” Jack grinned as he buckled his trousers back about his hips and swaggered about a bit still half asleep.
“Great, I love kittens.” She laughed and strode back up deck shaking her head. He followed shortly after slamming his hat on his head and grasped Oria’s as he passed the desk.
“Oy, girl.” He tossed the now rather battered hat at her and watched as his throw fell short. She bounced over the railings landing lightly on her feet with the hat on her head. She smirked cockily as she corrected it jauntily and jogged back up the steps to the helm. Jack scowling at her as she stood by the helm, one hand resting lazily on it, “No antics like that at this time of the morning, my minds’ not quite keeping up with things just yet.” She laughed sarcastically a mocking grin on her face.
“Jack your mind can’t keep up with a snail at any point in time, drunk or otherwise.” He pointed a finger at her in mock threat and headed up the steps swaying with the ship as it rolled over the oceans’ waves.
“You pay attention to your Captain lass or you’ll be getting into trouble.” She grinned as he stepped up to take the helm and pressed her body against his tightly. The heat of the day nothing compared to what passed between them. The flash of unspoken promise was in both of their eyes.
“Mmm… I can’t wait.” Jack hid a grin as she brushed past him temptingly, her hand grazing over his crotch none too lightly. Will was staring but seemed to have failed to notice anything or at least hadn’t seen the lingering hand. Jack watched with a smirk as she jogged down the steps to meet Will and led him away from the helm and towards the mast instructing him on some such task about the ship. He almost regretted getting to Tortuga so soon, another night alone like last night would have been more than welcome in his opinion.
:/
“We aim for that one.” They pushed their way through the increasingly rowdy crowd of drunks and pleasure women and stopped in the side alley, Jack was smiling, “I know that smell.” Will wrinkled his nose in distaste.
“That is pig Jack.” Jack grinned more widely and glanced further down the alley.
“Oh no. It’s something much worse… Gibbs.” Will raised an eyebrow and glanced back at Oria.
“One of his companions on a ship a few years ago. Best get those buckets.” Oria filled him in swiftly and pointed to the pair of buckets to their right, Jack picked up one with a nod and Will picked up the other as they stepped around the back of the inn to a pig sty. Jack pointed to where a bearded man lay back against three pigs all of which were dozing contentedly.
“Right, I’ll throw this one to wake him up, when he stands up you throw that one and we should be able to breathe in his company without too much distress.” Will nodded as Jack launched a bucket at Gibbs and the man squealed as loud as the pigs sitting up quickly and brandishing his rum bottle furiously.
:/
“Anyways where’s my drink Jack.” The pirate grinned and led the group around the side of the tavern, Oria froze her eyes wide. Jack paused and glanced back, he followed her gaze to where a man and woman were stood. They looked out of place, dressed in elegant clothing of the upper classes and they were walking serenely towards Oria. Jack instinctively stepped back to stand closer, a frown on his face. What would two ‘upstanding’ people want with her? Oria shook her head in disbelief and pointed at them dumbly.
“What are you doing here?” The man nodded to the woman.
“Returning something belonging to you.”
