chapter 16
A/N: once again thank you all for the wonderful reviews…they really do encourage me to keep writing. Now that Elizabeth knows Miriam loves Will she lives in constant fear of being found out….but even under such dangerous circumstances she can’t stay away from Jack. Their affair heats up even more as her marriage continues to unravel. Things take a drastic turn when Miriam finds herself alone with Will at the smithy overnight as they have to stay there to ride out a sudden heavy rainstorm. Please read and review!
Elizabeth scowled as her tea colored eyes followed the pretty red haired young woman as she brought in a basket of clothes that had been hanging out to dry on the clothes line. She was humming some ridiculous song to herself as she went into the sitting room to sit and fold up the garments before putting them away. Elizabeth walked into the sitting room and went over to the bookcase pretending to search for a book to read as she continued to watch Miriam. It had been two weeks since she had secretly overheard the young maid confess her love for Will. Miriam’s green eyes shifted from the clothes she was folding over to where Elizabeth stood with her hands on her hips as she browsed through the bookcase.
“Looking for anything in particular Miss Elizabeth?”
Rolling her eyes at Miriam’s sugary sweet tone of voice before plastering on a fake smile as she turned around to face her before replying just as sickeningly sweet.
“Oh…yes I was looking for the book about Captain Sparrow…might you know where it is?”
“Oh yes ma’am…I believe it’s upstairs in your father’s study…shall I go and get it for you?”
“No…it won’t be necessary…I’m perfectly capable of fetching a book myself…besides you have plenty of work to do.”
Without another word Elizabeth walked out of the room to head upstairs to her father’s study to get the book she hadn’t really been looking for. Miriam rolled her eyes as soon as Elizabeth was out of the room before getting back to folding up the clothes in the basket on the coffee table in front of her. The butler Alistair Cooke entered the room with a package in his hands looking rather frazzled as he approached her.
“Alistair…you look positively horrible. What’s the matter with you?”
“This just came for Master Turner…it’s the new deed for his smithy.”
“And?”
“And it has to have his signature on it to be returned to the bank by this evening!”
“Oh no…he won’t be home until dark.”
“Now you see why I look positively horrible…if Master Turner doesn’t turn the deed into the bank with his signature today then I’m afraid he runs the risk of losing the smithy!”
“Give it to me Alistair.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I’m going to take it to him at the smithy now…and then I’ll drop it by the bank.”
“Oh thank you Miriam…you’re a saint…God bless you child!”
Nodding Miriam took the sealed envelope as she headed towards the door of the sitting room. She turned back around and glanced at the basket of clothes before replying.
“Finish that for me Alistair?”
“Of course dear…hurry now!”
“Don’t worry I’m on my way.”
Miriam left the mansion quickly hitching up her skirts as she jogged to the stables to get one of the horses. Saddling up the older gray mare that was named Molly she climbed onto her and gave her a gentle nudge to get going. Leaving the stables quickly she noticed the skies were looking a nasty shade of charcoal and the winds had picked up quite noticeably. No matter if it started raining she just had to get that deed to Will for him to sign so that he didn’t lose his smithy! Miriam clutched the envelope tightly as she held onto the reigns on the horse to keep up the steady pace she had set to reach the smithy before the rain came. Her heart was racing in her chest as the horse galloped quickly through the narrow streets of Port Royal it’s hooves clicking loudly on the cobblestones.
Finally she reached the smithy and pulled back on Molly’s reigns to make her stop. Climbing down carefully out of the saddle Miriam guided Molly into the small stable that had been added onto the smithy by Will a couple years ago. Closing Molly in the stall she headed towards the side entry of the smithy. Stopping at the door she quickly smoothed out the wrinkles in her light blue cotton dress before hastily untying her apron and leaving it on the stool that was next to the door. She ran her fingers through her reddish curls before deciding that she looked at least somewhat presentable. Figuring that Will would be hard at work and banging away at a piece of steel which would keep him from being able to hear her knock she simply opened the door and walked into the smithy. The room was filled with the sound of iron colliding against steel as she closed the door behind her. Miriam still clutched the envelope in her left hand as she looked around the smithy. Finally her green eyes settled on Will. He had taken his shirt off and was steadily banging away at a piece of steel. She felt her heart jump into her throat as she continued to look at him. Beads of sweat had collected across his muscular back and were rolling down his finely chiseled muscles. Miriam’s cheeks flamed bright red when she felt a rush of heat go straight between her thighs.
After a moment Will stopped banging away at the steel and put his mallet down on the workbench that was a few feet away from where he had been working. He stretched his arms over his head before wiping the sweat from his brow. Miriam cleared her throat to get his attention making his head whip around quickly. His dark eyes widened before a smile stretched across his handsome face when he took notice of her.
“Well hello Miriam…this is quite a surprise.”
“Oh well thank you sir…I mean Will.”
“Is everything alright at home? Is Elizabeth alright?”
Her smile faltered a moment at his mention of Elizabeth before she quickly recovered it. It always had to be about Elizabeth didn’t it? Nodding she held up the envelope as she walked towards him.
“Yes…everything is fine at home. But the deed for the smithy came for you today…it needs your signature and has to be returned to the bank this evening.”
“And you brought it all the way out here for me to sign?”
“Well yes…I couldn’t let it wait until tomorrow. Because if you’re late in returning the signed deed then the bank could take possession of the smithy.”
“I appreciate your concern Miriam…but you really didn’t have to come all the way out here…the weather is taking a turn for the worse.”
“It was a chance I was willing to take.”
Will smiled as he poured some water from the tin pitcher into a small tin cup and took a drink. Pouring some more he offered it to Miriam who smiled and just shook her head. Shrugging he drank the water himself. Suddenly the quiet of the room was disturbed by the sound of raindrops heavily pelting the rooftop and the howling of the wind as it started to pick up. Frowning Will set down the cup and walked over to the window. Opening it he poked his head outside and looked around. The skies had turned a dark grayish green and the wind was blowing violently. Heavy sheets of rain were beginning to blanket the entire town. Shutting the window Will walked back over to the join Miriam.
“Well it doesn’t look like we’re going anywhere anytime soon.”
“How bad is it?”
“Bad enough that I’m not going to let you leave the smithy right now….so you can just make yourself comfortable because you’re going to be my guest for a while.”
Miriam smiled as she sat down on the wooden bench that was against the far wall of the smithy. Will pulled his shirt back on and joined her on the bench.
“So what should we do to pass the time Miriam?”
“Well I’m open to suggestions.”
“Perfect…we could play a game of cards if you like?”
“That sounds lovely.”
Smiling Will grabbed an old and rather worn looking deck of cards from his workbench. He sat back down on the bench next to Miriam and began dealing out the cards. Soon the two were playing cards and laughing like two little kids. Will couldn’t help but notice how lovely the sound of Miriam’s laughter was. It was like the tinkling of a dozen little bells and her green eyes danced every time she laughed. His eyes shifted to her lips watching them as she spoke. They were so plump and pink and soft looking and he found himself imagining how incredible they would feel pressed against his own lips. Letting his eyes shift past her lips he followed her slender neck down to the elegant slope of her small perky breasts. The tops of them were spilling out of the sweetheart neckline of her simple cotton maid’s dress. There must have been a slight chill in the air because he could make out the little hard peaks of her nipples straining against the fabric of her dress. Feeling a jolt of heat rush to his loins he inhaled sharply as he shifted on the bench uncomfortably. He shouldn’t be looking at Miriam like this and having the thoughts he was having about her. Not when his wife was at home. A frown etched itself onto his face when he thought about Elizabeth. Why the hell should he feel guilty about noticing how beautiful Miriam was when Elizabeth spent all her time fawning over Jack? Miriam’s voice cut through his thoughts making him snap back to their card game.
“Will…it’s your turn…are you going to take a card?”
Suddenly not caring about the silly card game anymore he tossed his cards to the floor. Her green eyes watched them flutter carelessly to the ground. Deciding he was tired of feeling miserable and alone he made the choice to act on his impulse. And right now that impulse was screaming at him to make love to this beautiful young woman sitting next to him. Leaning over Will captured Miriam’s mouth in an unexpected kiss. It surprised her making her gasp which gave him the opportunity to slip his tongue inside her mouth. At first she resisted but then finally gave in to her desire to be with him. Slipping her tongue in his mouth she wrapped her arms around his neck leaning back against the wall as their kiss deepened. Her nipples hardened instantly the moment his palms slid over them through the fabric of her dress. Will lifted her onto his lap making her sex press against his quickly hardening erection. Miriam whimpered into Will’s mouth as she rubbed herself against his throbbing erection feeling a fresh surge of heat shoot through her body. Oh this was so wrong but God how she wanted this! She wanted to be with Will more than anything and she didn’t care that there would most certainly be severe consequences after the fact.
A/N: okay I know this is an evil place to stop…but it just makes the story that much better. So should they or shouldn’t they do it? Let me know!!
