Chapter 17 - Interruptions

Oria avoided her daughters tear stained face and met the mans’ bloodshot one straight on, she stepped forwards and froze as his finger tightened on the trigger. She couldn’t stop the fear rising painfully in her chest, wrenching her stomach apart and all but stopping her heart. Her fingers flexed at her sides, she longed to do something, she had never felt helpless before and was not enjoying the sensation one bit.

“Leave her out of this. She’s nothing to do with you.” She could hear the undercurrent of fear in her own voice, wriggling through all the syllables like some treacherous snake through grass. He was shaking his head with a grin; they both knew he had her at a disadvantage.

“She’s going to ensure that you’re a good little girl and do what you’re told. One toe out of line and I’ll send her down to the depths.” Without warning Sara elbowed him in the gut and ducked his grasp, Oria drew her pistol without thought and shot him through the heart without pause to aim. Grasping the child’s arm she drew her behind her and backed up to the side of the ship the group looking more wary but too far gone in their stupors to realise that they should really have been running. Oria really didn’t want to kill without reason in front of Sara but in a few more minutes and she wasn’t going to have a choice. She drew another pistol out and aimed roughly into the group.

“Just leave.” There was still that undertone of fear and she cursed herself, since when had she been weak enough to let fear show. The group paused as one and contemplated this option, Oria fired into the air deciding not to give them chance to gather their thoughts. The group scattered back down the plank, having lost both leaders they were no more effective than a group of headless chickens. With a sigh of relief Oria put the pistols away and knelt in front of Sara checking her over carefully, “You’re alright?”

Slowly the girl nodded her eyes still wide and opened her arms for a hug; Oria complied, quickly clasping the small frame to her tightly her eyes slipping closed as relief slowly washed away the adrenaline and fear. After a few seconds she kissed both of the girls’ cheeks gently before standing up and glancing over the deck, two bodies limply laid out blood oozing from them. Blocking Sara’s view with her body Oria took her back into the cabin and sat her on the bed.

“Stay here till I’ve cleaned up the deck.” Sara nodded sending a cascade of ebony silk fluttering in the ferocity of the nod; she was slightly stunned by the events of the day and not capable of anything else. Oria kissed her on the top of the head and headed back up to toss the bodies over the side and calm the nerves that had started vibrating furiously throughout her body. She was shaking with the loss of adrenaline and the weakness that relief always sent into a body as it relaxed from its’ tension.

Jack walked onto the deck drunkenly swaying and slipped on a wet patch landing with a shout on his backside. Will sighed and picked the flailing pirate up once more.

“Some bloody idiot’s spilled their drink.” Will nodded absently; the pirate had been saying that every three seconds whenever he saw something liquid looking on the floor. This time he didn’t continue on his way but gazed down at the slight red stain on his hand, “What?” He pushed his hand into Wills’ face, “What does that look like to you?” Will leaned back slightly so as to avoid getting whatever it was on his face.

“It looks like blood.” Jack immediately sobered up and glanced about fearfully his eyes dashing from one end of the ship to the other hastily.

“Oria? Oria!” He ran through to his cabin and skidded to a halt in the doorway; two figures were led on the bed wrapped up in each other and fast asleep next to a quietly flickering candle. He sighed in relief and crept forwards quietly, a slight grin erupting as he looked down at the pair curled up so peacefully.

A piece of silver glinted at him as he turned away and he paused looking back curiously. There about the small girls, no, he corrected himself with a faint smile, his daughter’s neck was the pendant that he had given to Oria all those years ago. He looked down at the child draped over Oria so confidently obviously completely unaware of what her mother was capable of and the fact that if it had been anyone else they would be long dead by now. The scene amused him, the lion tamed by the mouse. Slowly he sat down on the edge of the bed, Oria woke instantly her hand reaching for the dagger she always kept under the pillow, she wrinkled her nose as the stench of rum greeted her first.

“You’re drunk.” He grinned at the statement and comical sleepy expression on her face.

“No where near as much as I was a few minutes ago. Had a bit of excitement did we?” Oria frowned as some semblance of thought slowly began to drift back into consciousness. She waved a hand absently.

“Just some drunken idiots that got the wrong idea.” She decided against telling him the life threatening parts believing it was not the best idea with him half-drunk. Jack was still watching the sleeping girl, a grin on his face as he watched her dream.

“Not quite sunk in properly yet.” Oria shrugged and stretched slightly careful to keep as still as possible where she was in contact with Sara.

“It’ll come in time. What are we going to do now though?” Jack brushed a stray hair from Sara’s face and smiled gently.

“No one’ll take her here; she’ll have to come with us. We haven’t got the time to waste with rescuing young Williams’ lass. Besides she’s got two strong fighters to protect her and a crew when they arrive tomorrow morning.” Jack whispered his eyes still on the child. Oria grasped his chin and forced him to look at her, just to ensure he was thinking straight.

“Are we strong enough to keep Barbossa away and unknowing?” Jack grinned confidently and spread his arms arrogantly.

“Love I’m Captain Jack Sparrow, savvy?” Oria rolled her eyes with a slight grin and slumped back in the bed absently running her fingers through Sara’s hair.

“Well that’s reassuring, for some reason I thought I was talking to Jack Sparrow. But if it’s Captain we’re alright.” He pointed at her threateningly with a grin.

“Now just watch it.” Slowly Oria eased Sara off her and stood up stretching again as tense muscles slowly began to unwind with Jacks’ re-appearance. For some reason she no longer felt like she had to baby-sit him. He’d grown from a boy into a man and was now fully capable of handling himself without her guidance. Course that didn’t mean he was all knowing, there were still some things she could teach him and some things that he would never be mature enough to know, some things that no aging person should ever know or have to know. Lowering her arms slowly she turned to grin at him.

“Or you’ll do what?” Jack followed her carefully as she backed up towards the door; he grasped her hips and pushed her instead towards the desk.

“How about we skip the description of said punishment and get straight to the action. How quiet can we be do you think?” Oria glanced to where Sara was sleeping but the girl was well out of it. Her thighs banged into the desk and Jack pushed her further onto it, till he could stand between them and pulled her back into contact.

“Kiss me.” She whispered against his lips and he obliged swiftly, hands slowly mapping out all the familiar areas of each other softly; an astonished gasp rose from the bed and both froze. Oria glanced to where Sara was, the girl was led on her belly staring in astonishment, her eyes had once again returned to dinner plate proportions.

“Bugger me.” Jack whispered as he backed up slightly.

“I’d rather fuck you.” Oria whispered quietly before he was out of whispered hearing range; he raised an eyebrow with a pleased smirk. Wishing all the time the kid hadn’t awoken, he hadn’t thought about using the desk before now. Still there would be time for that and he would have time to plan everything he intended to do.

“Likewise pet.” They watched as Sara pointed between them, Jacks’ hands still on Oria’s hips. He snapped them away quickly as Sara pointed to them with an open mouth.

“Mama? Was Captain Jack Sparrow just… kissing… you?” Oria forced a straight face and slipped off the desk.

“Not exactly, see Jack’s your… well, perhaps he’d better tell you.” Jack glanced between the two; he felt like a child once more as he stepped forwards and knelt next to the bed. The girl was still staring at him. He grinned winningly revealing his golden teeth.

“I’m your dad Sara.”
