A Craftsman is Always Pleased
Author(s) Note: I'm sorry this is so short, and doesn't do much for the plot development, but I thought I should at least get something up, after 200+ hits, I'm sure somepeople must be wanting to read a bit.
P.S. There was a chapter posted, quite a bit different then this,(but was removed), if you read that, please read this to get a feel for the new story.
A Craftsman is Always Pleased
"Milord, you have a visitor."
William Turner stood near the door inside the large house of the Governor. Tucked under his arm was the order the Governor had requested for a ceremony to be held later in the day. It seemed that Captain Norrington was being promoted to Commodore. Will laughed silently to himself at the thought, James would be asking for Elizabeth's hand in marriage afterward and was simply on edge because of it. Will eyed the candles on the wall as he thought about Elizabeth marrying Norrington. "What he sees in her I don't know, wretched girl that she is." He thought as he reached his hand out to touch the mounted brass. Will's thoughts took him to the day the two had met, Elizabeth may have saved his life. "But she didn't need to take my medallion." Will thought bitterly and with that thought the brass broke off the wall with a loud crack. Will slowly looked around, hoping no one had seen this. Finding he was still alone in the room he looked for a place to hide the bit of medal. Will slipped the broken piece into a vase holding canes and umbrellas and shifted uneasily as a servant walked by.
"Ah, Mr. Turner, good to see you again."
Governor Swann finished his walk down the stairs as Will walked over, un-tucking the box from under his arm as he went.
"Good day, sir."
Will placed the well crafted box on the table near by, opening it to show the beautiful sword that lay inside.
"I have your order."
Picking up the piece with careful hands, Will presented it to Governor Swann. The governor pulled the blade out of it holding.
"The blade is folded steel. That's gold filigree laid into the handle."
Will watched as the man before him examined his work.
"If I may." Will gestured lightly for the Governor to give him the sword, and taking it he balanced the sword on his finger.
"Perfectly balanced. The tang is nearly the full width of the blade."
Will then, seeing an opportunity to show off just a bit, flipped the sword and presented it gracefully to the Governor.
"Impressive. Very impressive. Now, now. Commodore Norrington is going to be very pleased with this."
The Governor placed the sword back into it's holding and hands it back to Will to place in it's box for the ceremony.
"Do pass my compliments on to your master."
Will fought to keep his face straight. "Master my arse, that drunk couldn't even lift a hammer these days, I have no master." His heart longed for his recognition but his mind kept his tongue in check.
"I shall. A craftsman is always pleased to hear his work is appreciated."
It was then that Elizabeth walked down the stairs, stopping when she saw Will.
"Elizabeth, you look absolutely stunning."
The Governor smiled as he only daughter continued down the stairs.
"Will, it's so good to see you. I had a dream about you last night."
"About me?"
Governor Swann looked like he was about to choke.
"Yes, is that entirely proper for you --"
"About the day we met. Do you remember?"
"How could I forget, Miss Swann?" "Yes really, how could I forget that chance meeting?" Will fought not to roll his eyes as he humored the girl.
"Will, how many times must I ask you to call me Elizabeth?"
"At least once more, Miss Swann, as always." "Maybe that will get it through her thick head."
"There. See? At least the boy has a sense of propriety. Now, we really must be going. There you are." The governor handed the box with the sword in to to one of the people now appearing seemingly out of nowhere.
"Good day, Mr. Turner."
"Come along."
Will watched as the group left, smiling to himself. Elizabeth would be married off to Norrington in no time and then all he would have to do is sit back and wait for that drunk Brown to drink himself to death and then he'd be well off. "To bad there is nothing else to entertain me, Port Royal is such a dull town." Will thought as he walked gleefully back to the smithy.
