Chapter 2: Savior
10 years later
The clan had expanded its population. Yes, there had been threats, and a few deaths, but somehow, through it all, the clan made it. It even managed to double in size. Sadly one of the few that died was Mio’s mother. The bad bloods had murdered her in her very home as she tried to protect her only daughter and three sons.
Mio hadn’t been the same since her mother’s death. Her mother was more than the person who had given birth to her, she was Mio’s best friend. Essentially, she was the person who lit up Mio’s world, the light that made her world not so dark and lonely. She was only 14 when it happened, and the odd thing was that many of those who threatened the clan were killed within days afterwards. Most of them had had their throats slashed, but every now and then, there was one that had been drained of their blood lying in a twisted fashion.
Of course, her father had no choice but to find another mate. It was clan policy, in case the elder’s children were killed, a very likely probability, he needed to be able to replace them. The female he chose for his mate seemed nice, but there was just something about her that Mio didn’t like, especially since the female gave birth to a child. Mio not only lost her mother, but her To make matters worse, Mio’s heritage made others shun her from the society on Cirro. However, she had a few close friends who didn’t care about her heritage. Also, because of her age and power, suitors started appearing, requesting to be her mate, but she always sent them on their way. She knew what they were really after, and she didn’t want any part of it.
The one person that she truly longed to see again was the boy with the red eyes. Even if it was just a glance, she would be happy. But, her true desire was to talk to him, to see what he was, and why he was here. In her spare time, she would draw. When she was younger, and became sick or bored, her mother would give her a piece of paper and teach her. Mio loved to draw, especially the odd creature with the blood red orbs, but she could never catch emotion in his eyes from that day. He seemed dead inside, kind of like the way she felt now. The only thing to do was to learn from it and move on.
It was sunset, how she loved this time of day. One of her favorite activities was to just watch the beautiful colors as it faded into the twinkling night sky. She liked to believe that her mother was one of those many bright, white diamonds in the sky. But tonight was different.
Yes, over the years she couldn’t help but feel like she was being watched. However, the feeling left her comforted, like whoever it was had no intentions of harming her. But, the safe feeling wasn’t there that night, but she ignored the warning feeling and kept walking. Finally, she came to a nice spot and started humming one of the many songs her mother had sang to her as a child. Mio couldn’t help but smile at the memories of her and her old friends playing here, before ignorance became hatred. Before she realized that life wasn’t always beautiful. Then, as her thoughts invariably did, they turned to the creature, wondering how he was doing. Was he dead? How old was he now?
Then her thoughts came to an end when she heard three pairs of foot steps come up from behind her. She turned around and gasped. “Bad bloods” she whispered to herself.
All three purred at her, their desire filled the air. She knew what they wanted to do. Of course, afterwards, they’d either bring her back to their clan to do more damage to her, or they would just kill her when they were done. Each scenario made a knot form in the pit of her stomach.
“So, she was right there really is a half and half female” One of them trilled.
“She’s the female?” The other asked
“Well if not I’m going to have my fun anyway” He purred then looking at her with pure lust “I promise it won’t hurt…much”
“GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!” Mio screamed and made a run for it
As soon as she ran they were not that far behind. they must have chased her for miles. They were almost all of the way back to her home, but just has she thought she might make it, an arm reached out and threw her to the ground. The three looked at her, their eyes heavy with lust.
The first one chuckled “You gave us quite a run, but now we shall have our fun.”
“No! Get off of me!!!” She screamed “HELP!”
They all laughed at her pathetic attempts to struggle, then Mio felt the one holding her be pulled away into the brush. They heard a few roars of pain, after that, all went silent.
“What the hell?” The second one uttered in confusion.
Before he could say anymore, he felt a sharp pain go in his neck. Then, a dark voice whispered “If you wish to live to see the next sunrise, you shall flee back to the filth you crawled out of.”
They backed off and ran away back into the brush, Mio looked up to see the face of her savior. It was him, the creature in the black trench coat with the blood red orbs staring down at her, dagger at hand, and bright green blood running down the side of his mouth…
