I do not own the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Of Tortuga
To Cheat the Hangman (formerly “For Posterity”), by Hellborne
Pirates of the Caribbean - R
Copyright: Characters, not mine, See the Mouse. Story, mine, but I make no money. He does, but not on this.
Summary: It is horrible to lose a lover to murder. Worse to look back and know you could have stopped it with but a single command. Few men know the real story of the Captain Jack Sparrow legend, or the fate of Commodore Norrington. Fewer would be believed anyway, if they did have the nerve, or the heart to tell it. One man did, then, to set the record straight for posterity. He’d always had the nerve, and his heart already broken. Slash, Angst, Rape (as memory only – no details), Deathfic.
Archive: Fine…just let me know the URL.
Beta: The great, fantastic, most perfect BetaGoddess in the world and her pet jackal…Pendragginink!
N/A: Anyone who has read my story “The Makings of a Pirate” might recognize some of the happenings in this story. This is AU from that, as that story is not a slash.

Chapter 3 - Of Tortuga
The pen began to move again. "Anyway, three years after arriving in Tortuga, I was the proud owner of a house, a wench, and a boy."
The writing stopped. "You married and had a son?"
"No. I'd never slept with a lady by then. But it was cheaper to buy a cook than to eat at the taverns every night, even though she did come with her own moppet." The writing started again. "The lad was six years old, and helped around the house as best he could while I went out and worked at night. They were careful to stay in their rooms for the nights, and to be quiet during the days while I was sleeping.
"One night, I'd brought home a customer, and after all the noise stopped, I guess the boy wanted some food from the kitchen about the same time my customer had decided to leave. I heard the commotion in my sleep and woke up fast, grabbin' me sword under the bed, and ran to where they were. It seems my customer had slit the boy's throat and was buggerin' his body.
The old man looked at the boy. His eyes were black pits of hatred so vile that he scared him. "Hear me, boy. I don't enjoy killin' under normal circumstances. But I gutted the blighter so thoroughly that they had to carry him out in buckets." His eyes softened. "Unfortunately, the boy's mum walked in as I was hackin' away at him. She saw what he'd done to her son and what I was doin' to the boy's killer, and ran out into the night, screamin'."
"When I'd quitted my vengeance on my erstwhile customer, I ran after her, finding her at the tavern I'd met her at. My hands and my sword were covered in blood, but when she saw me she embraced me and cried 'er eyes out. I rentedoom oom for her, but she insisted that I come up with her. I knew it was wrong, but after we both calmed down, we made love."
The pen stopped. "She was your first?"
"Aye."
"You were thirty two?"
"Aye. But remember, I'd always been with men before and didn't know what to do with a woman up till then."
"She taught you?"
"Aye, she was gentle and patient with me. That was when I decided that women folk were even more enjoyable than men folk." The writing started again. "Anyways, I gave her the house. I had to leave. The sea had begun to call me and I'd been tryin' to ignore her for too long.
"I signed onto a small merchant ship and started to feel like myself again.
"I started keeping a journal and a map of all of the ships and towns that were hit by the Pearl's crew. They were manhandlin' my lady, and I needed to get her back with all my soul. I still believed at that time that Bill was still alive but could do nothing but try to keep her safe.
"I worked on the merchant ship about two years, until we were boarded by pirates. They had attacked during the night. I'm glad I wasn't on the watch or I'd be dead, as they slit their throats. They came down to the crew's quarters and started killing the sleeping crew. I was in the back, so I crouched in a corner and me sword in hand. When they got to me, I invoked my rights under parlay, and they took me to their Captain. His name was Clark, and he didn't look like he'd be interested in my offer, but I had to try. He asked me what I wanted, and I told him that I wanted to join his crew; and that I was looking to get me ship back so I had no interest in commandeering his. He surprised me. He agreed. They killed the rest of the crew and took everything, then scuttled the other ship. So I became part of the Cutting Shark's crew.
"I followed orders and kept addin' to me diary and me map, and saw the pattern of where and when the Pearl had been seen. I started formulatin' a plan, but I had no way of implementin' it. I stayed on the Cutting Shark for nigh on three years before she were caught by the British. Once I saw that the Shark and her crew were doomed, I jumped ship, seein' that we were only a few miles from Tortuga." He looked closely at the boy.
The writing stopped. "Would you like to rest again, sir?"
"If you'll allow it. By my age, most men have been dead for years. I just need more rest." He leaned against the wall and fell asleep.
