Morning

Morning

The early morning rays of sun, found Jack Sparrow still vigilant at the helm of the Black Pearl as she glided through the smooth waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Jack eyes, glued to the horizon, as he softly stroked the wheel with his right hand while steering with his left. During these morning hours most of the crew continued to sleep, save four or five men that were finishing up their night watch shift. The night have gone well, not a sound nor sight heard or seen, just the out dolphin. And such things as that didn’t worry the Pearl.

Jack long ago, in the night had allowed his mind to wonder, as he trusted both ship and crew to alert him if things were to go amiss. Settling his thoughts on the two newest members of the crew, the woman and the young boy. Both Bootstrap and his father had told him tales of the woman Izzy in earlier years, how she was a pirate princess, or as near there was to one. A woman worth twice the salt, most of the men sailors were worth. She would have to be, for Bootstrap Bill to have had relations with her. Bootstrap didn’t settle easily he went after the best, and always got what he wanted hence being first Mate on the Black Pearl. The boy on the other hand, was still much to young to be much good on a pirate ship, libel to just get in the way. But still the boy was heir to Bootstrap, maybe with some hard work, he would indeed make the fine Cabin Boy, his father the captain had been talking about with Bill only the night before.

There were also other matters that concerned Jack. He although the son of the Captain, was not entirely trusted by the older more experienced crewmembers, most though of him as daft and crazy to boot. An image that he had in fact planted in their minds just to confuse them, but somewhere along the lines of his hair-brained plan he had managed to screw up, his father wasn’t supposed to think that as well. He had to fix some things, if something where to ever happen to his father, Jack knew that he and the lady would be crushed if the Pearl went to someone other than him as no one else on board not even his father loved the Pearl as much as he had come to love her in the last few months that he’d spent on board, his lady love.

Suddenly new movement along with a moan from the Pearl startled Jack out of his thoughts. Glancing around at the lower decks, Jack tried to make out the source of the movement that he had seen. Thoughts of a possible stowaway, danced through his mind. It was possible that one of the mwho who chased Isabella and Will to the docks last night had managed to get on board the ship. Stocking the helm again as if to ask the pearl what she thought, Jack was once again rewarded with a groan. This time however, the groan wasn’t an alert just a happy little sound arguing against Jack’s original thought.

Brown eyes watched Jack from the shadows, trying to judge if he could be trusted or not. Will had seen Jack the night before, as his father hugged him tightly. The young man had excited Will; there was just something about him that made him want to get to know him. He was much different then the other pirates that Will had been privileged to see the night before. Perhaps it was the dreadlocks tied back in the bright red scarf or the eccentric cloths that he wore. Or maybe it was the fact that he looked almost exactly like the vision he had always cooked up in his head, as to what the pirates looked like; when his mother had told him tales of his father the pirate and his adventures on theck Pck Pearl. But what ever the reason was, Will wanted desperately to get to know the young man.

Out of the corner of his eye, Jack finally spied the source of the movement he had detected. Turner’s young son still in his father’s shirt sat crouched in the shadows of a pile of rigging that sat on the port side of the quarterdeck. His eyes wide with fascination as he watched Jack maneuver the Pearl through wat water, smiling to himself Jack continued to ignore the boy. If young Will where to get curious enough he would eventually come out of hiding on his own.

It wasn’t all that long until most of the crewmembers made their way up on deck, having woken up from the slumbers to start the new day and replace the men whom had been up since four a.m. doing their watch and allowing them to go catch a few winks. The Captain usually made himself known later in the morning after he had dined on breakfast and had had a moment to read over his charts, until that time and usually afterward as well either Jack or Bootstrap had control of the Pearl.

Bootstrap and Isabella Turner, appeared a little later than Bill normally did each morning. Probably having already searched the lower levels of the Pearl for their missing child. Catching Bill’s eye, Jack nodded his head tds tds the hiding place of their missing charge. He and Bill had gotten to be close during the last few months and he didn’t want the older man to be missing his boy, after he had so recently gotten him back.

Signaling to Isabella with a kiss on the cheek, Bill headed up to the helm. Scooping up and swinging young Will into the air on his way Bill earned himself a squeal of delight from his boy.

“Morning Jack, how’d things go last night?”

“Good as gold mate.” Jack answered flashing him a gold filled grin, before smiling at the boy Bill held in his arms.

“Jack this is my son Will, and Will this is Jack Sparrow, Captain Sparrow’s son.”

“Well mate is a pleasure to finally meet you.” Jack answered flashing another gold-filled smile in the boy’s direction. Will smiled a small smile in return before his shyness over came him and he buried his face in his father’s shoulder.

Releasing the helm with one hand, Jack waved it in Will’s direction, “The boys been up here for quite a while Mate, might want to get him dressed is a bit chilly this morning.”

“Probably should, his mother can do that. Do you want me to take the wheel for a while Jack?”

“Naw, I’m good Mate.”
“Alright then, I need to talk some things over with ye father anyways. Just send Gibbs in to get me when you be ready to call if quits.”

Again waving his hand around through the air, Jack turned back to the helm as Bill turned to go back down onto the main deck. Out of the corner of his eye, Jack secretly watched the retreating back of his friend hoping to catch another glimpse of young Will. The boy was too shy for his own good, not good for a pirate to be shy. Though the boy had undoubtedly had the shyness beaten into him, as most six year olds or at least the ones that Jack had had the unfortunate plea of of running into had been down right loud and annoying, but not this one. This one was eerily quiet. Just as Bill disappeared from view, Will glanced up at Jack and smiled.

Hours later, Jack sat in his father’s quarters. The Pearl had safely docked at Port Jarred about an hour before and other than about four other crewmembers on on board guardihe Phe Pearl, Jack and his father where the only ones on board the ship.

“Jack, I want ye to watch after the Turner whelp.”

“Sir why do I have to do it?”

“Ye’ll not question me ordboy.boy. The Turner whelp is your responsibility. Bill asked fer ye to do it. Seems the boy is taken with ye.”

“Fine I’ll watch the whelp, but before I do I want to know what be wrong with him, he’s too quiet.”

“That be a story, fer either Izzy or Bootstrap to be tell’ ye. I’ll not go into it. Now if ye be wanting sum shore leave I suggest ye go and have some. I’ll be joining ye and the crew later at the tavern.”

“Aye Sir” Jack replied before getting up and quickly disappearing out of his father’s quarters.

It didn’t take Jack long to track down the younger members of the Black Pearls crew, at least the ones that he had managed to grow close too. They of course where lounging around in the scummiest tavern they could find down on the waterfront of Port Jarred. Painted tavern girls, and even the odd tavern boy sitting upon their knees. Anamaria, the only other female crewmember save now for Izzy sat hunched over in the corner chair backed up against the wall, nursing a large mug of ale. Watching her male companions with a mixture of disgust and hate as they pawed at the painted boys and girls. Walking around the hordes of both sexes that were drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Jack slid into a chair next to Ana and promptly ordered himself a bottle of rum.
