Chapter 2 – A Bizarre Discovery
Will woke to a warm body next to him. He looked down, seeing a black mop of hair with trinkets. /Jack?/ He sat up, and the world spun wildly, so he reached for the bucket he kept next to the bed and heaved into it. The person next to him was a woman, but she definitely had Jack’s hair, from the occasional dreadlocks to the trinkets adorning them. He even recognized the silver mandala Jack kept on the front left braid. The long, white fid and the scarf were missing, but it was totally uncanny. He looked into the lady’s face. She had the same high cheekbones, heart-shaped face and nose of the pirate captain, but Will knew the difference between men and women, and this was NOT Jack Sparrow, no matter how much they resembled one another. /Maybe his sister?/
Then the dizziness passed and he noticed that both of them were naked. /What in God’s name happened last night?/ This was a fairly normal question that he’d ask himself every morning after his drunken nights lately, but this time he had a bit more to answer for, if the lady in his bed were any indication. He gently shook her. “Miss?”
She opened her eyes. Even her eyes were Jack’s, but somehow they looked more natural on her. “Hello, love. You fell asleep in the middle, as it were, so I let you sleep.”
“Thank you?” Will was definitely confused about waking up with someone in his bed. “Sorry about that. Now, what did you say your name was?”
“Well, you named me Doc, love. So I guess I’ll stick with that.” She reached between them to grasp Will’s manhood.
Will jumped and squeaked. “Waitaminute!” He grabbed the sheet, leaving her naked. He squeaked again and tossed it back on her, grabbing his breeches and holding them against his groin.
“Wha’s wrong, love? Ye never bedded a lady in the daylight before?”
“I wasn’t aware that I’d bedded a lady before PERIOD.” Will realized what he said and blushed head to toe.
Doc giggled. “You could have fooled me, love.”
Will blushed even redder. He turned his back on her and got dressed as quickly as he could, then turned around again. “Where are your clothes?”
She pointed to them. “I had to borrow those, love. I don’t know where my clothes went off to.”
Will looked at her. She REALLY looked like Jack in the face, but softer. “Do you have a brother named Jack Sparrow?”
She shrugged, and the sheet fell to her waist. Will squeaked again and turned away. “I don’t know, love. In fact, can’t say I know much about myself at all. It’s like I was born last night. When I woke up, I found a freeloader on top of me so I killed him and took his clothes, since he didn’t see fit to have put mine anywhere I could find them.” She looked at him. “What’s your name, love?”
“Will Turner. I’m the blacksmith here. Are you sure you don’t know who Jack Sparrow is?”
“Not a clue, love.”
He went to a chest and started rummaging around. He pulled out a pair of breeches and a shirt, and tossed them to her. “These should fit you. They’re too small for me. They’re from when I was younger.”
She put the clothes on and walked over to Will, turning him around. “You are one comely man, Will Turner. And a kind man as well.” She took the five shillings out of her pouch. “I can’t take this from you.”
Will refused. “Keep it. You remind me of a friend, and I’d never forgive myself if I took it from you. Would you like some food?”
“You’ve been too kind already. I’d better get going, love.” She pointed to a clock on a rough desk. “It’s getting close to noon. You need to get to work, and so do I. Perhaps our paths will cross again.”
“I’d like that very much. I feel as if I’d known you forever. Perhaps you could pay me back by accompanying me to breakfast? My treat and pleasure, miss. You said I named you ‘Doc’. Why would I do that, and what’s your real name?”
“You told me that I was just what the doctor ordered, so my name must be ‘Doc’. I don’t know my name, love. Like I said, it’s like I was born last night. I’ve got odd memories of small things, like I know this is Port Royal, but I don’t remember anything about my past. Hell, I was in my birthday suit when I came to, so to speak.”
Will considered what she said. “So you don’t even know if you’re a whore?”
“Well, when I came to, there was a man takin’ what he wanted of me, so I assumed he was a freeloader. But he might have been a rapist...I don’t know. But anyway, I figured I must have been a whore. Then I went into the tavern and found you. But what am I if not a whore?”
“Considering your coloring, you could be a slave, but I’ve never seen such a beautiful slave before. I’d say you’re an Indian princess, personally, if it weren’t for your accent. Tell you what, since you remind me of Jack, how about we name you Jacqueline?”
“Thank you, love. Jacqueline sounds good. You can call me Jackie.” Her stomach growled and she blushed. “I think I will take you up on breakfast. I don’t know when I’ve last eaten.”
“Then we’ll get you fixed right up.” The blacksmith got an idea. “But first, I have something that needs to be done, and I need you with me for that. I want you dressed properly for the lady you are.” They left the smithy, heading for the marketplace.
