Girls Night Out
When Laura left that morning, I went to bed and slept all day. I figured since it was my day off I could sleep as long as I wanted since I didn't have to be at work the next day. Of course my sleep would be restless. I still had nightmares about Kyle dying, I had taken sedatives but they didn't help. No matter how hard I tried, the dream would still be the same. I set my alarm for 6:30 p.m. and it went off right on schedule. I knew Laura would make good on her promise if I was not ready at 8 p.m. when she came to get me. I slowly woke up, I didn't want to get out of bed, the covers were so warm compared the coldness of my small studio apartment but I managed to crawl out of bed and make my way to the shower.
I ran the water, it was ice cold at first but it took awhile to warm up, at least five minutes. The steam rised steadily as the water was running from the showerhead so I knew it had finally warmed up enough for my body not to have a shock as I stepped inside. I washed my hair and soaped myself down, the water felt good. I then took a razor and started shaving my legs, my arms and my armpits. It had been awhile since I had went out, but I figured what the hell, I didn't want to look like bigfoot when I stepped out into civilization after so long.
I stepped out and brushed my teeth, I kept brushing so hard my gums bled, but I ignored it and just rinsed my mouth out. I wrapped myself in large towel and walked over to my closet. Most of my wardrobe was nothing more than black business suits with long sleeves that I wore to the office Monday through Friday. I very rarely had anything in my closet that resembled club wear. I moved hangers and such until finally I spied the dress.
It was red and it was the last thing I wore when Kyle and I went out for the last time, seeing it made me sad so I skipped it and saw another dress that I could possibly wear. It was black and had spaghetti straps and hit me a little above the knee it was just long enough to where no one would see the scars that I inflicted on myself. I took it out of the closet and put it on. I went back inside the bathroom and blow-dried my hair into a simple style, I didn't feel like going all out, so I applied light make-up. The last time I really wore any make-up was when I with Kyle. He knew how to make me feel beautiful and right now I didn't feel like it.
I went back to my closet and found a nice pair of black heels, once I was ready I inspected myself one last time in the mirror. Not long after there was a knock at the door.
"Just a minute!" I called out.
I inspected myself one more time and there was another knock. I stepped away from the mirror and made my way to the door. I opened it and there was no one there. At the foot of the door there was a dozen red roses with a card attached. I bent down to pick them up, the scent was fragrant. I looked both ways down the hall.
"Is anyone there?" I called out.
No answer.
I cradled the roses in my arms and looked both ways as I entered my apartment once again. I wondered who would leave me these beautiful flowers. I opened the card which read:
Have you ever stood and marveled at it? Marveled at beauty? I know I had marveled at you many times. I hope to meet with you in person soon.

An admirer
I set the roses in a vase filled with water and I wondered if it could be the person who talked to me on net. Most women would have been creeped out, but for some strange reason I wasn't. I pondered this for a moment until I heard another knock at the door and a familar voice on the other side.
"Hey bitch!" It was Laura, it was the way she me greeted ever since we were kids.
"I'll be there in a minute HO!" I called back.
I made my way to the door and there she was with Dominique, Bonnie and Sara.
"Hey girl! I have not seen you in forever!" Dominque said as she hugged me.
"Yeah it's been a long time." I said.
The last time we all each other saw was Kyle's funeral. Thankfully they were kind enough not to mention it. We made our way down the stairs and to Laura's car. It was an old white Trans AM and by some miracle all five of us fit in, three in the back while I rode shotgun. We made out way to the club and were greeted by huge Somoan bartender. Patrick was his name.
"What'll you girls have?" He asked us.
"I'll have a shot of Southern Comfort." I said.
The other girls followed my lead and we all had our of Southern Comfort. We went to a table facing the dance floor. Some of the girls in our group went to go dance, I just sat there like a wallflower at the senior prom just watching everyone else. The bartender walked up to me and told me there was a gentleman who like to buy me whatever I was drinking. He pointed in his direction. He looked like he was in his early 40's, his dark hair was slicked back and he wore a black Armani suit with a matching tie and silver tie clip. But the oddest thing to me was that he was wearing sunglasses even though the bar was dark, he even had an earpiece. I thought it was kind of strange but I did accept the drink. All night he never left his spot. And even though he still had his shades on, I couldn't help but think he was watching me.
