CHAPTER 3
Jack paused to listen when he reached the captain’s quarters. He shifted the sword in his hand making a firmer grip, and slowly turned the doorknob. The door was locked.
‘Lots of trust on his ship,’ Jack whispered to himself.
Jack listened again but heard no sound. The door being locked had to mean someone was inside the captain’s cabin.
Jack spoke through the closed door, “If ye come out now, no one will get hurt.”
No sound.
“Let me make an agreement with you. This ship is sinking. Ye can’t stay in there. On my word as a fellow captain, if ye come out now, I promise no harm will come to you.”
Jack held up his hand as if to swear although no one was there to see him.
Still no sound.
Jack turned to face the door.
“Come on, open the…” Jack kicked the door hard and it flew open. Jack jumped back, just in case someone had a gun pointed in his direction.
Still no sound.
Jack peered around the edge of the door and looked inside. He couldn’t see anyone.
Slowly and cautiously, he started inside the room, his sword wielding in front of him. The room was much nicer than his, almost to the point of being clean. His looked quickly around the room and caught a movement out of the corner of his eye. He turned in that direction and moved slowly forward to another open door which had to be the loo. There stood the ship’s captain.
He had his sword pulled and the shiny blade was at the throat of a young lass.
“Well, now, this is interesting,” Jack said lowering his sword a bit.
The captain had a firm grip on the young woman. Jack looked them both over. The lass was scared and she had been crying. Her chestnut brown hair was a hanging down in her face, but the look in her eyes was pleading for someone to help her.
“One step closer and I will slit her throat,” the captain said to Jack.
Jack looked at the girl, and then at the captain, “Now why would you be wanting to hurt such a fair lass?” Jack smiled at the young lady being held captive.
“It’s alright luv, we’ll get you out of this mess.”
“NO,” the captain bellowed. “I will kill her before I’ll let her fall into the hands of a pirate. I know what you pirates would do to a young woman and she will be better off dead.”
Jack looked at the young lady again. He looked at those pleading eyes.
“Now, that is not necessarily true,” Jack said to the captain. “I myself have been known to be a perfect gentleman, when the situation warrants such behavior. I give you my word; no harm will come to his lovely lass. This ship is sinking, so put down the sword and let her have a chance to live.”
The captain made no move to grant Jack’s request.
“Please,” Jack said then in his most gentlemanly manner.
The captain made no move. The young girl tried to get free from the hold the captain had on her.
“Please let me go captain, I don’t want to die,” the girl pleaded with her captor and started to cry.
The captain eased up on his grip just enough for the young lady to break free from him and fall to the floor. Jack raised his sword as the captain was bringing his down on the woman.
“NO,” Jack yelled as he thrust the sword deep into the captain’s chest. The captain’s sword fell to the floor with a clang. Jack withdrew his sword and the captain fell backward, blood spurting from the deadly wound in his chest.
“I didn’t want to do that,” Jack said looking over to the young lady on the floor. He walked slowly over to her and tried to help her to her feet.
“Are you alright luv,” Jack asked.
The girl nodded, but jerked away from Jack and tried to run. Jack grabbed her around the waist to hold on to her as she kicked and screamed.
“Calm down luv,” I’m not going to hurt you.
You do have to come with me to my ship though,” Jack told her.
“NO”, she screamed still swinging her arms to fight him. “I don’t want to go with you.”
“Well, now lassie, we do have a bit of a problem here. If I leave you here as you so desire, you will die. Like I said, this ship is sinking, and I do recall you did tell your captain just a moment ago that you did not wish to die. If that be the case, you will have to return with me to my ship, The Black Pearl.”
The girl stopped screaming and started to calm down with Jack’s words.
“The Black Pearl?” the girl asked.
“Aye, The Black Pearl,” Jack replied, “That’s the name of me ship. I am Captain Jack Sparrow, at your service my lady. And what would your name be dear lass?”
The girl looked back at the dead captain lying in a bloody heap on the floor then turned to Jack.
“My name is Treasure. Treasure Alexander,” she said.
Jack’s eyes widened and a smile crept across his face, “Treasure? Now that is an interesting name. Sometime you will have to tell me how you came about having such a interesting unusual name,” Jack remarked. He was intrigued.
“Sometime,” Treasure replied, “but I doubt it.”
Jack dismissed her remark and said, “Come on luv, we best be leaving this place before we have to swim back to the Black Pearl.”
