what the hell?

Ch. 2 What The Hell…

Jack Sparrow woke up to Gibbs yelling and banging on his door.

“Capt’n we need ya on deck now!”

“Go away!” Jack yelled back and pulled his sheet over his head. He didn’t know what was wrong with him; he was just so bloody tired.

“NOW! Jack. Get your arse out of bed!” Gibbs hollered through the door. Jack sighed and threw the sheets aside.

“Fine, I’m coming ya bloody slave keeper!” the only reply he got was a subtle chuckle from his first mate. He snatched his trousers from the chair and dived under the bed to find his boots. There was no way that he was going stay out of bed long enough to cold that much was for sure. He grabbed a shirt from one of the chests along the wall and headed out the door of his cabin.

“What is so important that you wake me up at the break of DAWN?!” He yelled. ‘Damn, I’m going to lose my voice before I’ve even had breakfast.’ He thought. Jack stopped abruptly when he entered the deck. Everyone was there. Everyone. Jack felt a chill run up his spine at the memories this image gave him; the day Barbossa threw him off his own ship. He was just eighteen at the time, but the experience made him wise beyond his years. Gibbs seemed to sense his uneasiness and stepped forward.

“We’ve got a blind passenger Cap’tn “ the crowd parted to reveal a black bundle lying twisted. It was a girl with long shiny black hair and a short black dress that seemed to be cut just below her knee. Her skin was milky white, too white. Jack frowned, skin was not supposed to be white when you lived in the Caribbean. He turned towards his crew and quirked a brow.

“This is why you woke me up? You know what we do with blind passengers.” Gibbs spoke up again.

“She seems to be hurt, Cap’tn, badly. If she goes in the brig she’s sure to go to the locker.” Jack sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He walked over to the girl without his usual swagger, turned her over and checked her pulse. She was still alive, very much so, no fever, no scratches or bruises that he could find and no broken bones, but she was still out cold. Her dress was of a thin cotton material, but it was soft like silk. So was she; soft and delicate, like she would brake if he tried to move her.

“Um, did the heat get to you Cap’tn?”

“Um no I was just thinking of where to put her.”

“Your cabin would be the best sir. Even I can tell that this one is a proper lady even if she’s dressed in a nighty.” One of the crewmembers said.

“Aye, that would seem to be the case.” Jack bent down on his knee and swooped her off the ground. The girl settled nicely into the crook of his arm. He could feel that she was not as delicate as she looked. She was strong. He carried her to his cabin and laid her down in his bed. His tanned finger gazed her pale skin as he pulled her dress off and the sheet upon her. As he was about to leave he turned around and looked at her, really looked, and he came to a conclusion. Something was off about her. It was not her dress or the paleness of her skin; something was just simply not normal. Not normal, like him.

……………………………………………………………………………..

“Something is off about that lass” Gibbs said. “Mark my words, something is not right.”

“Of course something is not right mate,” Jack replied “If it was I’d be worried.”

“Don’t act daft on me Jack. How could she be so clean after a month on a pirates ship? Nothing is missing from the supplies, so she hasn’t been stealing. We searched the ship and there is no trace of her anywhere, and her skin is too white to be normal.”

“I hear you mate, but we can’t throw her of the ship can we, and it’s been nothing but good weather since she….revealed herself to us, so to say.”

Jack had a feeling of that she had not been on the ship at all until they found her. He knew that people like her, him, could appear or disappear in a second if they tried, or it was needed. That was how he got off that blasted island Barbossa had left him on twice. His hands tightened on the wheel and the wind picked up as his anger rose. It had been tree days since she had appeared. Three days of watching her, sleeping next to her, breathing in her intoxicating scent.

He needed to know if there were more like them in the world. His father had cut him off from other people when he was young so he never got to know. He spent his days learning to control his powers. That is until he got the Pearl. In the years he had spent captaining her, his ‘gift’ had woven itself together with the ship. He could feel her, and she would never sail as fast and steady with any other captain that Jack. The Pearl was his pride and joy.

He closed his eyes and concentrated on the shifting air around him, soon there was a gentle breeze filling the sails. He wanted to get to Tortuga quickly, preferably without bumping into Norrington and his bunch of dunderheads. Another shift in the energy of the ship pulled him out of his reverie. She was awake.
