Chapter Two: Angela
2007
Halloween Night
The evening was cold. So cold in fact that Michael shivered a little bit as he stalked the streets of Haddonfield. The leaves crunching as the peppy children ran and shouted in the street.
"How much candy do you have?"
Michael heard and saw children comparing how much candy they've got as he walked. The sun was setting and the glow of the leaves tricked with his eyes. Beautiful they were. Oranges, reds, and yellows. It had been so long since he saw anything so fresh and lovely. He bent down and picked up a bunch and stood examining them. One by one he let them fall, watching them swirl down to the ground yet again. He picked up his head to see kids still running about with the occasional parent staring at him, whispering to their kid to stay away from him. Michael didn't care though, in fact, he didn't blame them either. He would tell his kids to stay away from a person who looked like him too.
He continued to stalk, looking at nothing in particular. His mask got muggy and wished he could remove it. It made his skin feel the need to be washed. The humidity from his breath and body heat and the stickyness of the rubber made him want to just tear the thing to shreds. He kept his cool though, for when he looked down, he saw a small girl in an angel costume and the last thing he needed was a small child screaming from him, drawing attention.
" I don't need this. Go away, angel girl" he thought as he made eye contact with the blonde haired angel through his mask.
"Hello." she said as she stared up his monsterous height. Michael remained silent and tilted his head for he didn't expect the girl to talk to him, "I said 'hello'." she told him in a 'know-it-all' tone. Shocked, he still stayed quiet, "I'm an angel. What are you? What is your costume of?" she asked. He stood still as he looked down upon his stolen uniform, "You sort of look like my friend's uncle. He wears that kind of thing to work. He fixes cars. He dosn't wear a mask though." she said as she looked down to his empty hands and gave him a questioning look. "Where's your candy?"
"Go away." he thought.
"My mom told me to never talk to strangers. QUICK! My name is Angela. What's yours?!" she said loudly and jumped up real fast. "QUICK!"
Feeling a bit intimidated by the small child, he quickly responded quietly,
"Michael... Michael."
"See?"
"See what?"
"Now we aren't strangers." she said gleefully, "So where is your candy?"
"I don't have any." he responded.
"Why?"
"I just don't"
"That's just not right. It's Halloween." with that, she dug into her pillow case that was potruding with sweets and went up to him and forcfully put a bag of something into his hand. "Here, nobody should have no candy on Halloween."
Michael heard from a distance a group of children calling Angela's name. She looked back at them and sighed.
"Well, they're calling for me. I should go. Friends could be such a pain in the butt. Always rushing me." she huffed. "Well, I'll see you around Michael. It was nice to meet you." and Michael watched her prance off to her friends, but she quickly turned her head around back at him, "Michael?" she shouted as he looked up and on at her, "Happy Halloween!."
Angela continued to trick or treat down the street as Michael watched on. He too began to slowly stalk as he did before. The sun was now almost set and more and more kids were disappearing from the night. The occasional driving teenager would zip pass him, throwing him off a tad, but he continued on walking. When he remembered that Angela had placed something in his hand, he looked at her gift in happiness. A bag of gummy worms. Michael smiled behind his mask and looked into the woods where he remembered his home. 'His' home. The smile slowly faded as he walked into that direction. He grasped the bag of candy and made his way into the maze of trees.
