Chapter 3
Coming Full Circle
Chapter 3
Mara smiled as she watched Luke move around the kitchen. Though he was the last Jedi Master, at that moment, he was just Luke Skywalker. The man she loved more than anything and her soon to be husband.
“So, where did you want to get married?” she asked as she sat at the table.
“I was thinking about the lake country on Naboo,” he suggested.
“I like that idea. As long as it’s a simple, private ceremony,” she agreed.
“Fine by me. The only people I want there are my family, Talon, Wedge and his wife and daughter,” he nodded as he placed their plates on the table.
“Sounds perfect. We should probably tell everyone huh?” she added.
“Yeah. When should we do this?” he questioned.
“Is a week too soon?” she smiled.
“Yesterday wouldn’t be too soon,” he laughed.
************************************************************************
After finishing their meal, the two made arrangements to meet Han, Leia, and the kids. They held hands the whole time they made their way to the Solo residence. 3PO greeted them at the door.
“Oh Master Luke, Mistress Mara. It’s such a pleasure to see you both again,” 3PO said.
“Hello 3PO,” Luke grinned.
“Hey goldenrod,” Mara greeted.
3PO led them into the living room. There Leia sat on the sofa with Jaina and Jacen while Han was playing with Anakin. Mara smiled and suddenly got a mental picture of Luke playing with their own children.
*Someday my love,*
*I can’t wait Luke,*
“Uncle Luke!” Anakin cried as he jumped off the floor and ran to Luke.
“Hi Anakin,” Luke laughed as he gathered his youngest nephew into his arms.
“Luke, Mara, it’s good to you both well,” Leia smiled as she hugged her twin.
“It’s good to be well,” Mara nodded.
“Okay kid, what’s this big news?” Han asked as he sat down beside his wife.
“Well, Mara and I are getting married in a week,” Luke answered.
“Oh Luke, Mara. Congratulations,” Leia gushed as she hugged them both.
“Congratulations. It’s about time you two got it together,” Han laughed as he shook Luke’s hand.
“Thanks. We were planning to wed in a simple quite ceremony in the lake country on Naboo,” Mara said.
“How can I help?” Leia questioned.
Luke and Mara quickly filled Leia in on the specifics of what they wanted. Leia happily told them to leave it to her. An hour later, Luke and Mara found themselves in the gardens on the roof of the Imperial Palace.
“Why Naboo?” Mara asked.
“Well, this is going to sound silly, but I feel connected to my parents there. It’s were they fell in love and married,” Luke answered.
“That’s not silly. If that’s how you feel, then it’s all the more reason for us to be married there. However, unlike your parents, we don’t have to worry about being separated by a Sith Lord,” she replied gently.
“I love you Mara Jade,”
“And I love you Luke Skywalker,”
************************************************************************
Two days later, everyone Luke and Mara wanted at their wedding was gathered on Naboo. As a gift, Queen Amielia arranged for Luke and Mara to be married by not only the same priest, but the same place as Anakin and Padme nearly thirty five-year prior.
While Luke was being helped by the men, Leia, Jaina, and Wedge’s wife were helping Mara find a wedding dress. So far, the five were having absolutely no luck in their search.
“This is hopeless. We’ve been to every shop in Theede,” Mara sighed.
“Don’t worry. We’ll find something,” Leia assured her.
“Mom, Aunt Mara,” Jaina called out as she stopped in front of a shop.
“What is it honey?” Leia asked as they joined her.
“What about that one?” Jaina replied pointing at the window.
Mara gasped as she saw the dress. Before the other women could say anything, Mara spun on her heel and rushed into the shop. The other three began laughing as they followed her inside.
************************************************************************
“This is the perfect place for you and Mara to marry,” Talon grinned as he took in the serenity of the wedding site.
“I’m honored Queen Amielia allowed us to use this location. Especially at such short notice,” Luke nodded.
“Looks like things have come full circle huh?” Han said.
“What do you mean?” Wedge asked.
“This is the very place mine and Leia’s parents were married. It was also here in the lake country they fell in love,” Luke explained.
“Wow, talk about history repeating itself,” Wedge chuckled.
“Yes, but I’m not my father. Mara and I are different than he and my mother. We don’t have a Sith trying to destroy us,” Luke smiled.
************************************************************************
For the last two days before the wedding, Luke and Mara agreed to stay in separate rooms. When they arrived, they were greeted by Padme’s sister, Sola. She offered them the use of her home.
There, she told them stories of Padme. Luke and Leia finally had answers to many unanswered questions about who their mother was and where they came from. Mara felt happy for the twins.
“You wanted to see me Mara?” Sola asked as she entered Mara’s room.
“Yes. You see, I found the perfect dress, but when I put it on at the shop, I felt this…feeling wash over me. Like the dress had a link with your sister,” Mara answered.
“What do you mean?” Solo questioned.
“Well, I was hoping if you saw it, you might be able to tell me,” Mara explained.
Mara turned and opened the closet. When she pulled out the dress and veil, Sola gasped. “Oh my. That’s the exact same dress Padme wore when she married Anakin,”
“Are you serious?” Mara exclaimed.
“Yes. Padme showed it to me a few weeks after she married Anakin,” Sola nodded.
“This must be a sign from the Force,” Mara said.
“How so?” Sola replied.
“Well, me and Luke being married by the same priest, the same place, and me finding the same dress as his mother,” Mara chuckled.
“Yes, I guess so. However, I feel you and Luke will have a happier marriage and a longer one than Padme and Anakin did,” Sola smiled brightly.
************************************************************************
Luke looked around at the swirling fog that surrounded him. Everywhere he looked was covered in the thick grey soup. It reminded him of the swamp on Dagobah. “Hello! Is anyone there!” he called out.
“Luke?” a voice answered.
“Mara? What are you doing here?” he asked as he pulled her into his arms.
“I don’t know. Are we dreaming?” she answered as she wrapped her arms tightly around him.
“I think so. I just wish I knew where we were at least,” he sighed.
At his words, the fog suddenly began to lift then disappeared completely. Luke and Mara looked around at their surroundings. They were in a building overlooking what looked like Coruscant.
“Oh my. This is the old Jedi Temple,” Mara gasped.
“Are you sure?” Luke questioned.
Mara nodded. “Your instincts serve you well Mara,” a voice chuckled.
“Obi-Wan,” Luke whispered as his first mentor appeared.
“It’s good to see you again Luke,” Obi-Wan smiled as he sat in one of the many chairs.
“What’s going on?” Luke inquired as he and Mara sat down as well.
“You and Mara are here for answers. Answers you both have been asking since you first met each other,” Obi-Wan explained.
Before Luke or Mara could speak, two more people appeared. A man and a woman. Mara felt Luke freeze as he saw them. Slowly, her fiancee got to his feet and approached the couple.
“Mother? Father?”
“Oh Luke,” Padme nodded.
“Hello son,” Anakin beamed.
Luke pulled his parents into his arms and hugged them tightly. “Luke, you and Mara have nothing to fear,” Padme whispered.
“How did you know?” Mara asked.
“Mara, you and Luke were born for each other. Yes, Luke is destined to rebuild the Jedi Order, but you are destined to help him. Be his partner in all things,” Anakin answered.
Luke returned to his chair as Padme and Anakin sat next to Obi-Wan across from them. “Mara, you were right about what you told my sister,” Padme said.
“What did you tell me Aunt?” Luke questioned.
“That the Force brought us to be married on Naboo,” Mara smiled.
“That’s right. Son, your mother and I were meant to follow the paths we did. You and Mara aren’t meant to suffer the same hardship we did,” Anakin replied.
“The Force brought you two to Naboo to complete the circle. The events leading to this moment, began there when Anakin and Padme fell in love and married. Now, with the union of you Mara, the circle will be complete,” Obi-Wan explained.
Mara and Luke looked at each other, their hands joined. Everything began to make sense. Why there was such tension between them when they first met. How that tension easily grew into friendship and then love. Luke raised her hand and kissed it softly.
“Now, my last gift to you my son,” Padme smiled sadly.
A beam of light filled Luke’s hand. When he opened it, he saw a pair of matching wedding bands. He and Mara looked up at Padme and Anakin.
“They belonged to you mother and I. It’s only right that you two have them now,” Anakin said.
“How can we ever thank you? For everything?” Mara asked tearfully.
“By loving and taking care of one another,” Padme replied.
Luke and Mara rose to their feet and bowed to Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme. The three returned the bow as they began to fade away.
************************************************************************
Luke jerked awake in his bed, gasping. He couldn’t believe what he had seen. “What the…” he wondered as he felt something in his hand.
He looked down at his right hand, clutched in a fist. Slowly, he opened it. In his palm were the wedding bands Padme had given him in the dream. He looked over as his commlink went off.
“Skywalker,”
“Luke, did you have the same dream I just did?”
“I did Mara. I don’t think it was a dream though,”
“Why do you say that?”
“I’m holding my parent’s wedding rings in my hand love,”
************************************************************************
Mara stood in front of the mirror as Sola placed the headpiece on. Luke and Mara had agreed to keep their dream/vision a secret. Mara felt a gentle brush against her hair. As if someone were stroking it.
*Be at peace Mara,* Padme’s voice whispered in her mind.
“Mara, you alright?” Leia asked.
“I am now Leia,” Mara smiled.
“Then, let’s get you married to my brother,” Leia beamed.
Luke stood next to Han. Seated in front of them were Talon, Jaina, Jacen, Anakin, Wedge, Wedge’s wife and Sola. “You alright kid?” Han replied.
“I’m better than alright,” Luke answered with a broad smile.
Soft music began playing. Luke watched as Leia came out first. Once Leia reached her position, he held his breath. He let it out slowly as Mara came into his sights.
*Mara. You look beautiful,*
*Thank your mother. She had everything to do with this,*
Mara moved to stand in front of Luke. Their eyes met. In what was only a matter of heart beats, the events leading to this moment flashed between them.
*I love you Mara,* he said.
*And I love you Luke,* she smiled as they faced the priest.
************************************************************************
Luke stood at the window of the suit Queen Amielia had arranged for them in Theede. After a quite reception at Sola’s home, the Skywalkers headed for Theede. Mara had told him to get comfortable, she had a surprise for him.
Luke looked down at the wedding band that had once belonged to his father. He had felt the presence of his parents, Obi-Wan and Yoda at the ceremony and knew Mara had as well.
“Hmm-hmm,”
“Wow,” Luke gasped as he faced his wife.
“Do you like your surprise?” Mara asked as she slowly walked toward him.
“Do I like it? I love it,” he answered.
“I figured you would,” she winked saucily.
Mara was wearing a see through emerald green negligee. Her red gold hair unbound and falling in waves over her shoulders and down her back. Luke groaned as he pulled her into his arms and kissed her.
************************************************************************
*Three Years Later*
Mara Jade Skywalker sat in the pilots chair of her ship. She was on her way home to Coruscant and her husband. A year ago, Luke had decided the academy no longer needed him there full time. Now, he and Mara lived permanently on Coruscant. Mara still had her trade business, but like Luke, didn’t do it full time and spent more time on Coruscant.
*Where are you husband of mine?*
*Having lunch with Han and Lando. Why?*
*Well, I better see your cute ass at Platform 611 in two hours,*
*I’ll be there,*
Mara chuckled as she closed her connection to Luke. She couldn’t wait to tell him the good news she had found out on Naboo. On her way home, she had stopped off on the planet to check on Sola. While there, her suspicions had been confirmed.
************************************************************************
Luke stood on platform 611. He smiled as he watched his wife walk down the ramp. She looked as beautiful as ever. He quickly closed the gap between them.
“Oh I missed you,” he whispered as he held her.
“I missed you too,” she said, returning his hug.
“There’s something different about you,” he replied as he stepped back to look at her better.
“Well, you’re right. Dad,” she beamed.
Luke’s eyes widened. He looked from her face to her stomach, then back to her face. Mara giggled and nodded her head. Luke’s face broke into a huge smile and he pulled her into his arms again.
“Hahahahaha!” he laughed as he spun her around.
“I take it you’re happy?” she smirked as he sat her on her feet again.
“Yes. Oh Mara, I’ve never been happier. Except the day I married you,” he answered.
Mara leaned up and kissed him. Their lives were perfect. They were now complete and looking foreword to welcoming the newest addition to the Skywalker family.
