Running

Taking gasping breaths, Ash forced herself to think. Slowing the car to the speed linit, she looked for a place to hide, a seldom used path, a dark alley, anything. Spotting a thick weeping willow, Ash catiously eased her car into its shadowy depths, holding her breath the enire time. She didn't take a full breath again until sh heard the siren pass her and keep going down the road. She forced herself to to wait 20 minutes, unable to wait any longer, before allowing herself to drive back to the road. Hopefully, it was enough time that Gavin was far away, but not too much time to make him suspicious and turn around.

Heading back the way she had come, trying to stick to the speed limit so as not to attract attention, Ash drove to the highway and headed south. She had no idea where she was headed, no friends or family members to go to. Who knew what would happen if she stayed around and pressed charges. No one would believe her, and her parents wouldn't want the scandal. She had to get away. Anywhere. Besides, she was 18, it was summer, and there were lots of places she could go...right?

Ash rove until it started to get dark, stopping only to use the bathroom or to subject her nervous stomach to food. She wished she had a hat, or some way to disguise her identity. The best she could do was put on sunglasses an hope Gavin hadn't put an APB out on her. It was about 8:00 and if Ash drove any more, she might fall sleep at the wheel. The stress from almost being raped and running away made it hard to focus on the road. Pulling into a Best Western just off the highway, Ash was relieved to find that they would allow her to pay in cash. Who knew what Gavin would do to find her, maybe even trace her credit cards. She grabbed her duffle from the car and her purse, which she had accidentally left in her car the night before.

Reaching her room on the ground level (in case she needed to jump out her window if Gavin or the police found her), Ash heaved a sigh and flopped backwards onto the bed. The lodgings might be a huge step down from where she usually stayed, but right now security and a bed were more important then luxury. Besides, she'd always felt wasteful when she went on trips with her parents and the three of them stayed in a mansion all by themselves. There were enough rooms that her parents didn't have to see her at all if they idn't want to and Ash could spend an entire fternoon walking the floorplan.
