A Pirate's Life for Me
PG-13 (I upped it. Expect it to be upped again.)

Disclaimer: see previous chapters.
Summary: Instead of just watching Jack go off, Will and Elizabeth dive off after him and join his crew.
Warnings: Future Jack/Will slash, character death (though I'm not saying who, you can probably guess. You'll find out in either this chapter or the next.)
*~*~*~*
Captain Jack Sparrow immediately swaggered over in his usual I'm-half-drunk-yet-graceful manner and peered through the telescope that Anamaria handed him. Looking out into the horizon, he inwardly swore as he saw an English military ship heading in their direction.
Ordering the crew to lower the sails and get out the sweeps, he went back to the helm to steer out of the ship's path.
"What's going on?" Elizabeth demanded to know as she was offered to help lower the sails.
"Norrington has finally caught up with us," answered Gibbs.
"Damnit," Elizabeth swore before reaching out to help pull down the sails. She somewhat regretted becoming a pirate, but anything to be with the man she loved. Not like he seems to love you as much as he did a week ago, her mind taunted. She clenched her teeth and pulled down a bit harder than necessary, pulling the tattered black cloth down on her. She growled as she pushed it off her before folding it up.
Anamaria looked over at her from where she was looking through the telescope and watching the Dauntless' progress and muttered, "She 'as got t' be the worst pirate me ever seen." After that was said, she put the glass back up to her eye and watched as they loaded the cannons.
"Cap'n!" she hollered over the loud boom that signaled the first shots being made. "They've opened fire!"
"Return fire!" Jack ordered, thinking Well, obviously now. Then, a cannon ball hit the starboard side of the Pearl, causing it to rock violently. "Stop puttin' holes in me ship!" he yelled.
The sweeps were pulled back in as the cannons were loaded, and over the retorting blast, he shouted to his crew, "Raise the sails! I want t' get as far outta range o' fire as possible!"
Elizabeth noticed that the life of piracy was a bit too adventurous for her, when all her life she had been expected to settle down. She had wanted a small dose of adventure, yes, but who didn't. This was just too much, and she took the chance and dove into the water, heading for the Dauntless.
"What the hell does she think she's doin'?" Anamaria wondered, watching as the figure of Elizabeth Swann swam away from the Black Pearl as though her life depended on it.
"Looks like she decided that a pirate's life wasn't fer her after all," Jack answered in a normal voice, grateful that the Dauntless had ceased fire for a moment to bring Elizabeth aboard. He was grateful for two reasons: one - they stopped putting holes in his beautiful ship, and two - his throat was beginning to ache from shouting.
Will stood in shock, watching, as they passed by, Norrington and Elizabeth embrace. So, she had chosen the rich, charming Commodore over a poor, lower-class blacksmith - now pirate. Well, this solved the problem of him having to someday leave her. After all, she had just proven that she would rather settle down and live in luxury than live a life of adventure and work - the life of piracy. Well, that was just fine. Ever since the kiss, he had known that, despite years of infatuation - misread as love, she was not the one for him. He had heard that when someone kissed their soul mate for the first time, there was passion, and the person saw brightlorflorful lights exploding before their eyes. Sure, the kiss was nice, but it was like kissing any random person - meaningless, with no emotion other than lust; or, rather in this case, infatuation.
Will was shaken out of his thoughts by a work-roughened hand patting his shoulder. He looked over his shoulder into sympathetic brown eyes lined in kohl.
"Don’t worry about yer bonnie lass, mate. She wasn't the one fer ye. A nice bottle o' Rum'll get yer mind off 'er, but not 'till later."
As though on cue, the cannons of both ships began erupting once again, Jack Sparrow going back to hollering, "Stop puttin' holes in me ship!"
*~*~*~*
Sorry if I made Elizabeth seem OOC, but here are my reasons:
She's the Governor's daughter. She's (most likely) never had to lift a finger to do anything. She has maids for that.
Ever since she was young, she had (most likely) gotten everything she had ever wanted. Except to meet a pirate and have an adventure.
She did meet pirates and have an adventure, and let's say that was enough to quench her thirst.
Now, if you were her and changed your mind about your life and decisions and were given a way out of it into loving arms that would dote on your every whim like they always had, would you take it? Most likely.
Potential Flamers and/or Complainers: ye be warned. Punishment is, as our dear Commodore Norrington phrases it, "Short drop, sudden stop".
Constructive Criticism (grammatical, plot [suggestions], how I can improve my writing, etc.): welcome.
Praise/Flattery/Worship: I love it, and the more I get, the more fanfic I get out quicker.
But, as our dear Jack and Gibbs say, "Take all ye can, and give nothin' back." But, I guess I can make an exception for reviewers. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.
