chapter 30
A/N: Okay I’m going to jump a little head in the story. Elizabeth is now 6 months pregnant and she and Jack have been on the run from Will for months now. They finally are forced to settle in a small coastal town in Scotland when Elizabeth starts having complications from her pregnancy. Will they remain safe or will they be discovered by Will? Please read and review!!
Elizabeth closed her tea colored eyes slowly trying to will away the horrible dizziness that had become a way of life as of late. She was exhausted most of the time and it seemed like she was almost never able to keep anything down. Life on the run on top of being pregnant had certainly started to take an enormous toll on Elizabeth. And ever since the start of these awful dizzy spells she could barely remember the last time that she and Jack had been able to make love. It was bad enough always bouncing around from port to port and never staying in the same place for more than a day or two. But now she was forced to go without feeling as close as she possibly could to the one man that she loved the most in the entire world. Elizabeth gripped the railing tighter as she tried to force the dizziness back down into whatever deep recess of her mind that it retreated to when it wasn’t attacking her in full force.
From his place at the helm of the Pearl Jack watched Elizabeth as she stood rigidly at the ship’s railing. As of late she had been unnervingly dizzy and her stomach seemed to be completely turned inside out. He worried that their life on the run from William was starting to take too great a toll on her and their baby. His dark eyes drifted over her petite frame slowly taking in the slight curves to her womanly shape. The only evidence that she was even pregnant was the small bump that had taken shape where her stomach used to be perfectly flat. But Jack knew that she should be showing considerably more than she was…and that could only mean one thing…that something was very wrong with his precious Elizabeth. His eyes shifted back to the dancing sapphire waves of the ocean as he continued to contemplate what his next move should be. They had had several near run ins with William and it was a miracle that he even still had Elizabeth by his side at all. Suddenly Jack’s thoughts were interrupted by the dull sounding thump of something hitting the deck of the Pearl.
His dark eyes widened when he saw Elizabeth lying in a crumpled heap on the deck of the Pearl. From where he stood he couldn’t quite make out if she was breathing. Not even thinking Jack let go of the wheel and raced down the stairs to where Elizabeth was sprawled out on the deck. She was pale…a lot paler than she normally was. Carefully he scooped her into his arms and carried her into their cabin placing her on the bed. Running back out on deck he shouted for Gibbs.
“Gibbs!!”
Gibbs immediately ran up from wherever he had been below decks. Jack ran to meet him grabbing him by the arm and pulling him behind him quickly as he ran back towards the cabin.
“Jack…what in the world?”
“Hurry Gibbs…Izzy’s in trouble!”
Glancing over his shoulder Jack saw Ragetti coming down from the crows nest.
“Ragetti…take the wheel now!”
“Aye sir!”
Ragetti rushed over to the unattended wheel and took hold of it to keep the Pearl sailing smoothly. Gibbs rushed into the cabin behind Jack and stopped short when he saw Elizabeth lying on the bed. She looked deathly pale and he could see the slight glow from the fine sheen of sweat that was glistening on her face. She was sick and it was something terrible…that much was obvious. Turning to Jack Gibbs grasped his shoulders shaking him gently to get his attention.
“Jack…we have t’ make port fast…something ain’t right with her.”
“I know that Gibbs…but what about William?”
“We can’t worry about the boy right now…Elizabeth an’ the baby could be in real trouble Jack.”
“Well if we have t’ make port quick…where the hell are we?”
“Not far from Scotland Jack…we can make port in Aberdour…I have a friend there.”
“Scotland eh? Alright…go take the wheel an’ get us there as quick as possible…savvy?”
“Aye Jack.”
Gibbs rushed out of the cabin to do as he had been told leaving Jack alone with Elizabeth. Taking her hand in his as he knelt by the bedside Jack brought her hand up to his mouth pressing his lips against her soft skin gently.
“Please wake up love…I can’t do this without ye…yer all I’ve got savvy?”
Sighing heavily Jack laid his head down on the edge of the bed still holding tightly to Elizabeth’s hand. He just couldn’t lose her…not now…not after all they had risked to be together. Jack had gotten so used to having Elizabeth around that he wasn’t certain that he could manage without her. Squeezing his dark brown eyes shut tightly he pushed that horrible thought as far from his mind as he could. He wouldn’t think about losing her because he was going to do everything he possibly could to keep her with him.
A/N: Sorry for such a short chapter…I’m trying to decide what should be wrong with Elizabeth. Any suggestions as to what should be causing her dizzy spells and fainting? Please send me suggestions and let me know what you think of the story!!
