Chapter 3 – Blue, White, and Green
Will brought Jackie to the local seamstress and asked if she had any clothing that might fit Jackie. After measuring the girl, the seamstress brought out a beautiful dress, a corset, and petticoats. “The lady I made this for died of a fever before picking it up.” She presented a pair of slippers. “I had these made to go with it.” They haggled price just a bit, and Will gave her the money. Jackie went behind a screen with the seamstress and when she came out, Will almost fainted. She was even more beautiful than he’d imagined.
The dress was a deep blue with white trim and white slippers. Jackie was beside herself. “It’s beautiful. Are you sure you want to do this?”
Will smiled. “Oh yes. A beautiful dress to go with a beautiful lady.” He took her arm and they left the store, heading for the hairdresser.
Once combed out, washed and cut, and makeup added to perfect the look, Jackie was truly the most beautiful woman that Will had ever seen, and he was pleased to tell her so, making her blush. Will pocketed the trinkets that were taken from her hair. Then they walked to what Will knew was Elizabeth’s favorite restaurant and sat down to lunch.
It took twenty minutes of waiting and eating, but finally, Elizabeth and a friend of hers entered and were seated not very far from Will and Jackie’s table. Will smiled and took Jackie’s hand. “You, milady, are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met in my life, and I’d be honored and delighted if you would be my wife.”
Taken completely aback, Jackie smiled. “You are as loving as you are comely and generous, but we’ve only known each other for one day.”
“May I then court you and prove my worth?” Will could see that Elizabeth was fuming. Even she could recognize that Jackie was prettier than she was.
“I would be delighted, Will.” Elizabeth’s face was getting red with jealousy and anger.
Will brought Jackie’s hand to his lips and kissed it gently. He pretended to just notice Elizabeth and rose, bowing to her. “Mrs. Norrington! What a surprise to see you! I’d like you to meet Lady Jacqueline Smythe. She’s here visiting from London, but I’d very much like her to stay...wouldn’t you? You’d have a new friend around your age to talk to.
Elizabeth harrumphed and stomped out. Her friend sat there, shocked. “I wonder what has gotten into Elizabeth?”
“I wouldn’t know. Does she act like that often? She never used to do that.” Will was beside himself with glee, but wasn’t going to show it.
“Never.”
Will introduced Jackie to Elizabeth’s friend, Anne. Both ladies curtsied to each other, and Anne excused herself to go find out what was wrong with Elizabeth.
Will helped Jackie to sit down again, and took a seat. They took their time finishing the lunch, and Will paid for it, bubbling with glee at just how jealous Elizabeth was and at how beautiful Jackie was.
Will walked Jackie back to the smithy. “Thank you so much for everything, Will. It’s all so wonderful. I’m sure I’ve never worn anything like this.”
Will couldn’t get over her beauty. He wanted so much to keep her forever. Will kissed her hand again. “You deserve it. You are TRULY the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met.”
“Who was Mrs. Norrington. She wasn’t very friendly, was she?”
“She’s Commodore Norrington’s wife, and the reason I was in the tavern last night...and many nights before that. I used to love her, before she married the Commodore. But you’ve changed that for me. You are beautiful and friendly and perfect. I wasn’t joking that I’d like to make you my wife. I know I’ve only known you for less than a day, but you seem so familiar to me...and I don’t want to let you go. I love you.”
Jackie frowned. “So you used me to make her jealous?”
Will blushed. “Partially, but believe me that I meant every word I said to you with my heart and soul. Please stay here with me and marry me.”
“As I have nowhere else to go, I’ll stay, but though you are comely, kind and loving, I’d like to get to know you better before marrying you. And you should get to know me better. Who knows? I may BE a whore. I just don’t remember.”
“Well I know you’re not one.”
That night, Will didn’t jump when she crawled into bed with him, though they didn’t make love. They fell asleep together in each other’s arms, cuddling.

Note: Sorry about the length...I'll post the next chapter right after I find out what people think of this one...due to problems with aff's review button not too long ago, there was nothing to tell me if anyone liked what I'd written. Hopefully it works now.
