Disclaimer:
I do not own the Matrix movie series, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.

Editor's Note:
This is (ta-daaa!!!), the chapter which my buddy - Cyren - wrote. It deals with some background story on her characters. Like I said, she'll be helping to write this story. Some chapters will be exclusively written by her, others just by me, and for the most part, we both came up with the plot. I'll always mention which chapters were submitted by her, just to - of course - give credit where credit is due (to her mad mad writing skillz). Anyway, here you are - the continuation....

Cyren looked at Cat and then back around the corner at the retreating back from her past. She closed her eyes and sighed.
“His name is Jonathan. He’s still plugged in.”
Cat knew what that meant. The Matrix always kept tabs on those who left it, and should they try to contact those left behind they may find themselves face to face with an Agent and not with a loved one. Once you are unplugged, you can never contact those left behind.
“It’s been almost two years since I was unplugged. I’m sure he’s forgotten about me by now.”
Cat looked at Cyren’s eyes and knew she still cared for him.
“Well, come then,” Cat said, “tell me what happened.”
“We met through a cousin of mine. She was dating his best friend at the time. I was visiting my family in England when we met. At first, I wouldn’t give him the time of day. I mean, after all, he was English and I am Irish. He used to tell me we were meant to be and once I came to terms with that, it would all work out. When my father took a job in America, he transferred to Princeton to remain close to me. He’s two years older than me and we were waiting until after I graduated college before we got married. But then, senior year, I discovered the truth. I had always been into computers and gotten drawn into becoming a hacker. When they offered me the truth, I took it. But if I had known for one moment that it would mean I could never see Jon again, I would have never done it.”
“What has he been doing since?” Cat asked.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on him. After I disappeared, he’s been trying to find me. He even has been following my electronic footsteps, tracing my path up to the day of my disappearance. He’s become quite a hacker since I’ve been gone. It’s quite funny actually. He was always the surfer type, going to Australia for the summer and all over the world to catch a wave. But not anymore. Now he sits in front of my old computer with my notebooks going over everything I did.”
“I guess he hasn’t forgotten you then, has he?” Cat asked.
“I seriously doubt it. I wish he would move on and yet I don’t him him to. If the machines came and offered me a chance to go back in, I would take it.”
As the two of them stood there, they both were thinking how destiny had brought them to this point. Cat had been unplugged longer than Cyren, but she too felt a pull in the Matrix. She could understand how Cyren felt, but she didn’t know just yet what she could do to help. Since Jon was two years older than Cyren and she was 23, that put him way over the unplugged age. Even Cyren shouldn’t have been pulled out at 21, but she was unusually good at hacking and they knew she would learn to adapt. It was funny though, because for two years they had been partners and Cat never knew just how unhappy Cyren really was.
Cyren’s phone began to ring and as she answered it, Cat looked around to see if they were being watched.
“Second Street and Lime, I’ve got it. Thanks.”
Hanging up the phone, Cyren reaches up to brush the bright red hair out of her face. She looks around the corner but the back she is looking for is long gone. She clips the phone back on her belt and turns to face Cat.
“We’ve got to go. Sentinels are headed towards the ship. Today’s field trip is over.”
