Chapter 4

Sarah gasped as she bounced on the bed and hurried to scramble off. Yet for some reason, the bed
grew to an enormous size and seemed to fill the entire room. Her breath caught in her throat as her eyes
settled on the Goblin King, standing above her with a predatory smile on his face.

She tried standing up, but he quickly put a single boot-covered foot on her chest.

“What the hell?!” cried Sarah, trying to remove his boot from her chest when suddenly, he was pinning
her down, a deadly glare in his mismatched eyes. Her head spun. How had he moved so fast?

He smiled down at her attempt to struggle as she whimpered helplessly beneath him. Pinning her wrists
above her head, his lips descended to her ear.

“Now,” he purred. “How shall I punish you?”

“Don’t,” she whispered raggedly.

“Hmmm?” he prodded. “Any ideas?”

“Don’t,” she said it louder.

“Now that I have you forever in my grasp Sarah, I simply must make some use of you,” his breath was
soft on her ear and she heard herself gasp as his hip bones grinded into hers. “I simply must punish you.
You have been quite the naughty little girl. So what shall it be, love?”

She was starting to panic now and struggled against him with all her might.

“Let me go home!” she cried.

“That doesn’t sound like a punishment,” Jareth smiled against her cheek.

“I don’t care,” she said through hot tears, “I want to go home.” And finally became still, breathing hard
from her attempts to escape.

“Aw now, now,” Jareth soothed mockingly. “Don’t cry, child. Everything will be alright. This is your
home now and we’ll all be a big happy family, just you, me, and the goblins.”

Sarah cried harder, closing her eyes. She hated herself at that moment. She promised that she would
not show weakness in front of the Goblin King. The truth was, however, that she was weak. She was
very weak from the last escape. It had drained her fully and left her in an empty shell. There was
nothing left except for her tears and they did little to provoke his sympathy.

“Cry, love, cry,” he said to her through gritted teeth. “You won’t have enough tears to cry after I’m
through with you. I’ll make you pay, I swear it.” And then suddenly he was no longer on top of her and
the bed had returned to it’s normal size and she was alone in his room.

“I know you’re there!” she screamed. “And I know you can send me home! So send me home
dammit!” She was seething now.

He appeared in his desk chair across the room, a crystal orb elevating above an elegantly upturned
palm. He suddenly sent it flying towards her at full speed. It exploded as she ducked down and was hit
by a shower of glass that disappeared. Yet it’s mark was visible. Blood rolled down her cheek from a
cut.

She pressed her fingers to her cheek and looked at her blood stained hand, then at him.

“What cut?” he asked and waved his hand. The blood disappeared from her hand. There was no more
cut, no more blood, and the orb was in his hand.

He cleared his throat. “So I decided on your punishment,” he smirked.

She was silent and looking away from him.

“At first, I thought of making you my personal assistant,” he said, “But then that was just too cliche,
right? Then I thought of throwing you in the Bog of Eternal Stench, but then you would make the entire
castle reek. And then I thought of something brilliant, something perfect for you. I know it may not
sound as looming and horrible as I promised, but trust me, once you’ll understand the humor of this
kingdom, you’ll know what I meant.”

Sarah’s eyes slowly moved to meet his.

“Congratulations Sarah,” Jareth’s grin broadened, “You are going to be the new jester of my court.”
