An alternative fate
Two hours later they were called to the main council chamber. Anakin and Obi-wan went to stand in the centre of the room facing the council, but were immediately told to do other wise. Mace commented “take your usual seats.” Anakin paused and asked “you mean I’m still permitted to sit with the council, even doe the reason I was permitted to do so in the first place was because of the chancellor? And even doe I'm not a master or official member of the council?”
Yoda nodded and said “young Skywalker you will soon be permitted to join the council as a master and permanent member if you past through the trials without any problems. But currently I sense disturbed you are young Skywalker.”
Anakin and Obi-wan took their seats. They all noticed Mace looked a little more worse for wear then he had in the previous hours before he confronted the now ex-chancellor. Mace Windu began the meeting “it was brought to my attention by Anakin Skywalker a current senior padawan, that our now ex-chancellor Palpatine is in fact the leader of the sith. Indeed his assumptions had been correct. Skywalker came straight away to his master after today when Palpatine propositioned him into becoming his apprentice. Thankfully he denied Palpatine is request and refused to join him and be taught the way of the dark side of the force.”
He sighed and continued “unfortunately I was unable to arrest him, he and I got into a lightsabre jewel. He shot a strong bolt of the force at me and I reflected it off my own sabre. It hit him, and has now weakened him and left him disfigured. Before I could stop him he smashed the window of his office and escaped into on going traffic in a waiting craft being drove by a droid.”
Yoda turned to Anakin and asked him to confirm what he had learned. Anakin let out a wearily sigh and explained “he revealed to me his knowledge of the dark side of the force. He promised to teach me all that was to be known of the dark side, after I had explained to him that I was being plagued with nightmares of my wife dieing in child birth. He claimed if I joined him he would help teach me how to prevent her and others from dieing. I turned against him and refused his offer after my wife had expressed her distress over such knowledge. She insisted I was to break all ties with the chancellor as he went against what I have been brought up to believe in and live by.”
He continued “he also kept claiming the Jedi council intended to over take the senate and the republic. He had demanded that I was to kill all the Jedi, the younglings included. I promised to do so, but honestly had no intentions of following though on such a promise. He is one person I feel does not deserve my honesty and trust. I immediately went to my master and that was when I and he spoke to Master Windu.” He added “he had insisted I was to be put on the council to spy on you. I accepted but had no intentions of following through with his plan. I merely acted as if I were to make him think I was on his side, until I had gathered enough information against him to give to the council.”
Mace and Yoda nodded Mace asked “and who is this wife and the mother of your unborn child? And how long has this been going on without the council’s knowledge?” Anakin exchanged a look with Obi-wan who nodded for him to go on. Anakin sighed and explained “my wife and the mother of my unborn child his senator Amidala.” He continued “she and I were married in secret on the day that war was first declared. We were married by a Naboo holy man. The only other two who witnessed the union was C3PO, the droid I built and created on Tatooine when I was a child. And the other witness was R2-D2.
Senator Amidala is seven months pregnant, since the beginning of the month. Please I beg of you not to separate us and forbid our marriage. My marriage does not affect my performance and dedication to the order, I more then proved that today, did I not? She and my master are the reason I survived the war as long as I have, without their caring and encouragement I would have unfortunately never made it this far.”
Obi-wan spoke up “I’m in agreement with Anakin. His marriage to the senator could have quite easily clouded his mind and judgement. He could have easily turned against us the council. Imagine the person you love dearly is the constant main attraction of your nightmares, and they are dieing in child birth in said nightmares? Imagine that someone makes assumptions that they can prevent said events from occurring, only if you join the dark side and betray those that you love and have trusted since child hood?
Make your decisions wisely, not only will you be destroying a loving marriage, even doe such a union is forbidden, a loving union it is. Worse you will be depriving an innocent child and very much likely a future Jedi of a deserving father.”
Obi-wan knew he had quite possible set him self up for more heart break, he could sense it. ~oh force, help me I love him so much. But if he is happy then I shall put my own feelings a side, my Ani deserves all the happiness in the world. If that means my heart being shattered then so be it~
Unbeknownst to Obi-wan all the council members, apart from Anakin who was still caught up in his own turmoil, heard and sensed Obi-wan’s thoughts. They were stunned. Masters Yoda and Mace had known of Obi-wan feelings for his apprentice, but they had no idea his love ran so deep and so true. Even the normally unflappable Mace and Yoda were astounded.
Anakin held his breath as Mace asked “those in favour of allowing Padawan Skywalker and Senator Amidala to remain married” Every hand rose without hesitation, he added “ all apposed” much to Anakin’s delight and relief not one hand was raised.
Yoda nodded “then it is settled young Skywalker, approve the council does of your marriage to Senator Amidala.” Mace added “now it will be arranged for you to take the trials in the next couple of days to come. And if you pass, then you will be knighted and awarded a position on the master’s council as a master. I and the other members now feel that you have proved you can be trusted and have what it takes to be a Jedi and master. You proved that to day. And you also earned my undivided trust.” The other members including Obi-wan and Yoda nodded their complete agreement.
Anakin smiled subdued and said “thank you, I’m honoured you think I’m ready, I shall not give you any reason to rethink your decision.”
Anakin was truly happy but he couldn’t help but think he had heard bits and pieces of Obi-wan’s thoughts. Oh well, if it had been of importance surely Obi-wan would tell me later on. What he did not realise or could have ever possibly imagined that he would in later years to come, remember Obi-wan’s thoughts word for word.
