Chapter 4: Night Talk:
NEXT DAY
Mio stretched languidly and yawned as she walked downstairs towards her breakfast.Ter’irc had been very upset last night, demanding to know where she had gone and what had caused to run so late. Mio had assured her father that she had just been enjoying the night so much, that she had lost track of time. She also told him that nothing had happened to her. After all, she was in one piece. All he could do, after her response, was groan with annoyance, and tell her not do it again. was add a little
Now, her body was tense with anticipation. For when the night came, she could see him, the “vampire” or Raven, as he called himself. She had so many questions to ask him. However, she could feel that he didn’t really like her that much, but all that she could do about that was to try to get to know him better. She had waited ten years, and now that she had seen him again, she was not going to let him get away.
“Good morning Mi’yori” a voice purred in her ear.
Mio shook her head to escape from her musings. Her stepmother was the culprit behind the whisper in her ear. She didn’t care much for her, but tried her best to respect her, for her father’s sake. Mio hated it when she called her by her full name. In fact, she disliked it when her step mother talked to her in general. She could only guess that the reason behind this emotion was that she didn’t like any woman, other than her mom, being with her father. So, she tried her best not to give her a hard time. After all, she was good to her two brothers and her own son. She tried her best to be a good mother to Mio, but Mio just wouldn’t let her in.
The only response Mio had for her stepmother’s breathy salutation was a sighed “Good Morning.”
Mio then sat down to eat quietly, and observed Iri’ca purring softly to her son. Even though Mio didn’t really like her, she had very beautiful forest green eyes, long black dreadlocks that fell down to her waist, and she had the perfect shape for a female that had just completed bearing a child. There wasn’t any a wonder why Mio’s father would choose her to be his mate. Iri’ca occasionally exhibited a nice personality, which should have made the package seem even sweeter.
“You were out late last night,” Iri’ca said removing Mio from her musings once more. “your father and I were very worried about your wellbeing.”
“I know, Mio replied “I was just enjoying the sunset, and lost track of time.”
“You shouldn’t be that late again. What in the world would make you stay out that late?”
Before Mio could respond, her two little brothers Di’lo and Lea’di ran in the room screaming like a pack of wild animals.
“Ha ha! I win!” Lea’di shouted.
“No fair! You got a head start!” pouted Di’lo.
Lea’di the middle child and Di’lo the youngest, were both just about two years apart. Lea’di was three years younger then Mio, and Di’lo was five years her junior. Even though they were 17 and 15, they still acted like they were pups. Constantly picking on one another and getting into fights. It was their way of showing one another affection. Unlike Mio they had accepted Iri’ca right away. They said that she seemed to be a nice person, and even though Mio disagreed, she knew that her brothers were just like their father. So, perhaps they were right, but she didn’t care to find out if she was wrong.
“I didn’t get a head start, your just a slow little pup!” snapped Lea’di.
“You pauk-de! Take that back!” growled Di’lo.
“Make me!”
With that they started to wrestle one another to the floor. The little baby in Iri’cas arms started to wail and fuss at their noise.
“Boys! That’s enough!” Iri’ca shouted at the two warmongers.
With the distraction Mio quickly finished her meal, and left the house.
IN THE VILLAGE
“Hey Mi’yori! Where have you been?!” shouted a voice.
Mio hated being called by her full name, but she knew who was saying it very well.
“Hi Gwen.” She groaned.
Gwen’di, or as Mio called her for short, Gwen, was pretty much her only, and best, friend. They had known one another since they were pups they were like sisters, virtually inseparable.
“Don’t hi me! You are late. We were supposed to meet here an hour ago.” Gwen said.
“Don’t blame me, I woke up late, and my step mother was asking me the most annoying questions because I got home late last night. I mean I’m 20 years old, I think I can take care of myself!” Mio whined in reply.
“Ohhhh, where were you?”
“I was just looking at the stars.”
“Oh, you are such a bad liar. What really happened?”
“I mean what I said, I was just looking at the stars.”
“Please?” Gwen whined, “I thought that we never kept secrets from one another. Were you out with some hot, young male or something?”
At those words, Mio couldn’t help but blush. At the same time, she wondered why Gwen thought she was lying. Gwen saw the blush and busted out laughing.
“So it’s true! Who was he?! I bet it was that one warrior Drako you always stare at while were training.” She said through her giggles.
Mio just kept walking, only to say “You are a bitch, Gwen.”
Before Mio knew it, a pair of arms went around her middle. “Ahhh Mio, you know I’m joking right? You know that I love you to the bottom of my heart?” she said with a purr.
“Oh shut your mandibles Gwen.” snarled Mio.
“I still think you are lying though.” She teased.
“And if I am?” Mio kept walking.
“I knew it!”
“Let’s get going, we have training to do.”
“Tell me!”
“If you can catch me!” With that, Mio took off with a short burst of speed.
“You better tell me!” Gwen started to chase after her.
They had almost reached the doors of the training dome, when Gwen tackled Mio.
“Tell me!” Gwen shouted through her panting.
“Fine, but you better not tell anyone.”
Mio told her Gwen her story from the previous night, from the bad bloods chasing her to the vampire giving her his name.
“Wow, you’ve got to be joking. What is a vampire?” Gwen asked.
“He said that it’s some kind of demon.” Mio replied.
“And you believed him?”
“He seemed serious enough.” Mio shrugged.
“So are you really going to meet him tonight?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sure you just didn’t dream this?”
“No, it was all real Gwen. I saw him ten years ago, and I am going no matter the price.”
“I just hope you don’t get hurt, killed, or worse, get your feelings hurt, by this guy.”
“I won’t. You know me by now Gwen, tough as blade metal. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have training to do.”
Mio went to train with the young males.
……………………………….......................................................................
THAT NIGHT
It was about ten minutes before midnight. Mio had told her father that she was going to visit Gwen, and would be back late. As she walked, she watched the stars and admired their beauty. She looked ahead of her as the gentle sounds of falling water became louder. She gently removed the brush blocking her way, and saw, what she believed to be, an amazing sight.
The whole area was blanketed in moon light. The water glistened as moonlight shined down upon it. But, what Mio’s eyes were glued on was the demon bathing in all this beauty. Literally, Ravens’ snow white skin shined with the water that glistened upon his body. His jet black hair swayed back and forth as he rinsed off his rather muscular chest. His eyes seemed soft, but serious, as if he were thinking about something important.
Mio was so focused that she didn’t even noticed the deep red forming on her cheeks. Raven looked up at the moon and sighed.
“You know that it is midnight right, you can come out now.” The vampire called out softly to Mio.
Mio felt like her heart was about to explode from her chest, but she didn’t need for him to call again. She came out and sat on one of the many large rocks. She was still blushing from embarrassment.
“Did you actually think I didn’t notice you there?” Raven asked. Though the question was supposed to be serious, she could tell he was more amused then anything else. He disappeared from the cool water of the falls, Mio blinked, then jumped when he appeared right next to her.
“Now, as you requested, you wished see me in order to ask more questions, well ask away.” The vampire said sounding rather bored.
“Well, first, I forgot to introduce myself. My name’s Mi’yori, Mio for short.” She said.
“I know.” He replied.
“How?” Mio asked.
“I know a lot more than what you think I do. ”
“Like what?”
“Like how you are the Elder’s daughter for example. You are half human and half yautja for another.”
“How do you know this?”
“I have my ways. I am about 600 years old, and I’ve lived on this planet for about 200 of them.”
“Where were you before?”
“I was on Earth, where I believe your human mother came from. I came here during the war.”
“What about your family?”
“Ha! They’ve been dead for centuries!”
“You don’t even have a mate?”
“I had a “wife” if that’s what your saying, and a few lovers a while after her death. I haven’t committed to anyone since my first bride. Yet, what about yourself? You are of age, isn’t time for you to find one? Or haven’t the suitors been showing up at your door?” He asked intently.
“Oh there have been suitors. Just, they only want me for power and nothing more.” Mio replied
“Ahhhh, that makes sense. It is one of the many reasons why I decided not to find another wife.” Raven nodded.
“Why didn’t you find another?” Mio asked.
“Well there are many reasons.” Raven took a deep breath before continuing. “For one thing, being a vampire, as I said last night I live forever. In order to be a vampire, you more than likely have to be a virgin, or have a contract while still a virgin. Many of the females I lust for are mainly taken of their innocence. Also, you must want it on your own free will. No one can decide for you, the ones that were virgins only wanted to be vampires for all the wrong reasons. Not to be my bride, knowing this I found it pointless to really have close connection. So, I only took lovers, and that is why I am single today.”
“Wow… you must be lonely.” Mio said.
“I’m used to it at this point.”
There was silence for a while. Then, this time, Raven would break the silence.
“Let me ask you something.” He said his blood orbs with a slight intense look.
“Sure” Mio replied.
“You are the heir to an elder, a whole entire clan, I can even tell by your mark that you have completed your test. I have heard that heirs are trained twice as hard as any other class of yautja.” He stated.
“So? What does that have to do with anything?” She asked.
“Last night you were running from those who were your own kind, why didn’t you stay and fight? Even without weapons, you still had the strength to at least to fend them off.” He said.
“I was afraid…” She muttered.
“Of what?!” he asked. “You have, more than likely, defeated far worse than them. What would make you so afraid?!”
She glared at him, her eyes burning with anger, yet a hint of sorrow as well. “They were bad bloods!” She snapped. “Bad bloods killed my own mother right before my very eyes! I couldn’t even help her, she told me to run damn it! So, I did. Only to see her get killed! Now, I fear they will come for me and my brothers. I want to kill them, yet I hear my mothers words to run!”
Mio bit her lip to fight back the tears, and then she felt a cold hand touch her cheek.
“You should not feel fear.” Raven spoke in an odd soft tone. “You should feel fire in your heart for what they have done. When they try to harm your clan, rip them limb from limb. You must show that you demand respect, if you want people to follow you. After all, there will be more, and I won’t be always there to save you.”
Mio sighed, “Why did you save me?”
Before her question could be answered he stood up. “Damn it! It’s near sun rise, and I didn’t get to have a meal! I will have to wait for tomorrow.” He groaned.
“I suppose I have to get back, and get a little sleep.” Mio said with a pinch of disappointment.
Raven growled, “I can tell you still have questions, so we will continue this tomorrow.” his coldness returning.
“Here, I thought it was a one night thing.” Mio muttered.
“Well, be happy that I haven’t decided to make you my meal. Do not come to me tomorrow. I will come to you. Until then, fairwell.”
With that he disappeared once more into the darkness leaving Mio to watch him once more.
“Goodbye,” She muttered. “Raven…”
