Chapter Three : You Showed Me
'You showed me how to do
Exactly what you do
How I fell in love with you
Ohhhhh, it's true
Ohhhhh, I love you'
The song began as the lights in the club faded to an greenish-orange glow. Sparkled lights filled the room in a circular motion as everything quieted down. A young lady slowly walked out from behind the curtain in black lingered . She had a plump, imperfect body, very curvy yet very attractive. Her hair short and brown and she had glittering green eyes. Her make-up done as though she were a pin-up girl from the nineteen forties. The look upon her face was expressionless as she walked down the way.
'You showed me how to say
Exactly what you say
In that very special way
Ohhhhh, it's true
You fell for me too'
When she reached the pole, she wrapped one leg around it and spun like a ballerina. The men watched as she swayed around the pole like a free bird in the sky. She reached her arms up to the pole as she gently and seductively shimmied down the walk, arching her back still giving no expression. She bit her bottom lip as she crawled to a man how waved a twenty dollar bill and she let him put it under her garter belt.
'And when I tried it
I could see you fall
And I decided
It's not a trip at all'
She slowly turned her head and went over to a group of drunk men who seemed to be at a bachelor party. They stuffed the lining of her black, laced panties with handfuls of tens and twenties. She smiled at the fools when she suddenly felt a hand stroke her bottom. She turned to see an elderly man with a one hundred dollar bill in his hand. She licked her lips crawled to him and smiled.
'You taught it to me to
Exactly what you do
And now you love me too
Ohhhh, it's true
We're in love, we two
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
We're in love, we two
We two'
She gently leaned in very close to him as he smiled a toothy smile at her. His heart jumped when her felt her breasts touch the side of his face.
"I don't usually come to these sort of places, Ma'am." he innocently told her.
"Oh?" she responded and he nodded in awe. "Nothing' to be nervous about, sweetie."
He sighed with a grin as he placed the bill into the other side of her garter. She smiled widely, but felt a little uneasy about taking such a large tip from a helpless old man. She turned back to him.
"Baby, are you sure?"
"Miss, you made my evening." he smiled as did she. She slowly leaned up to his forehead and kissed it.
"Thank you."
And with that, she pushed herself up and swung her hips around and around, collecting more bills from more happily, drunken men. She went back to the pole to do one last swing and she tipped herself upside down like an acrobat and gracefully came down.
'You showed me how to do
Exactly what you do
How I fell in love with you
You showed me how to say
Exactly what you say
In that very special way
You taught it to me to
Exactly what you do
And now you love me too'
She paced back to behind the curtain as she smiled at the next approaching dancer. The lady was tall and dark skinned. Her hair was short and had loose curls. She wore a hot pink teddy and had on leather pumps.
"Good luck, Donna."
"Thanks, Gwen. Anything good out there?" she asked
"A bunch of drunk bachelors and a rich old guy. Be sweet on the old one." she said as she pulled out the money he had given her. Donna's eyes widened.
"Think he'll like a lap dance?" she joked and laughed. "So are you off?"
"Yeah. I have a big blanket and a chocolate bar waiting for me at home."
"Damn, I wish that could be me."
"Well, I better go. Make some money for that little cookie of a daughter of yours."
"I'll try to work my magic. Goodnight baby."
"Goodnight, Donna." she said as she smiled and walked off. When she got backstage, she immediately went to her mirror and gathered some of her things and her purse. She glanced at the clock. "It's only ten thirty?" she said out loud to herself. From behind, a deep, masculine, voice answered, startling her and causing her to jump.
"Ten thirty indeed." he read her scared expression. "Oh, I'm sorry. Didn't mean to scare you, Gwen." said the tall, thick, muscular, black, bald man.
"No worries. So, Malcolm, what's new with you?" she responded as she got dressed unshyly in front of him into her black A-line skirt and her warm, blue three quarter sleeve top.
"Well, it my boy's birthday in a couple of weeks."
"Oh that's right. Thanks for reminding me about Demetri's birthday. Any surprise plans?"
"None yet. He wants this rare comic book that he's been searching for, but I can't find it. I've searched everywhere."
"Oh?" she said as she pulled her shirt over her head and buttoned her pants, "Which comic is it?"
"Umm...Issue twenty-seven from....nineteen-ninety? Yep. Issue twenty-seven from
nineteen-ninety."
Gwen stared at him in shock. She definitely knew of that issue. She didn't know where from, but she knew she remembered it from somewhere
"Wowzers, Malcolm. That's a hard one to come by these days."
"You're tellin' me?" he chuckled. "Ah..I'll find it one way or another. He's wanted it for the longest time."
"Well, I wish you luck. I'll keep an eye out for ya." she said as she pulled on her short trench coat.
"Thank you. Are you ready?" he asked as he lended out his chivalrous arm with a smile.
"Indeed I am, sir." and she took it, steadying herself as she slipped on her black heels, grabbing her purse as they walked out.
The air was cold and crisp. It stung Gwen's lungs for a moment as she put on her green beanie hat and calmed down after a few steps. Gwen and Malcolm were making small talk about his son when they suddenly heard a group of men rambling about. They ignored it, but then their voices got louder and they turned to see them approaching. As Gwen peered to them, she remembered them from inside. The three men stood in front of Gwen and Malcolm, acting tough.
"Hey baby. You got nice titties." said the drunken man, not completely noticing the big black man right beside her. The drunk began to move his hands toward Gwen when Malcolm stepped right into action.
"Back off!" shouted Malcolm
"Come on, man! Just a tiny squeezer!" and the drunk man along with his friends laughed like a rowdy group of teens.
"Get out of here!" Malcolm growled.
"Fine! Fine, fine, fine! Let's go, guys. This skank isn't that hot anyway."
With the drunk's word, Gwen felt her self-esteem lower down to the ground. She knew that they were plastered, but the words still kind of hurt her on a personal level. She thought,
"Get a grip, Gwendolyn. They're a bunch of dirty, horny, drunks! Who cares what they say."
"You okay?" asked Malcolm, snapping her out of her thought.
"Yeah. I'll be fine. That's the fourth time this week that has happened." she said, opening her car.
"Eh...those guys keep make my job."
"That's a new way of looking at it." she smiled, getting into the car and closing the door. She started the engine and rolled her window down.
"Gwen?"
"Yup?"
"You sure you wanna drive alone? I'm off in an hour. I can drive you." he said in a loving, concerned tone.
"Ohh Mal. That's sweet. But, I'll be okay."
"Are ya sure?"
"Yeah. Don't worry 'bout me. I can handle stuff too, you know."
"Big girl. Get home safely now." he smiled. She blew him a kiss goodnight.
"See you on Friday."
"See you, baby!"
"Hey Malcolm! Happy Halloween!"
"Happy Halloween!"
Gwen pulled out of the strip club. She giggled every time she looked in her side view mirrors at the big neon pink sign.
"The Happy Horse." she giggled as she said aloud.
She thought of Malcolm as she drove off. He was the sweetest man. So very protective. They've known each other for years now. Since Gwen turned eighteen and began to dance at The happy Horse which Malcolm had worked at already. They shared secrets and stories and always cracked jokes on people. The place was her family and she was not ever ashamed to say that she worked there. Granted it wasn't her dream job, put she was good at what she did and hey, it supported her greatly. She even had enough to start another savings account for college in the future.
On the drive home, she saw the occasional teenagers still dressed in their costumes. She smiled at them. So young and carefree. She saw the streetlights glimmer on the sidewalks, making the fallen leaves glow. The smell of autumn filled the night air. How she loved that smell. It just reminded her of one of the only good memories she had as a child. She couldn't quite remember it, but she knew she loved it.
When she turned onto the street a block away from her house, she heard a clanking noise coming from her engine. She took notice of her car eerily slowing down and let out a huge growl.
"Don't do this to me! NO! We are only a block away! Come on sweet cheeks! One more block." and she tried to stop and start up the car again and again.
The car stopped. She sat still in an angered silence.
"You son-of-a-bitch! I just spent two hundred dollars in repairs and you STILL quit on me! Dude! One frickin' block AWAY!!!" she pointed to the direction of her house, stupidly expecting the car to respond. "Damn it! Shit. It's nippy out too!" she said as she reached into the glove box and pulled out a flashlight. "I'm leaving you here tonight to think about what you've done. I'll be back in the morning."
The night air chilled her again and she locked and slammed the door shut.
"Great Gwen. You just bitched out you car. Smart." she told herself out loud. She wrapped herself up tightly in her coat and turned the flashlight on and began to walk briskly towards her home.
