So It Would Seem

Author's Note: Sorry this one was so long coming. I was gone for a week. In thek, ek, though, I ouned ned the whole story so I won't get so much writer's block and I've also wrote some parts out of order. For instance, I have 3 parts written that come later. 2 from the middle and the last 2 paragraphs. Lol.

Disclaimer: Jack belongs not to me (Just Johnny... he does!! :-D) Nor does this movie or anything at all. The crew and ship The Devil's Dowry. Those do belong to me. Yay!!

Walking out into the sun, Sage saw that her crew was gathered around Jack. He was in the middle of a story saying “…and then they made me their captain.” and the whole crew’s eyes lit up, as if it were Christmas, with delight. All of them started talking at once, asking him to tell another story until they looked up and seen Sage. They all froze and straightene in in an army-like fashion. She folded her arms and leaned against a wall watching Jack continuse with his story until he realized no one was listening and he too turned to see Sage. “Oh, pardon me, love. I was just tellin’ yer crew some of me stories.” He told her.

Sage stood, unfolded her arms, and walked over to Jack. Clearing her throat she told him “As I am rather sure me crew be very interested in what ye be tellin’ them. It is getting’ rather late, Jack. They need ta be undockin’ the boat. I don’t want ta be in Tortuga after sunset.” Sage then turned toward her crew and made a slight nod with her head, which sent the crew off into directions gettine boe boat ready. She looked back at Jack “Yer sleeping hammock be ready. Christian got it up just ‘fore I came up here. Ye can go ta bed when ye like. We need ya up early in the mornin’ ta help us find the Pearl.” Jack nodded as she continued, “I don’t sleep much.” She told him, “I have terrible back aches and other things that like ta keep me awake at late hours.”

She didn’t really know why she had just told him that, like he really cared. He raised an eyebrow “Aye,” he said, “I don’t like sleep much myself.” A very awkward silence settled between them as they stood there. Sage began rubbing her chin and looking around. Captain Jack started whistling ‘A Pirate’s Life for Me’ and rocking back and forth on his boots. Sage coughed nervously, hoping one of them might find something to say. “Aye. Well, erm, I might be gettin’ along ta try and sleep maybe.” Jack said, finally ending the silence.

“Right.” Sage said nodding and watched as he hurried away.

Christian, who had seemingly been on deck, helping, came over to her and said “Cap’n, we’ll be gettin’ the ship goin’ now. Ye should take the wheel.” Sage didsay say anything, just walked over to the helm and silently started turning the wheel, maneuvering the ship out of the dock and into the ocean. Dusk set on the water as the ship sailed farther and farther out. The crew was up and down all night. Some asleep, some awake and finally the only 2 on deck were Sage at the wheel and Kain, who was setting over in a dark corner, on the top of a barrel, playing a pan flute.

“Kain, h thh the wheel, I’m goin’ ta go get me a rum. Aye?” Sage said.

He made a noise that was nothing but a grunt. Sage had learned to take this as yes, so she walked off to go to her cabin to get a bottle. Opening the door, she could already hear the snoring of her baby brother and whatever god awful sound Jack was making in between his mumbles. Softly, as to not awaken either of them, she tiptoed over to her trunk, opened it, and got a bottle of rum. Slowly, she turned and made her way out of the cabin and back outside. Kain was still playing his flute as she walked back over to the wheel.

Tension filled the air like a great fog, neither of them were speaking and even the pan flute seemed tense. Sage rubbed her chin and turned the wheel, keeping the ship steady. Noticing that Kain was playing “Danny Boy” she began to sing along in a whisper. It seemed a silent apology between the two that neither of them realized. The night crept on slowly. Sometime in the early morning, just before sunrise, Kain got up off the barrel and walked toward the cabin. Sage
was left alone on the dock.

Not long after there was stirring behind her and she turned to face Captain Jack Sparrow. “I thought ye didn’t sleep much. That was certainly a long nap.” She said to him, lifting an eyebrow.

He yawned and rubbed his head, sitting down on a nearby box. He shook his head “I don’t usually. I was tired. I would have slept longer too if it weren’t for ye’re first mate and the noises he be makin’ in his sleep. It could wake the dead.”

Sage nodded, knowing exactly what Jack meant by ‘the noises’. “Aye.” She said, “he’s been bad off ever since the scar on his eye. Me thinks he keeps replaying the battle in his head.” Her voice and eyes were far off, not at all on the ship with Jack, Somewhere else.

Jack looked up at her. His eyebrows came down in concern. ‘Does she even know what she’s saying to me?’ Jack thou He He coughed nervously, trying to get her attention, to no avail. “Love?” He said, “What battle be ye talkin’ about?”

She shook her head, coming out of a daze, angrily she said “Huh? Well, it’s really none of ye’re business.”

He shrugged, slightly surprised by the outburst, “Aye. Ye brought it up, lass, not I, but if that be the was ye want things who be I ta say any different.” He toyed with his moustache.

Sage nodded. “Right. Who be ye?” She kept turning the wheel, sometimes left, sometimes right. Every so often she would sneak a look at Jack who looked kind of hurt. “Alright.” She sighed, “I’ll tell ye.” The sudden speech made him jump at first and then he nodded, signaling her to continue. “Well,” she told him, “It’s a rather long story. You see, we be after one thing. We want ta catch up with The Black Pearl. We not be wantin’ gold or fancy jewels or the ship herself. What we be after is one single crewmember. His name be “Vicious” Grogg Jarvy. Jarvy be not his real surname. That’s Harmon. He be me father. Me brother and I are after him. We want him dead for past injustices to me mother.”

Jack nodded to show he was listening “I understand.” He told her, “Word of advice, though, dove. If ye believe in the stories of ghosts and ghouls I’d get ta them as fast as possible. Very soon they plan on takin’ a treasure that don’t belong ta them. I wouldn’t worry none, ‘cause I don’t believe in twaddle such as that. That’s why theymittmitted mutiny. Wanted the treasure to themselves. Greedy blighters.”

She smiled slightly “Aye. I’ve heard about the treasure. I plan on reaching them ‘fore that happens. Unlike you, I’ve seen too many things to not believe in the impossible, Captain Sparrow.”

“I figured as much.” He said to her, “You seem like the kind who likes to argue.”

She giggled and nodded “Aye. That I do. Back ta the story though; we actually caught up with The Pearl. They came to Tortuga, as I am sure ye have heard. We were there and there in the street we battled them. Both sides many had casualties at the end. They started the fire in the old part of town. I’m sure ye know the story up ‘til then. Well, what ye probably haven’t heard is I almost died that day. Grogg, my own father… Da, as I call ‘im. Da was my opponent. I, well, I almost killed him, but I let him up and told him ta get outta town. He seemed ta be greatful, but I turned my back and he almost killed me. Kain saved me. He was fighting Barbossa and seen what was going on.”

She smiled at the memory and coughed before continuing, “He turned just in time to stop Da’s sword. He saved me, but in the process he got Barbossa’s sword in his side and Da’s sword had enough time ta scar his eye. He saved me life that day and I had Gabriel carry him back to the ship after the battle and I bandaged him up and looked after him. I let Da get away. I was an idiot.” She shook herd ind in regret.

Jack nodded. “At least ye both made it out alive. The pirates of The Pearl are no one ta be dealt with easily.”

Sage sighed “Aye.” She looked toward the sky. “Sun will be up in a short while. Ye ready ta show me the way.”

“So it would seem.” Jack said in a whisper.
