Jesse was positively seething. Of all the asinine, stupid, moronic….
Her eyes ached from scanning the ground for the shine of plastic in the moonlight. And her hands were sticky from the juices of countless bushes she’d impatiently shoved around.
She’d passed Kevin, Luke, and even Beth a few times. Jesse was grudgingly relieved that the other counselors had SOME priorities.
She swung around the back of the cabin….and there he was again.
Jesse froze.
Jason looked at her critically. This….kind of felt odd. But this tactic had worked before. All he had to do was stand here quietly and the girl would do something BAD and he’d be able to kill her. A small nagging thought whispered that that wasn’t really fair….
“Who are you?” Jesse asked.
Jason just tilted his head. Any second now….
Jesse folded her arms and slowly approached the mysterious figure. He was enormous. She looked him over.
*Odd* She thought. *His arms look….burned, scarred, and then scarred again. I wonder…*
And suddenly it made sense. He’d been in a horrible accident! No wonder he wore a hockey mask! He must have been horribly disfigured all over!
Jesse averted her eyes. Not wishing to stare.
“Do you live around here?” She asked.
Jason was having difficulty. What was he supposed to do now? Should he just kill her? His hands flexed in anticipation.
Wait.
He had an idea.
“What’s this?” Jesse asked as the man slowly extended his hand towards her.
She reached out to accept.
Jason stiffened as the girls thumb grazed one of his cold fingers. But it was okay. It was in her hands. Very soon now….
Jesse gasped. “How did you find this?” Her fingers slid over the plastic bag holding Luke’s stash.
“Is it all here?” She asked.
Jason surprised himself by nodding slightly. His hand tightened on the machete held just out of view behind his leg. If the girl took any of the drugs, he was going to kill her for being bad. If she returned the drugs to Luke, she was bad. Feeling a little smug about this new trick, Jason waited.
Jesse held the bag in her hands. Her eyes narrowed at the contents. This was a whole lot closer than she liked to be to this kind of stuff. She was convinced there were better and healthier ways to “relax”.
She thought about what to do. If she gave this stuff back to Luke, he might go and misplace it again. This time with terrible consequences. And she didn’t want to give it back to this “Good Samaritan” either.
She had an idea.
Kneeling on the ground, she felt around in the dark for a couple of rocks. After finding them, she worked the bag between them and started grinding the stones together, pulverizing the contents.
Jason was confused. Again. It was getting to be a habit. Not one he liked much either. What was she doing? When she stood up and began walking away quickly, Jason pursued. Clearly she was attempting an escape. She wanted to go somewhere private so she could be bad without others watching. Bad was bad. Jason wasn’t letting her out of his sight.
When she turned to go into the common bathroom, she looked at him and smiled. He’d expected displeasure of some kind. Instead…if he had breath, that smile would have taken it away.
No.
She was trying to distract him. Resolved, he followed her into the bathroom.
Jesse dumped the powdered drugs into the sink and turned on the water. For good measure, she washed the inside and outside of the bag with soap and water as her odd guest watched.
She turned and buried the baggie deep in a trashcan.
“I wanted to thank y…” She began as she turned back to the imposing figure.
He was gone.

Jason had never really been frustrated like this before. He found himself snapping the twigs on the bushes with his fingers as he walked past them. It was a minor expression of irritation and restlessness, but seeing as it was him…it was HUGE.
That girl was absolutely confounding. He vaguely recalled a saying of his Mother’s. Give someone enough rope, and they will go and hang themselves….or something like that.
Well, that’s sort of what he’d tried to do….how did it backfire?
Deep within Jason's body….something was waking up and taking notice.
