5, End

The time had come, the gunshots from the guard room echoed below, drawing the interest of all of them. Only Riddick reacted, leaping onto the rope where the merc hung, and Cyn sat on her ledge, admiring the flow of his body as he climbed. When the buzzer rang, announcing the doors opening, Guv, Kyra, Cyn and a few others were the only ones brave enough to venture up there.

The scene they came upon wasn’t too surprising, given the sounds they had heard. It appeared that the guards had fled, and as Riddick summed things up as he saw them, Cyn nodded slightly, agreeing.

Things happened fast after that, they raised the guard room to the top, and crashing glass was loud. Cyn had to shake her head as Kyra took the hard way. Nobody felt bad for the merc when his throat was torn out by the guard dog, and all but perhaps Cyn and Kyra were shocked at the tenderness that Riddick showed the fallen hound, covering his body with the cloak from the dead man. She took this time to braid her hair, tying it at the end to keep it out of her face.

With her shorter legs, she had to work harder to keep up then the men, but she did it a lot better then a few of them, finding herself a good spot in the middle of the group. The sound of gunshots from the caps of the tunnels wasn’t too shocking, but she wasn’t hit, neither were Kyra or Riddick, and they kept going.

Over the mountain, Riddick pulled her up at the top, and she gave him a smile. “Thanks..”

He grunted, and the sun started to peak. She dove into the shade, handing him her water, and joining Guv as he descended the other side. Shortly after they had started climbing another short hill, she saw a hand grab Guv’s ankle.

“Dead mouth.” And in the silence, as Riddick climbed to the peak to look ahead, they all heard the low thrumming of the engine.

They readied themselves, and at Riddick’s word they launched themselves forward, attacking the armored men there.

Cyn, back at the guard room had laid claim to a couple side arms and a large knife. She started at the hilltop, firing on them, keeping to shielding rocks when she could, taking advantage of her smaller size when she couldn’t. She ran out of bullets rather quickly, and started to attack with her knife and bare hands.

She wasn’t as muscled as the men that fought with her, and for a long while, she stood and fought on while they fell around her, armored and convicts alike. She made a big mistake, pausing to catch her breath and he got too close. She felt the shot hit her back, and she turned, the adrenaline in her system keeping her on her feet long enough to launch herself at her attacker, slitting his throat, nearly taking his head off in her anger.

As he fell, so did she, landing on her side. She looked up, the last sight that she saw was Riddick, standing with his blades, and she smiled. She hadn’t known him long, but she knew he would live, and that things for him would never be dull. With that thought she took her last deep, rattly breath. It never came back out.
