Chapter 5
Title: Control
Chapter Five
Author: Angelsdee
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Mia, Leon, and Letty depart the scene.
Sleep had yet to visit Leon this night. Unknown to him it was an epidemic that was running rampant over the surrounding acre of land.
‘I can’t rest here. This place reeks of the damned. Of the shit we carried here!’
He left the false security of his bed and prowled his room like a caged lion. He felt as if he was suffocating from an oppressive weight placed on his chest.
‘I can’t stay here. Not now. I need to sort this shit out but I can’t do it here.’
The decision made, he picked up his bag and left his room. As he quietly made his way down the hall, he heard the sound of suffering coming from behind Letty’s door.
He debated on whether he should just continue on to the front door but hearing one of the strongest women he had ever known vocalize her pain stopped him dead in his tracks.
He screwed up his nerve and lightly rapped once on her door. Not even waiting for a response he opened her door and walked in.
“Letty.”
She struggled slightly to sit up and wiped her tears away with a swipe of her arm.
“Leon? What’s going on?”
He shut the door behind him, then turned and walked over to sit on the edge of her bed.
“Baby. We need to talk.”
~*~
Micki walked into her kitchen to find Mia re-reading her letter to Dom. She could feel her tension and understood completely. Walking away from someone like her brother would hurt…and scare anyone.
“Got that note finished up?”
“Yes. I kept it simple like you said. Just told him what I was planning and that I need to do this.”
“Good. We leave for the airport in about 10 minutes. You’re flying to Texas. I arranged for one of my uncle’s to pick you up and then you answer all his questions. He will set the ball in motion and find Brian. It shouldn’t take very long at all.”
“You make it sound so easy.”
“It is.” She stepped back out into the adjoining room for a second and returned with a carry-on bag.
“What’s this?”
“Well I had a feeling you wouldn’t want to go back next door to grab your things so I packed you some clothes and here is some cash to get some more when you get there.”
“Thanks again. Knowing me if I tried to sneak in the house for my stuff I’d make enough noise to get busted.”
“That kind of defeats the whole ‘thief in the night’ thing we got planned, huh?”
They both broke out laughing again. And then Mia suddenly sobered and asked, “what about my ID? I’ll need it to get back into the states.”
“Wrong! Private plane. All you need to do is get your ass on it. When you get to Texas just tell my uncle what you need and you’ll have it.”
“You’re amazing!”
“I’ve been told that before but I never really believed it. I mean you know what is inside of me and it isn’t pretty.”
Mia looked at the woman before her. She was an exotic beauty. She had 3 feet of curly black hair, a dark deep tan on perfect skin, a muscled well-toned body, and those intense black eyes. ‘She reminds me of Dom.’
“On the contrary milady, I think what is inside of you is as beautiful as your outside.”
“Thank you.” Her eyes misted up a bit but she quickly shook it off. “You ready?”
“Yes!”
“Well, let’s head out.”
They walked into the garage and Micki hit the door opener. She walked over to a vehicle covered with a custom fitted tarp and yanked it off. She hit a button on her alarm remote and the locks clicked open.
She opened her door and loaded Mia’s bag in back of her seat and her purse on the floorboard. She noticed Mia hadn’t opened her door yet.
She stood back up and saw a shocked expression on Mia’s face. “What’s wrong?”
“That’s a…”
“Ferrari.”
“It costs…”
“Three hundred thousand dollars. I know. I bought it.”
“You like fast cars?”
“No. Exactly opposite. I hate them.”
“Then why spend 300 large for a car you hate?”
“At first as a test for myself. Now it is just a reminder. Would you get in? We really have to bail.”
They made a 10-minute drive to a private airstrip and stopped near the waiting jet. A man met them at the car and took Mia’s bag on board.
“Give me the letter”, she asked with a choked voice.
Mia handed her the envelope and she turned and tossed it on the front seat. She linked her arm through Mia’s and they headed towards the ramp.
“How are you going to handle Dom and the letter?”
“Hmmm. I was thinking of slipping it under the door and running like hell back to the safety of my place.”
Genuine laughter erupted from the both of them.
Micki got serious and said, “you take care, baby girl.”
“I will. How can I ever repay you?”
“Find Brian and bring him back with you. I want to see you complete.”
“Thank you for everything.”
Micki found herself in a tight embrace and returned it in kind. “You’re welcome. Now go!”
Mia turned and headed up the ramp. When the hatch closed Mikaela headed back to her car. She glanced over as the plane started to taxi down the runway. She closed her eyes and reached out to Mia. ‘Hope.’ She opened her eyes, smiled, and started to get in the car. She picked up the envelope and sat behind the wheel.
She ran the paper through her fingers and thought, ‘this is going to suck! He knows I was with her. There goes the whole ‘slipping it under the door’ scenario.’
She started up the engine and headed for the confrontation with Dom…and herself.
~*~
Leon thought he would have a harder time convincing Letty of leaving but she surprised him.
She listened to all of his reasons for leaving without saying a word. He told her how uncomfortable he was just being under this roof. He couldn’t think here…heal here. So he was leaving and he wanted her to go with him.
She sat there with a blank look on her face. She silently processed everything he said and just when he thought it was no use she said, “grab my bag.”
She got up out of bed and fought to get to her feet. He had both bags in one hand and came over to wrap his free arm around her waist.
He helped get her to the bedroom door and leaned her up against the wall. He quietly opened the door and looked out into the hall.
“Listen…you wait here while I grab the keys and take our bags out to the car.”
“Okay.” As he started to walk out the door, she stopped him with a hand on his forearm. “Tell me again that we are doing the right thing.”
He placed his hands on both sides of her face and looked into her eyes. “We’re doing what’s right for us, baby.” He placed a light kiss on her forehead and flashed her a quick smile. “Now try not to fall down or you’ll wake the whole house.” That got a smile out of her. “Wait here. I’ll be right back for you.”
He found the keys on the coffee table and quietly opened the front door and headed out to load the car.
With that completed, he was about to head back in when he noticed a set of headlights coming up the road. ‘Great. Just what we need…a fucking audience.’ He turned and went in to get Letty.
~*~
Mikaela pulled into her driveway and noticed the front door of the Toretto house slightly ajar. She pulled into the garage and shut off the engine. ‘Great. I am so not ready for that showdown right this fucking second.’
She walked out of the garage and saw the “other” man helping the “other” woman into the car. She looked up at the top floor of the house and touched her mind to Dom’s. ‘Exhaustion. Troubled thoughts. He’s asleep. Well, well, well. Two more thieves in the night.’ And she started across the lawn.
Leon just got Letty situated when he looked up and saw another dark haired beauty headed towards them.
Mikaela stopped at the back of the car on the passenger side. She locked her eyes on Leon’s. Her face wore a serious mask but in a sing-song voice, she said, “well you sure didn’t stay long.”
In the typical tough girl voice, Letty asked, “Who the fuck are you?”
Without taking her eyes off of Leon’s, she moved forward to the open door, and she answered, “Apparently the only one left behind. And drop the fucking attitude girl ‘cuz it isn’t going to help you here.”
She turned her head towards Letty and they entered a staring contest. Letty lost. Mikaela pushed the passenger door closed shutting Letty out of the conversation and turned back towards Leon.
“What do you mean ‘the only one left behind’?”
“Besides him”, she indicated Dom with a quick nod towards the house, “there’s just me.”
“But his sister is…”
“Gone. I just took Mia to the airport about 30 minutes ago.”
“How do you know Mia?”
“Look…let’s just say it’s been a long, informative night and leave it at that. But know this…you have nothing to fear from me.”
He saw only truth in the dark depths of her eyes. He had a feeling that she could be trusted…that she could actually care for the ‘damned’. He nodded his head in the affirmative. “Okay but…”
“Stop! I know you feel like you have to do this…and you’re right. It’s what is best for the both of you. But you know what kind of hell this is going to leave behind.” Again another nod towards the house.
“Yeah. I know”, he said in a sad tone.
“Don’t worry about it now. You have to do what you have to do to make this right for you. But Leon…you will come back soon.” It wasn’t a question.
He knew instantly that she was right. He looked back at the house and sighed. Just when the question entered his mind, she answered it. “I’ll take care of things here. Don’t worry. Just get your shit together so you can get back here.” She smiled, “I’m not exactly the best of company.”
He returned her smile and said, “I think you’ll do just fine ‘cuz neither is he.”
“Get going. Do me a favor though.”
“Yeah…”
She reached into her bag and pulled out a card. She handed it to him and said, “Keep in touch.”
“Mikaela”, he read off the card. “I will and thanks.” He headed around to the driver’s side and just as he started to get in, he looked back at her and said, “Take care of him. Please.” ‘Guilt.’
“I’ll do my best.”
He got in and started it up. She stepped away so he could back out and watched them drive away.
When the car faded from sight, she turned back towards the house. ‘Well fuck! I guess there’s no time like the present.’
