"So this is what he meant..." Vaako said as he stared at the large black mass of menace.

"What do you mean?" Riddick asked as he paced behind the commander, glancing back at Mother Soryn who watched Vaako intently.

"He spoke of things that he saw in the Underverse, power we'd never imagine. I suppose he received his power from these beings."

"They look as if they're waiting," Riddick said as he came to rest at Vaako's shoulder.

Vaako turned to look at him, his arms crossing in front of his chest. "The former Lord Marshal said his goal was to gather an army of all the people in this galaxy, and eventually take them to the Underverse, while destroying those who defied us. We were to dominate this universe as well, and now I see that perhaps we were only to replenish this vast army...Who knows what other universes they have accumulated sources from. If they managed to make it here, it's possible they have access to other galaxies."

"So you think they are going to attack?" Mother Soryn asked as she watched the both of them.

"I would say that that formation is for siege purposes. They are going to attack something," Vaako said with a thoughtful air.

"What do you think we should do?" she asked eyes drawn to the black mass that seemed to radiate danger. Riddick gritted his teeth, and paced, mind sorting out different courses of action.

"I don't know. I do know that they will be expecting us," Vaako replied.

Riddick stopped and stared at Vaako until he looked up into his eyes. "I have a plan, but I want every piece of info about the Lord Marshal's plans. Did he keep journals?"

"Not that I know of. He kept things to himself, only telling us what he felt we needed to know, but I shall have them look into the database and send us everything they find."

"Good," Riddick said as Vaako turned and walked away to contact the main ship. He turned to Mother Soryn who stood and regarded them with interest.

"Though I do not know what you will do, I find I hold onto the hope that you will save us all."

Riddick frowned and rolled his head around, loud cracks accompanying Vaako's low murmur. "Yeah, I hope so too. So about the rest of this prophecy, what's this about a companion and my place?"

"Ah, yes. I do not know who your companion will be, but I've come to think that she will come from one of our elite. One who can help you with your mission, perhaps even become your mate and bear you children. And your place is on the First Seat of Council. It was the position your father held before he was killed. It is one that is open for you to take when you are ready. I will appoint you to the position."

"Hn," he grunted, turning to see Vaako quietly watching them.

"Riddick, the ship is sending down a data stream. If you wish I can go and bring it here for us to study," he said, putting his comm. unit away.

"Yeah. And tell the ship they can go back to the fleet. We'll be spending our time down here."

Vaako inclined his head and turned, body tense as he left the room. Riddick frowned after him, and followed, forgetting about Mother Soryn standing by the view port deep in thought.

"Vaako," Riddick called as he watched the commander be escorted by the same two females from earlier.

Vaako halted and looked over his shoulder, waiting until he caught up.

"I can take him from here," Riddick said, waving a hand at the two warriors. They glared for a moment, but left them alone as they walked through the corridors. Mother Soryn had informed them all that Riddick was one of them and that he was to be treated as one to be part of the council.

"Did you want to stay on the ship instead?" Riddick asked as they made their way outside into the beginnings of dusk, deep russet-golden sunlight splaying across their foot path.

"No, here is fine," Vaako said as he watched a group of children play with a well used ball.

"What's wrong then?" Riddick asked, grabbing his arm to stop them both, pulling him in close against a square building, the wing tips hiding them in shadow from the dying sunlight.

"Nothing," he said, sighing when Riddick tightened his grip. "I just wondered who your companion would be of your people. I want to make sure we can trust whoever it is."

Riddick frowned and loosened his grip, moving his other arm to brace against the wall. "You heard Mother Soryn, huh. Look, you're not really putting any credence into this prophecy shit, are ya?"

"That prophecy shit was right, remember?" Vaako asked tilting his head, amusement dancing in his shadowed eyes.

"Yeah well that was different, the bastard had to go down. I don't need a companion. That's what you're for," he said, watching as Vaako's cheeks flushed lightly.

"That doesn't mean—"

"Yeah it does. I have to much naggin' as it is. No need to add anyone else to the mix." Riddick grinned as Vaako relaxed, eyes rolling in exasperation.

"I wouldn't 'nag' if you wouldn't act the way you do," Vaako retorted as he slid from under Riddick's arm. "Richard."

Riddick stopped, eyebrows shooting up in surprise. "Oh, hell no."

"Rich?" Vaako asked, trying not to laugh at Riddick's scowl. "Rick?"

"Hn."

Vaako grinned and resumed walking, taking his grunt as assent. "Rick it is."

As they passed through a patch of light, Riddick saw beyond the teasing moment to the disquiet still buried in Vaako's hazel globes.

~~~
"Look, Riddick. Here's some information about the Underverse," Vaako said as he stood and moved to sit beside the man, Mother Soryn looking up from her own perusing to listen.
"The Lord Marshal mentions the creatures here, and called them Phantoms. It seems they gave him his power with the purpose of assimilating others to use in their own army. They found a device to allow them to move through the portal from the other side, from a race long gone. He says here that they have laid in wait, gathering strength and power slowly since their banishment," Vaako said, pausing as his eyes flew over the data pad's information. He looked up, eyes locking to Riddick's. "It says they were waiting to strike in revenge. To strike at the Elementals."
"That lying bitch! She knew all along..." Riddick growled standing so suddenly his chair flew backwards. He paced angrily, eyes flashing as his fists clenched, barely aware of Vaako and Mother Soryn watching him. Looking up he glanced at Vaako, expansively waving a hand as he turned to continue pacing.
"What else does it say?"
"That the Phantoms were once an inhabitant of our galaxy, living near a black hole, as it seemed they received their powers from it. When the Elementals discovered them, had in fact been rescued by these creatures, they tried to take their power, starting a war. The Elementals somehow had them banished to another dimension, cutting them off from their natural powers. They slowly began regaining their strength when they found a part of space that provided energy similar to their own. In their rage they began taking others to strengthen their army, planning a strike against the Elementals. They used the Lord Marshal to create an army for them from here, their former dimension, thinking to weaken whatever help the Elementals could find among us. It seems we were just caught in the middle of their fight..." Vaako said, standing to move closer to his path.
"She knew about this, that's why she lied. To cover up their mess. A catastrophic end my ass."
"Should we confront her?"
"...No, not yet. I might kill her if we do," Riddick sighed as he swept a hand over his head. "Let's get some sleep, maybe we can dig up some more tomorrow."
"I'll show you to your room," Mother Soryn said as she gracefully rose from her seat.
They walked down the corridor, passing several wings of the building, until they came to a hall with several doors.
"Here is your room, Riddick," she said opening a door at the end of the hall.
"And here is your room, Vaako." She opened the door opposite of Riddick's gesturing inside. "I bid you good evening."
As she glided back down the hall, Riddick grabbed Vaako's arm, pulling him inside his room.
"No need to waste space," he said pulling Vaako against his body, inhaling his spicy/sweet scent, enticingly mixed in with the smells of Furya, from the nutty wood to the earthy soil scents.
Vaako relaxed against his body, moving his hands up to maneuver them to the bed, pushing him down.
"Wait," he said as he moved to the connected bathing room, retrieving a jar of woodsy scented oil, uncorking the top.
Returning to the bed, he placed the jar down and lit the candles around the room, dimming the center light. Riddick took off his goggles, placing them on the end table as Vaako sat beside him. Quickly tugging upward he pulled his shirt off, placing it aside as Riddick skimmed out of his shirt and pants, boots clunking on the ground. Vaako quickly shed the rest of his clothes as Riddick lay back, hands laced under his head.
Sitting back down, Vaako couldn't help but stare at Riddick's glowing bronze skin, reaching his hand down to run a fingertip over his visible scars. Riddick's skin twitched, muscles rippling as Riddick tensed, trying not to take things into his own hands.
Sensing Riddick's impatience, Vaako smiled, turning to pour oil into his hands.
"Turn over," he said, his voice deep and low in the intimate setting. Riddick flipped over and rested his head on his arms, sighing as warm, callused hands smoothed over his back. The sounds of skin slicking over skin filled the room, only interrupted by groans when tense muscles were worked into pliancy. They remained that way for a time, Vaako steadily working from head to toe, ending with long strokes down his back, before his hands stilled on his hips to tug him over. He began on Riddick's front, and besides a quick kiss to the tip, bypassed his cock as he continued to massage the tension from his body. Riddick was completely mellowed out when Vaako finished, and stretched out beside him.
Rolling to his side Riddick pulled Vaako close, kissing him with pent up passion, one hand gripping his neck to hold him in place to be devoured. Vaako moaned softly as the only thing that remained tense on Riddick's body nudged into his hip.
Vaako sighed as Riddick's large warm hand closed around his cock, using the oil to slick him up. Aligning their cocks and Riddick's large hand closed around them both, jerking them off, swallowing Vaako's gasps as he tightened his grip. Sliding his other hand behind Vaako's back down to the swell of his ass, he dipped a finger in his cleft, rubbing at the puckered opening of his body. Vaako threw a leg over his hip, groaning into Riddick's mouth as he sped his hand on them, incessantly rubbing at his opening.
As Riddick felt Vaako's body tensing in climax he shoved his slick finger to the hilt, finding and rubbing the nub inside. Vaako jerked against him, coming hard as he arched his neck with a guttural cry, cock erupting with his seed. Riddick took advantage, sinking his teeth at the juncture of his shoulder, his own cock spurting against the twitching one in his grip.
Vaako curled in against him, head resting on his shoulder, as his finger slipped free. Riddick grabbed a pillowcase off one of the many on the bed, and wiped them off, pulling Vaako against him as he rested back against the mattress before dropping off to sleep. Vaako shifted to rest his head against his neck, body slowly cooling down as they lay in the silence of the night. Tired from the draining orgasm, he drifted off, one arm possessively over Riddick's stomach.
The candles flickered and danced in their jars, the resultant shadows on the walls watching the two men as they slept.
~~~

Riddick awoke to a gentle knock against his door, and carefully slid from under Vaako to throw his pants on. Mother Soryn stood with a pile of clothes and a tray of food in her arms.

"I thought you might want some fresh clothes, so I thought these would do, as they were your fathers. And do you know where Vaako is? I knocked but he did not answer," she said as Riddick immediately took the load from her, carefully placing the items on the table, briefly running a hand over the clothes once worn by his father.

"He's with me," he said watching her face as he imparted that piece of knowledge to her. He was surprised when she simply turned and picked up his tray and bought it to him.

"I see. I'll just leave these with you then. I shall see you in the study, as I will continue to look among the data sources."

"Fine. See ya there," he said watching as she gracefully turned away and left back the way she came.

Turning back to the room he placed the second tray on the table and blew out the candles still burning, allowing just the light from outside shining behind the curtains to brighten the room. He glanced at the shower, then the bed and decided he wanted company.

"Vaako," he said as he ran a hand over the man's hip, his other hand gripping his shoulder and shaking gently. "Wake up. We need to get started."

Vaako groaned and rolled over, staring up at him with narrowed eyes, not quite awake yet.

"Come on, we'll hit the shower than eat. Mother Soryn bought us clothes and food."

Vaako rubbed at his eyes, which Riddick couldn't help but admit was kinda cute, and stretched his body, moving in a way that wasn't so 'cute.'

They made liberal use of the shower, the cascade of water causing steam to rise up and obscure their bodies. After washing they dressed in the Furyan garb and ate, quickly planning their course of action. Deciding on gathering more information before they confront Aereon, they went to meet Mother Soryn, finding her deep into the data pads at the large table they were using.

"Anything new?" Riddick asked as he settled down and picked up the next pad he hadn't gone through.

"I have discovered more reference to the portal. He describes the key as a large circular etched ring with two pieces crossed in the center. Here's the image he transcribed to the entry," she said, rising to grab a book from a shelf against the wall placing it open in front of them.

"And here is the key we were entrusted with."

"They're the same," Vaako said as he looked between the book and data image.

"Yes. I thought that if the Abyssinians found another race and left them a key as well, perhaps when the Phantoms assimilated that race into their army, they came into possession of the key. That would explain why they have access. I only know that it must be destroyed..."

"I agree. The key must be destroyed, and the army immobilized. But the how is the problem," Riddick said as he stared at the images of the keys.

"Perhaps the Elemental knows a way," Vaako said thoughtfully.

"It's time to find out. We'll call the ship to come pick us up, and see what she has to say. We'll be back when we finish up there. If there's anything you need, contact us and I'll have it sent," Riddick said handing her his comm. unit. She smiled and inclined her head.

"Thank you Riddick."

Riddick turned to leave, glancing over his shoulder at Vaako when she suddenly spoke up. "I would like to speak with you if I may, Vaako."

Vaako glanced back at Riddick and raised an eyebrow before nodding. "Of course. I'll catch up with you Riddick."

"I'll wait topside," Riddick said, an eyebrow raising as he left.

Vaako waited a moment before taking a seat across from the older Furyan woman. "What did you wish to speak to me about?"

She took a breath, and clasped her hands together, tilting her head to the side. "You know of the prophecy concerning Riddick, do you not?"

"Yes, he told me of it."

"Well I was unaware if you knew the scope of his place in our society. Riddick will become the head of council, taking my place in his rightful position. And, as the prophecy mentioned, 'with a companion found of his own race.'"

"Yes, I remember that part," Vaako said with a frown.

"As leader, he will be looked up to, he will be sought after by our people. And his companion must reflect his Furyan strength...And perhaps bear his children."

Vaako stiffened in his chair, back straightening at her words. "And what does this have to do with me?"

"He shares his bed with you, whether from the need to be with someone after his ordeal, or even by an attraction to you, I do not know. Though you are very strong, perhaps even a match for him, you cannot bear his heirs, more importantly you are not Furyan. I ask if, for the sake of my people, for you to let him go."

Vaako stood and turned away from her entreating expression, throat tightening at the thought of what she wanted. "You ask me to turn away from him, even in this time of need?"

"You must understand, he must accept a Furyan by his side, not just for the morale of my people. It is fated, Vaako. I know it is much to take, for I can see how you care for him in your eyes. But are you really what's best for him?"

~~~
Riddick was leaning against the front of the building when Vaako came out of the door.
"You ready?" he asked as Vaako stopped to look at him, eyes taking in the ease he wore the loose pants with heavy boots and black armored top, a black cloak with silver embroidery of a ferocious beast roaring in primal aggression. It fit Riddick down to his personality.
"Yes."
"What did she want?" he asked as they walked through the village-city.
"Nothing...important. We'll discuss it later," he said as Riddick threw him a skeptical look. "We have more important things to think about at the moment."
Riddick studied him for a minute, and then nodded. "Yeah, we'll talk about it later. I need you to concentrate on keeping me from going for Aereon's throat," Riddick said throwing him a feral grin.
Vaako smirked and nodded before his head went down, eyes not really seeing the ground as he thought. 'How can I let him go?'
