Rivers Run Deep

Chapter 9

The little female was no match for the four males. They must have thought she would be good sport or something, they followed her into the town so quickly, they must have torn up quite a stretch of road to get there just behind her. She had quite the set of lungs on her despite the helmet on her head. And she’d landed a good blow to the face of one of the males as he restrained her from attacking the male she’d stopped to see in the first place. Then they threw her to the ground and one of them sat on her, now that made him laugh, he was surprised no one heard him. She didn’t stop fighting though, he had to admire her for that.

He watched as they tied her up and guided her down the street. They stopped at one of the food stations, leaving the vehicle outside, and pushing her through the door. The pair of males inside, the fat one and the old man, were surprised to see her trussed up like she was, but they didn’t seem too upset. One of the men must have known the four that entered.

The building was far too public. He wouldn’t risk a confrontation like the last one. He would not be responsible for the destruction of another structure. Not that the first really bothered him, it was just the dead female and her unborn young. He clenched his fists again. Why did the death of the female bother him so much? Yes it was a tragedy, yes he was upset over Uni, but the two were totally different to each other. The death of pregnant prey, not at his hands, should not bother him like this!!! Why did it though?

He watched the eating place, well into the darkening hours, then the seven occupants moved to a building across the street. This was the exercise building. He commended the oomans to at least have a place where they could train their young. Though the combat done here was very strange, and way too tame.

“Oh my god!” Ralph put the coffee pot down, as four men came in the door, two of them struggling with a trussed up El. “What the hell are you doing!!? Let her go this minute.”

“One moment Mr. Ralph,” said one of the men, and the five turned to Mr. Com. “Greetings Sensei, long time no see.” And the four men bowed.

Mr. Com came up and took El from their grip, sending her to Ralph, who helped to untie the belt around her wrists. One of the guys quickly grabbed her as she made a break for the door. “You might want to hold onto her sir, we just kept her from assaulting the sheriff.”

“El? What is going on?” Ralph demanded.

El took the file back from one of the men, leaving a nice cut on his hand from the staples from the protruding papers. “It was arson Ralph. Some one torched my house! The fucking Sheriff wont do a damn thing! He’s even accused Michel of being a drug dealer!!”

“Calm down, let me see this…” he looked over the papers in the file.

“You boys are early, I was expecting you tomorrow,” Mr. Com greeted, returning the gently bow from his former students.

“Well when Kevin got the call, he suggested that we come a day early. Spend some time with you, catch up. We brought pictures. Championships we’ve won, both personally, and our do jos. They’re in the trunk.”

Mr. Com raised his hand to still the excited young man. “Tomorrow. It is dinner time, and I never discuss competitions over diner, just good friends. Come…” he held out his arms and the four men gratefully stepped up and engulfed the tiny man in a hug. “Come,” he muffled as they slowly let him go. “Sit, have food. I pay.”

“OH NO!” Allen piped up. “You paid the last time. This time, we pay.”

“If you insist.” The four sat down at the counter, the old man in the middle. Ralph insisted that El remove her leather outfit and hang it up, then sit down for diner herself, and he wasn’t taking no for an answer. She did as she was told, as Ralph went to the kitchen still reading the information in the file, and looking over the pictures that were there.

“So, Sensei, what was this big emergency that you asked us to come up here for?” asked Allen. Mr.Com just looked over at El, as she anxiously waited for Ralph to give her back the file. The men knew what the emergency was.

“Wait, are you teaching her?” Kevin asked. Mr. Com nodded. “Should’ve known. Only Sensei could teach a girl to head but like that!” They all laughed. “So what gives with her Sensei?”

Mr. Com waved his hand to the floor. “Eat now, talk later.”

Ralph handed El some plates and bowls, he ladled out the soup of the day, and put some rolls on the plates. She took them, two at a time, out to the counter and set the first in front of her Sensei, and the man to the far left. She then went back and brought the rest on a tray, and set them in front of the other men. She then poured cups of coffee, looking into the kitchen so often that she over flowed three out of the five, after cleaning the mess, and putting cream and sugar on each saucer, she handed them out.

Ralph then immerged from the kitchen with the file, and a tray with two bowls of soup and rolls. She grabbed a juice for Ralph and a diet soda for herself from the fridge, and sat down heavily on the stool at the end of the counter. “What’s it say Raolph?” asked Allen, sipping the soup from his spoon.

“Well, the investigators determined the source of the fire was caused at several flash points around the main floor. No evidence of accelerants, but then again it may have all been burned away. All indications show that accelerants were a contributing factor, nothing could be that hot without it.”

“So what fire is this?” asked Tommy, sipping his coffee. El just up and left, thundering up the stairs. “I say something wrong?”

“No,” Ralph replied. “The fire was at her house. It killed her entire family.”

“Oh shit.” Tommy received a slap across his face from Mr. Com.

“Language!”

“Sorry Sensei. So what’s her problem? I know it would be hard, but…”

“She’s acting like she wants to kill someone?” Kevin commented.

“That is why I have called you here,” Mr. Com stated. “I am training her, showing her an avenue that she may let her rage out, allow herself to grieve. But my current students are not strong enough to handle her attacks.”

“So you want us to be her punching bags?”

“Train her! She needs fluidity. She is excellent with the bow staff, but her moves are jerky and sudden. She must obtain fluidity. Only through a calm heart will she attain that.”

“She’s also been taking gymnastics, till tonight I’m sure. They’ve got some pretty abrupt moves too. I watched her once. She’s good. She tumbles really fast, and gets up in a second, or less. But she is very stiff in her choreography. I think that’s where she’s got the stiff moves for the training with Mr. Com.” He looked as El returned to the counter, in her exercise suite and jogging pants.

“Where’s the key to the gym?” she asked of Ralph.

“I have it put away, and I’m not going to give it to you till you eat. You’ll then rest for a while, then go train with these nice boys.”

“THEY SAT ON ME!!”

“To keep you out of jail!”

“He would have deserved it!”

“I don’t doubt that, but still, when he’s in uniform, you don’t touch him.”

“Where’s the key?”

“Not now El. Eat your soup.”

It was pure torture. Ashley, the administrator of the facility, left a spare key with Ralph, just in case she didn’t show up in time to open the doors for Coach Bastion, anything to keep him from chewing her out. When El found out, she’d often take the key late at night, when she couldn’t sleep, and practice her routine. Since her training with Mr. Com, she’d been incorporating some of her bow staff moves, with her routine. Only now, she doubted she’d ever perform in front of the judges. Now when she wanted to work out the tension she built up from her failed confrontation with the Sheriff, she couldn’t get the key.

It was hours before the group finally broke from diner, their stomachs well settled, they decided that they would work out a bit, to wind down from the long drive. Kevin and Allen also wanted to show off their winning moves from their last championship. What show offs.
Ralph locked the restaurant and guided them across the street, using Kevin’s cell phone to make sure Ashley was agreeable to them using the facility late at night. There was no problem.
