Achilles, greatest of the Greek warriors, fell into his seeming favourite pastime of glaring at King Agamemnon. "You can very well fight your own wars. I will not do this."
Turning to leave the war room, Achilles srugged the hand of his friend from his shoulder when Odesseus tried to stop him. The King of Ithica turned to face the controlled rage and indignancy of King Agamemnon.
"Find him," Agamemnon ordered; "and make him see my way. It is the life of your son, if you fail."
Odesseus sighed, hearing the familiar threat. "Yes, my Lord."
Wandering the halls of Agamemnon's palace, Odesseus found Achilles staring out over training fields where newly recruited soldiers were being taught. Arms crossed over his chest, the great warrior didn't bother to turn at the sound of Odesseus' approach. "I will not go. Not this way."
"My friend, you could complete this task easily."
"I will not skulk in shadows like a thief, Odesseus."
Odesseus smiled and placed a finger on his chin, mocking a thoughtful look. "I do not seem to recall the word 'skulk' used at any time."
Achilles turned then, giving Odesseus a levelled look. "I suppose you thought this plan through?"
"I created it."
"Hm."
Odesseus sighed and leaned against the low barrier. A small moment of silence passed between the two and Achilles sighed. "Wh you you serve him Odesseus? You are a king in your own right."
"Even a king needs to bow to someone. And Agamemnon happens to onsionsiderably more violent than myself."
Odesseus gave Achilles a curious look, "And what of you? You fight for him."
"You know why I fight."
"Ah yes. Immortality."
A slight pause from Odesseus before the King of Ithica continued. Achilles could swear that he could sometimes hear the wheels of his friend's clever mind turning.
"Troy's walls have never been breached. Just think of the praise the first Greek enemy to pass through them would recieve. In Troy and without."
Achilles gave a wry look, "To face the walls of Troy and break through in battle is one thing. To sneak through is another."
"You are not sneaking... Really. Priam sent a small troop out, we happened upon them, and the captain pleaded for his life. The armor of one of the dead would fit you almost perfectly."
"So you propose that I dress as... A what? Guard, common soldier?"
"Guard. Preferably. The captain has already promised to secure a spy in the palace. Agamemnon simply wants that spy to be you."
"Only I would not be spying, exactly."
"Find Helen, bring her out, return her to Menelaus."
"Avoid the war?" Achilles raised a skeptical eyebrow. "That was your plan, was it not?"
Odesseus smiled, "I am not like you, Achilles. I could do without the wars. Live a nice life with my beautiful Penelope..."
"And not be remembered."
"Of course I would be remembered! I would be remembered as the man that convinced Achilles the Great Warrior to avoid a war!" Odesseus laughed.
Achilles sighed, "Explain the plan, and I'll give you my answer tomorrow."
Odesseus grinned, "The captain and a small number of his troop have agreed to get you inside the walls of Troy. You simply need to take a place as a palace guard, find Helen, and bring her to the beach within a month of your landing on the beaches. She is returned to Menelaus and you remain to open the gates for Agamemnon when the Greek army comes soon after."
"Simple enough."
"Your answer?"
"Tomorrow."

Fidgetting in the new armor, Achilles glared at Odesseus, the latter trying hard to keep from grinning.
"It cannot be so bad."
"It is not my armor."
"Well, obviously. That would be the point now."
"Odesseus..."
"Alright," Odesseus smiled. "If it helps at all, you do look quite the Trojan."
"It does not help. I feel like a fool. The mighty Achilles, reduced to a spy."
"I thought we discd thd this."
"We did."
Odesseus sighed in exasperation, "Just get ready. You know how to properly place the armor now. It will take, a month, perhaps a little more or less depending upon the wind, to reach Troy. In three months you will need to have Helen at the beach."
"She will be there."
"Good."
