Chapter 1
“I know something is happening with the Avicks alien colony. Our thermal imaging has detected a new batch of eggs that contain embryos instead of the face huggers.”
The twelve-member council all began talking at once, about what should happen to stop the hatching. Dr. Harold Price held up his hand for silence and received it. He was one of the four doctors that had helped create the robotic men that helped turn the war with the Xenomorphs. He considered himself the smartest man in the worlds.
The doctor smiled at his worried council members. “It is obvious that she has decided on a new way to battle us. These new children do not require our participation to develop; but I am very sure they will be used to exterminate us.”
The others at the table of course agreed with the doctor. Dr Leonard Wills nodded his head in agreement. He was Harold’s right hand man. Many called him the butcher. The name came about because of the violent death of his wife fifteen years ago. His wife Betty was planning on leaving with their 8 years old daughter Leanna and returning to earth.
Leonard being the only black man on Harold’s team knew that this groundbreaking opportunity would never happen again. They argued and Leonard claimed that she went out for a walk to calm down but never returned. Betty’s closest friends knew she was afraid of walking outside during the dark and believed Leonard and Harold had something to do with her disappearance. They found Betty’s body sliced into pieces and beheaded. Leonard explained to his daughter that one of the Avicks clan aliens killed her mother.
Harold looked around the table at the panel. “Now I have proposed that we get one of those eggs and examine it.”
Sergeant Jason Price frowned at his father as he spoke.” Why, what could you possibly want by having one of those things inside the city?”
Harold faced his strongest doubter in every meeting, his son. “We need to study our enemy.”
“No we need to destroy our enemy not study it.”
The council began to grumble some agreeing with Jason and others with Harold. Dr. Reese Nabac whispered something to Leonard that made him look at Jason. Nabac known as the punisher had developed ways to use poison and other drugs in torture techniques that was far beyond the army. Most wondered what scientific contribution he made to Harold’s team.
Captain Ted Frost turned to his Sergeant and frowned. “We defeat our enemy if we know its weakness.”
Jason looked incredulous. “You shouldn’t bring it inside. We don’t know if it’s ready to hatch or not.”
The Captain continued to frown at him. “We are ready for anything Jason.”
“The lab is under heavy security Sergeant. We can handle this observation. Do you doubt your father?”
Jason turned his attention to the only woman on Harold’s team, Dr Jean Tremen. Her abilities were unknown, but most assumed she was Harold’s whore.
Jason shot her an angry look. “No I do not doubt my father.”
Harold smiled. “Good, because we have already began the extraction and in about twenty minutes we will have our egg.”
Jason looked at the Captain. “Did you know of this?”
“Of course I did. Now I want the mechanical army hot and ready incase these creatures decide to attack us. I also want you to stand with them.” The Captain got up from the table and followed the other members from the room.
Harold smiled at his son still seated. “Why are you always against me my son?”
Jason did not answer he was thinking of a way to get Leanna off the planet.
“All will be well Jason you must know this as truth.”
Jason looked up at his father. He was older then the last time he had actually looked at him five years ago. His blue eyes were still bright, but he was heavier and had developed a serious superiority complex.
Harold took in his son’s angry expression with a smile on his face. Jason was still the handsome, blond haired, blue-eyed hero he had wanted him to become. The fact that they did not get along never bothered Harold. His wife Karen poisoned Jason’s mind.
“You want to know what I know as truth, when that thing gets out I know everyone will die Harold. I just pray that you and your entire team are part of that blood bath.”
Jason got up from the table and walked from the room passing Dr Jean on his way out.
Harold felt Jean’s hand on his shoulder. “They are returning with the egg we must prepare.”
Jason walked through the compound heading for the garden. It was where he knew Leanna would be. He saw the long dark hair lying on the tabletop as she wrote down the growth of the newest flower in her garden. Leanna felt him standing there staring at her. She looked up at see his handsome face contorted in thought and anger.
“What are they doing?”
“Our worse fears are coming true Leanna.”
She set down the pen and turned her body towards Jason. “How can they bring one of those creatures into the city, that’s suicide?”
Jason shook his head and walked past her. “My father thinks he can learn from them. All he really wants is to use it for his own purpose. He thinks they are exceptional assassins.”
Leanna closed her eyes. “They already have it don’t they?”
“Yes it’s in the lab.”
Leanna pulled the tie from her hair and ran her hands through it. “Jason we have to destroy it before it hatches. You have clearance to get inside the lab.”
“Not anymore, I’ve been removed from the medical registry by my father.”
Jason walked towards her. The Metallic man in the corner of the garden moved towards them with aggression in every step. Jason was its target.Leanna stepped in its path.
“Leave him alone.” The robot stopped but remained where it stood.
“Go back to the corner.”
The robot walked away. Leanna turned to face Jason. “Jason you can’t do that.”
He stared at her. “I forget sometimes. I just want to touch you once, just once.”
Leanna shook her head. “Jason”
She had the metallic beast with her since the age of thirteen. Leonard had programmed it to attack anyone threatening to touch his most prized possession. No one else had such security not even Harold. It all seemed suspicious to Jason and Leanna.
“There is a way to disable it.”
Leanna sighed. “It can not be disabled Jason. I’ve tried everything.”
Jason stared down into her brown eyes with longing. He wanted to touch her skin, taste her lips, and hold her tight against his body. He just wanted her.
“You need to leave here.”
“I can’t it wont let me anywhere near the landing grid.”
“Why are you being guarded what does he have in mind for you?”
“I don’t know, but I know it is not because he loves me.” Jason raised his hand to touch her smooth caramel colored cheek. Leanna moved back. Jason instead ran his hand through his hair. The metallic man watched carefully.
Jason met Leanna’s eyes. “Stay with your protection Leanna because once this thing gets out, it will be the only thing strong enough to save you.”
Two robotic men carried the 1500-pound egg into the cell made especially for it. Harold and Jean stood before the cage as the egg was set on the dirt floor. The robots walked from the cell and the door slid closed. The egg was breathing and the occupant inside began moving around.
“By the brainwaves and heart beat it could be born in twenty minutes.” Jean said from the computer console.
Harold smiled. “This is extraordinary.”
The egg began to split and purple liquid ran from the tear. Jean called the other two doctors into the room to witness the birth. The two robots in the room backed away from the cell as blood from the creature splattered the glass. A huge clawed talon came from the large egg. The doctors and their assistants stood silently and watched the speared black tail rip through the egg and as the rest of the creature broke through a strange gas filled the cell.
Turn on the fans.” Reese said to one of the assistants.
The gas filtered out of the cell once the fans began turning. The creature was not with the remains of the egg. The group moved closer looking around the cell. The creature suddenly fell from the ceiling and stood before them in the cell.
It stood nine feet tall and was thicker than the normal size of Avicks colony members. It was all black except for the red mark on its chest. It roared at them and most moved back in fear.
Harold chuckled. “He will be the greatest of experiments.”
Reese turned to one of the assistants. “Put him down and let’s begin the examination.”
The cell began to fill with a gas to make the creature sleepy. Harold and the others began to prepare for the examination.
“We should name our child.” Jean said to Harold.
Harold smiled at her. “Let’s name him Redd.”
Leonard nodded. Reese raised an eyebrow at the amount of gas it was taking to put the creature down. "Isn’t that the same gas you used on the colony?”
“Yes it seems he requires more.”
Redd fought the gas but slowly began to tire and slumped to the floor.
Harold smiled at his team. “Alright we will have 45 minutes let’s be quick and complete.”
The two robotic men hesitated when the doors opened. Redd was not moving but they sensed he was not asleep.
“Bring him to the table.” Reese ordered the robotic men.
The two robots walked into the cell and picked up the heavy alien playing possum. They carried him out of the cell and onto the table. They moved back quickly as the doctors moved towards the table.
“Shall we begin?”
