~ This was originally going to be a Matt+McClane Challenge! But I changed it do to a demanding review, so now I'm writing it all (it's going to be a few chapters long). I hope you like it!

Summary: Matt likes McClane. A lot. How will he make his feelings known? ~

~*~*~*~

Jhon McClane stared straight ahead, driving, thinking about Matt’s comment for a moment. Then he sighed quietly and said, “You know what you get for being a hero? Nothing. You get shot at. A little pat on the back, ‘blah blah blah, attaboy’. …You get divorced. Your wife can't remember your last name. Kids don't wanna talk to you. Get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. …Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy.”

Matt, who had been looking at McClane’s averted eyes while he was speaking, turned his calm gaze away at the end of that not-so-encouraging statement. He had suspected that McClane, even as the strong, heroic, powerful, and (as Matt shamelessly admitted to himself) ruggedly sexy man he was, must have problems just like everyone else… But Matt didn’t expect that the macho detective would ever share his worries with a geeky kid like him. McClane had sounded almost… emotional. Matt had seen something in his eyes… a loneliness that hurt him to see in such a great man. And in his mind, he wished he could ease the detective’s pain, just a little. Matt wished he had the courage to just lean over and hug McClane right then. But he didn’t, of course. Instead, he occupied his mind with the warmth of being deeply honored that McClane had opened up to him, even if just for a second. And he realized that he had been acting like an idiot through all this, while McClane really had been the hero, and saved the clueless geek’s life at least ten times.

After a few long minutes of silence, in which Matt was wrestling with himself inside, he spoke. “Um… uh, McClane? Could you… maybe stop for a second?”

The detective looked over at Matt, his expression instantly turned into that classic, smug, ‘Yeah, right’ look. Matt felt like an even bigger idiot now.

“I… just wanted to… stop for a second, I, uh, have to go to the bathroom. Come on, man, really, it’ll just take a second… Just… pull over, uh, anywhere,” he stuttered, and then added hastily, “Uh, please.”

McClane rolled his eyes and assumed a bored stance as he started to pull the car over. Matt could tell that the detective was thinking, 'that geeky kid is such a nuisance', and 'why did I have to get I stuck with taking care of him?' Matt felt rather discouraged, but he was determined to get on the detective’s good side, and stay there, if he could.

As the car came to a stop, Matt opened his door and muttered a thanks to McClane before jogging off behind some large bushes by the road. When he got there, he breathed a heavy sigh of relief and sat down in the grass, running a hand through his hair nervously. He didn’t really need to go to the bathroom. He just had to get out of that car for a second, and sort through his thoughts. He closed his eyes and took some deep breaths, and noticed that his heart had been pounding. He was shaking a little, too. But it wasn’t from being scared or having adrenaline like he’d experienced almost non-stop while being shot at in the city. He was jittery and stressed… because he was around McClane.

Matt had established that he was gay a few years ago. Once, one of his geeky friends had loaded a joke virus onto his computer that downloaded massive amounts of gay porn onto his harddrive’s subsystems. As was the purpose of the joke, Matt had been forced to get into the encrypted files and clear them out, and in doing so he had to look at all of the images. At first, he was just annoyed to have to get all that gross gay junk off his computer, but then as he kept looking at it, some of the more hardcore stuff had silently flipped a switch in his brain. The lights had gone on in Matt’s mind, and he was never one to lie to himself about feelings, or battle what felt right. He had accepted that he was gay, and just kept it to himself. Just like he secretly kept the rest of that porn on his harddrive.

Matt knew that he was definitely attracted to McClane. He could sure feel it, and his entire body was reacting to just being near the man… it wasn’t just regular arousal, it was… something more. But what could Matt do? His hopes and desires seemed unattainable if he could hardly talk to McClane, let alone make a move on him. And even if he did manage to make his feelings known somehow, how would the detective react? Matt couldn’t bear the thought of the harsh rejection that he knew he would get from McClane if he didn’t say or do just the right things. Worst case scenario: McClane would yell at him, possibly hit him, and throw him out of the car in the middle of nowhere. Best case scenario: … Matt didn’t have any idea. He just needed something, some answer to his wishes, a simple 'yes' or 'no', so he would know if what he felt was just a boyish fantasy, or something more significant. Matt could only hope. …But how to approach this?

Thank you for the reviews, guys! I will definitely continue this story. There will be hot stuff in later chapters, don't worry-- it's rated ++ for a reason, you know.

Thanks for reading!
